 Las dos formas significan “hay”. There is se usa con nombres en singular y con
nombres incontables y there are se usa con nombres en plural.
There is a cat on the tree! ¡Hay un gato en el árbol!
There is some water in the bottle. Hay agua en la botella.
There are some books on the desk. Hay libros en la mesa.
