Persuasive Essay On Violence
Violence is a controversial topic and has generated much debate. Many people are of the opinion that violence is never acceptable and should never
be tolerated, but this is not true. Violence is not a moral thing and can result in terror, pain, and chaos. Therefore, it makes sense that violence should
always, if possible, be avoided. However, violence is justified if it is in self–defense or in the defense of others. Violence is never warranted if used for
one's own gain, to exact revenge, or to exert power, but in the defense of human life, it is sometimes necessary.
Some may disagree and argue that it doesn't matter the situation, violence is never necessary, but there is an abundance of evidence that proves
this to be false. Without the brave soldiers of the late 1770s battling against the tyranny of the King of England, The United States could still be
under British rule. Without brave people fighting for justice and peace in World War II, this world would very likely be a much darker place.
Violence in the form of defense of other human beings is necessary and noble. After the horrific terrorist attack on September 11, 2001, former
President George W. Bush said in his address to the nation, "America has stood down enemies before, and we will do so this time. We go forward to
defend freedom and all that is good and just in our world". (Bush 64) The first situation in which violence is acceptable, and even sometimes
necessary, is in self–defense. When one is being

Essay about Justification Of Violence
Justification of Violence
Violence and the justification of it has been an issue for as long as the world has been in existence. There are many conflicting opinions on the
subject, many in favor and many opposing the idea. I am personally split on the issue; I believe that in some cases, violence can be justified; however,
I also believe that in others, it cannot be.
In my opinion, the only instance in which violence can be justified is self–defense. I believe that if an innocent person is attacked for some reason and
their life is put in danger, they have the right to fight back to save themselves. How can a person let themselves be attacked and do nothing to help
themselves survive? It's almost unreasonable to believe that. There are...show more content...
But, I believe that when you hit a child when they do something wrong, they don't repeat the action because they're afraid of the consequences, rather
than understanding why they shouldn't do it again. It gives the wrong impression on the child and teaches them that violence is okay if you're trying to
teach someone a lesson, so they carry this over into their lives when they get older, and the chain of violence is never broken.
War, in general, I believe, is ineffective. I think that it totally uses the wrong reasons for countries to agree to compromise. It's amazing that before war,
countries are totally against one another, yet after blowing away half of each other's population, they're willing to talk. It makes you think.
I think that if countries would talk out their problems in a more peaceful manner, they would much easier come up with plans that would include
both of their needs and desires. I think the world uses war in the wrong way; they're in wars to show their own power and prove themselves to the
world. War is not only bad because of those reasons. It is also negative because innocent men and women from the involved countries are killed. Even
if they couldn't care less about what was going on, they are drafted to fight for their country. And many of them die, which is really depressing, because
they didn't

Violence And Violence In Literature
Authors use violence to portray many different things while they write books. Violence adds shock to readers which makes them want to
continue reading the book that they are reading. This shock makes the authors have more options to write about and gives them a lot of flexibility,
which will help make their writing even better than it already is. To go along with shock, violence can also add emotion to the readers which
makes them understand characters even more. Readers may feel sympathy for a character if a someone close to them dies in a violent way. Many
authors rely on violence for their success as a writer. In the book How to Read Literature Like a Professor , the author, Thomas Foster reflects on
how without the use of violence many writers would be nowhere today. "Violence is everywhere in literature. We'd lose most of Shakespeare
without it ...Twain... Fitzgerald...Hemingway...and on and on" (Foster 103). Without the presence of violence, several authors would have no career
in being an author. Authors also use violence to make novels be more realistic. Everyone goes through violence in their life and they have some sort
of downfall. Since authors use it in their books, it makes the readers feel like the book is more sensible while they read. Violence is used by an
author in literature because it adds the element of shock which make readers want to keep on reading, and it adds emotion to the readers so they can
feel for the characters. The first component of why

Boink! Boom! Crack! The sounds of the fight scene rage on. Many have fallen in this particularly bloody battle. The good guys have taken their losses
but struggle on to what is seemingly a victory. Their aggression is fierce and helps them. Fires consume the background; men and women lie on the
ground in pain. Even if it weren't for the bombs, missiles, bullets, etc. that are flying around, hand–to–hand combat would have got the better of them. It
was a classic battle scene when looking back at it, a true testament of blood, hell, and gore. This may sound like a heroic made–for–TV movie shown

45–52). To television Programmers, violence is depicted as a normal, justified response to conflict and threat. They will encourage identification with
the aggressor; domination and submission, to them, are often equated with pleasure and worth. Yet numerous researchers have put much time into
discovering why children are so attached by the television and the action that takes place within it. They prove that it is definitely a major source of
violent behavior in children. Their research proves time and time again that aggression and television viewing do go hand in hand. The truth about
television violence and children has been shown. Many people and critics try to ignore it and hope that it will go away. Others do not even seem to
care and try to attack these ideas. However, the facts are undeniable and all the results point to one conclusion: Television violence causes children to
be violent and the effects can be life–long. The effects of the television are first visible even at the most basic level of life, children and adolescents.
The modern–day extent of viewing by humans, especially Americans, is astronomical. Children begin to watch television at very early ages, often
when they are newborns. At this time they are obviously not able to follow along or be influenced by it, but they are subjected to it nevertheless. This
early start will lead most childhood viewers

Essay on Violence
Violence is one of the most problematic issues society faces today, and it has been increasing day after day, in the streets of our cities. The most
common description of what violence really is can be given as negativity towards something or someone either through physical or verbal actions,
which often causes the victim to suffer pain. The different types of violence that exist in our multi–cultural society are out–numbered, but the most
evident ones are domestic, gang, sexual, and racial violence. While violence can definitely be reduced, it will never be eliminated due to the nature of
humans.
Domestic violence, also known as spousal abuse, occurs when a person in an intimate relationship or marriage tries to dominate and control...show more

On October 24 2000, a news article headline read, "Gang wars 6 Dead". This event had taken place in Etobicoke, and the news article contained
sentences like "Six victims in six months" and "calculated executions". It also contained terms like "Bloods" and "Crips". These terms and sentences
have officially crossed the border and have become all too familiar in Canadian cities. In order to cut back this outlaw behaviour, we need to educate
our youth about the ill effects of gangs, drugs, guns, and should try to persuade them to instead make friends with those who accept you for who you
are and use all their time in doing something positive and proactive. As a result of reducing and preventing gang violence, many cities have created
special task forces and given schools their own police officers.
Sexual violence is another form of violence that has plagued our cities. This crime involves violence that is specifically sexual in nature, to which the
victim does not give consent. According to 2005 statistics, 51% of all Canadian women have experienced at least one incident of sexual violence. 6
out of 10 victims who reported being sexually violated were under 17. These numbers are alarming and scary. It is extremely important to get rid of
such sinister crimes in our communities because it robs the victims of their innocence, self–esteem, confidence, and even trust in our society. The

Violence Begets Violence
Right now at this very moment you can turn your TV on and watch just about anything that you want to, this also means so can your children. Do you
know how much violence is being broadcasted through the media just today? Do you understand how this is affecting your child? Do you know that
from birth to age 25 their brain is growing, and there are these neurons, "mirror neurons" that teach us to imitate what we see? What if it was your
child who went to school with a gun? What if it was your child who was shot by a class mate? I believe that we as a country should force the media
to limit the amount of violence that is being viewed by the public. Not just for ourselves but also for our children. As a member of the United States

Joanne H Steward and Franco Follina (2006) say that literature review has discussed evidence on the impact of exposure to violence on aggressive
and inappropriate behavior. The review has provided mainly evidence that exposure to media violence affects a person's behavior negatively and has
been noted to have a detrimental effect on pro–social behavior, both in the long and short term. So not only are we is the media contributing to
violence in children, but it can also affect them in adulthood. This shows that violence is the affecting factor. They why are we not willing to change?
Why has the system stayed the same for so very long? If violence is making our society change for the worst then why can we not change for the better?
Science says that our brain is growing and learning new things from birth to 25 years of age. During the time I have spent researching this topic I have
learned a catch phrase from scientists around the world. Money see Monkey do. And in V.S. Ramachandrans article Mirror Neurons and the Brain in a

There are many reasons why people resolve things using violence. For instance, when someone is being disrespectful or other personal problems that
affected that person somehow. Nowadays you can't even leave your house feeling safe since violence is very common now. Since violence is very
common now, no one ever feels protected. If you see a suspicious person near you, you will automatically think that they are going to try and do

Violence And The Power Of Words
"Through violence you may 'solve' one problem, but you sow the seeds for another." Dalai Lama. If there wasn't the power of the pen, then what
would be left? Even though some people may argue that the sword is more powerful than the pen, the pen is more powerful.
What would the world be like if we always fixed our problems using the force of violence? The sword and the pen both have huge impacts on our
lives, but which makes a greater impact? Although violence and the power of words seem like two different things, they both impact us equally.
Without the power of words, without freedom of speech, what's left? Words will get us way further in life than violence.Education for example.
Education gets us further in life. It gives us hope for a better life and a better future. Words are a way to express how you're feeling and your

1. The internet says that violence means the behavior involving physical force intended to hurt, damage, or kill someone or something. Violence is
more than that. To me violence means to bring harm or exert negativity to someone whether it's verbally, physically, emotionally, sexually,
psychologically, spiritually, culturally, and financially or neglect.Violence comes in different forms and to just define it as being a physical thing is
presenting or forming a problem in our society today. We tend to make something like this as just one thing when violence can be exerted in
different ways. A person can be violent towards someone by just cursing at them or by verbally insulting them. Violence comes any different
forms. You don't have to physically hit someone to be violent. If people would think of violence as being more than just physical violence would
decrease because we as people would be aware of violence and try to prevent from acting out violent acts. There are different things or factors that
label something as being a sort of violent act. I would consider something as being violent due to the content that is being used by users. It wouldn't
matter who it is being presented towards because it doesn't matter. Violence is Violence. I would say that it is very hard to label something as being
violent because violence acts occur frequently more times than usually around friends when playing. For an example when two females or males are
talking to one another and they

Three Levels Of Violence Essay
The three degrees of violence I chose are physical violence, verbal violence, and prejudice. All of the types of violence I chose can be very hurtful,
whether it hurts someone physically or emotionally. Violence is present everywhere. We see it on the news, we see it in person, we hear about it, and
it's overall all around us. Violence has always happened no matter when or where you are.
The type that I rank first from the list would have to be verbal violence just because I believe it is the most powerful and hurtful. In Romeo and Juliet,
verbal violence was somewhat present, but not as much as physical violence. When people from each of the houses saw each other and could not fight,
many of them were arguing or talking bad about each other

Violence Against Children Essay
Violence against children is a phenomenon happening worldwide, in forms of physical, psychological violence. Children are deprived of care, basic
social services, health care and education, child abuse, neglect, exploitation, forced to beg, trafficked. Children are still one of the social groups at risk,
facing many problems that remain unresolved. Although the consequences may vary according to the type and severity of the violence, the short and
long–term consequences for children are very often serious and destructive and are costly. The laws that protect children's rights are often not effective.

Acceptance of child abuse is also an important factor: both children and abusers may accept physical, sexual and psychological violence as inevitable
and normal. Discipline through physical and humiliating punishment, bullying and sexual harassment are often perceived as normal, especially when
they do not result in harm "visible" or lasting. Suffering children are invisible when cases of abuse or neglect are not claimed, in certain situations;
people do not trust the police, social services and other state authorities. In the current period more than ever, to prevent any unsuitable behavior, it
must be well justified and financially prepared. There is little information available about the global economic costs of violence against children.
However, the bill for such actions against children proves to be high. The variety of short and long term consequences associated with violence against
children suggests that there are significant economic costs to society. Thus, the U.S., the cost of abuse and neglect was about 103.8 billion USD in
2007, the estimated annual cost of child abuse and neglect in the United States for 2008 is $124 billion. including both direct costs associated with
early intervention, medical treatment and associated psychological and indirect consequences related to long–term ill–treatment at individual and
societal. Protection of children

Violence And Its Effect On Society
Introduction The presence of violence is all around us; embedded in our everyday lives. Such acts may be masked and subtle; while others are
exposed and evident. One thing, however, is certain, a single act of violence creates a rippling effect of repercussions. The use of violence "can often
leave much longer lasting residues of violence which return again in the future" (Brand–Jacobsen, 2005, p. 12). This cycle of malice and destruction
must end. Thus, where does one begin to initiate change? Awareness is key in the stand against violence. For I cannot solve the problem if I am
incognizant of it preying in plain sight. Moreover, claims of ignorance and partial justification are not acceptable excuses to dismiss or ignore the
veracity of violence among us. I believe just as violence can propagate from one act, so can acts of peace. Reflection I am guilty of turning a blind
eye in the face of violence (structural and cultural). I have walked away and dismissed it in my mind because to acknowledge it makes it real. And
once it becomes real, I have to do something about it. By nature, I am a very anxious person. As such, I am uncomfortable with uncharted waters and
conflict. I do not instigate or involve myself in conflict to keep my stress level at a minimum. Therefore, I adamantly avoid situations with a
propensity for violence at all costs. Until this class, I was uninformed of the various forms of violence with the exception of direct violence. However,

Essay on Violence As A Social Problem
Violence is a social problem that increases over the years. Violence is not so much shown in magazines and books as it is on television and the
media. This does not mean that violence on television is the only source for aggressive or violent behavior, but it is a significant contributor. Children
can also pick up violence from a parent or guardian at an early age. Peers are important in a child's life. It has been psychologically proven that males
are more aggressive than females. Therefore, if a child's peers are being aggressive, their actions tend to be imitated.
American children watch an average of three to four hours of television daily, which can be a powerful influence in developing value systems...show

Some people fail to see that they are being imitated and looked upon as a role model from those younger than them. If a babysitter is listening to
music that contains violent lyrics or profanity, they should not be shocked if the child copies it. Parents' arguments are also taken in by the child.
Parents should try not to show violence towards each other when around a child. They should also disapprove of the violent episodes in front of the
children, stressing the belief that such behavior is not the best way to resolve a problem.
A child's peers mean a lot to their attitude whether one wants to believe it or not. It blends in with their need to fit in. Popularity is what one hopes
and dreams for during their teenage years. Therefore, children try to duplicate others actions. This factor may tend to lead to racial or sexual
stereotyping consequently making the child believe that anyone different from these characteristics should be punished. This takes the child into the
stage of what type of music to listen to as spoken about before.
Everyday we are all caught in a losing battle, the challenge of our society to preserve safety for children and protect them from violence and guns.
The facts are that violence is everywhere, it is impossible to ignore them. It even seems as though no one recognized this as their problem

Essay about School Violence
Over the past several years, an epidemic of school violence has overtaken our nation. From monthly shootings, to daily bomb threats around the country,
violence is becoming more and more common in schools. It is typical to hear about acts of violence among our youth everyday on the news. Although
more numerous in cities, this violence does not discriminate against inner city or suburban areas; it happens everywhere. When addressing this quick
spread of crime, one can inquire as to its history and why it happens, myths about school violence, and how was can taper it, by the use of technology.

3 Practical School Security). This is not the case; while there are problems that are "normal," sometimes they are not handled correctly or thoroughly.
Often things are handled administratively but not given to law enforcements to deal with. For instance, if theft occurs in the school, the law should
be involved, due to the fact that theft is against the law. However, this is not the case in a lot of school systems. Young adults then may get the notion
that is "ok" to steal, vandalize, and be aggressive towards one another with no consequences. Sometimes, if a young adult commits a crime, there
needs to be more of a consequence then simply being suspended from school. The school systems reason for not reporting crimes has to do alot with
politics. The administration does not want bad publicity, or they "fear for being blamed and not doing their job correctly" (23). Another major reason
for not reporting school–based crimes is the media. If there is violence in a school, it will be publicized in the media. In reality, the school system
needs to be on the same page with the police, so they can help one another out.
The top five issues that are capturing the attention of the U.S. is "aggression and violent behavior, drugs, weapons, gangs, and 'Stranger danger'" (p.5)
These are the issues that have parents concerned, rather than the vandalism or the one on one fights. One of the most

Social Problem Of Violence Against Women
Violence against women is huge social problem. It is not just a women's problem but also a men's problem. Violence against women is seen
everywhere in the world, especial those who live in more patriarchal society. We are in a world where we see violence against women as a big issue but
we have done very little to dissolve it. Violence against women is everywhere, at home, at the workplace, and even outside, in the places in between.
Violence against women does not discriminate, it touches every race and at every age. Many violence against women are left without punishment. No
matter how small or how big the violence is, it needs to be addressed. Violence against women is very much workplace as any other place. Violence
against women is mostly seen when the person initiating violence is in a higher position then a women. This leads to many acts of violence left
unpunished or resolved. Because those initiating the violence is mostly male who are the boss or the manager, females do not speak up and report it.
Females will most likely not report it because they will not like to lose their job, they would believe no one will believe them, and it would cost to
much drama and talk in the workplace. Just a slap or a push is left unreported because females believes they are minor things compared to other things.
Plus, females in the workplace still have to deal with sexual harassment. So, most little things are left unreported because, even though, we believe we

I believe the social world greatly influences your understanding and awareness of violence. The shows that children watch condone violent conduct and
make us as people more likely to respond to situations in a more violent behavior. When children spend more time watching TV, they become more
susceptible to the violent actions that they watch on the screen, just as the studies showed. If you are constantly exposed to violent tendencies, you are
more aware of the violence around you and in the world. Growing up, the most important social groups were my school friends an family members. I

Is Violence ever justified
Is violence ever justified? The debate about the use of violence has been on going for the last decade. Violence, the act of causing physical harm to
another person willingly, has often been categorized as being an uncivilized, unjustified act. It is mostly known, and commonsensical knowledge that
attacking or inflicting harm upon another person is "wrong". Most of us frown upon people who resort to such violent acts, and they are punishable
by law. However, as we progress into the 21st century, the line of when the use of violence can ever be "right" or justified is getting increasingly
blurred. The need for war, punishment, and even domestic violence can be said to deter further violence or stop present violence from exacerbating.

When such actions are clouded with alcohol, or not done in a rational state of mind, this violence cannot be justified. Such disciplinary actions can
also inflict adverse effects on children instead. For example, children may start to be afraid of their parents, or be even more rebellious. It is also in
the belief of some parents that it is wrong to lay a finger on their children, regardless of whether disciplining them in this way can correct their actions.
Another instance when violence can be justified is when one is protecting himself from another person's attacks. It is only human nature to protect
oneself, in the only way one knows how to. For example, if one was held at gun–point and given the chance, one would definitely rib his attacker and
proceed to inflict harm on him in any way, to make an escape. In times of desperation, violence is seen as the only way out and thus can be justified.
A gray area in using violence as an act of self–defence has recently been challenged in the Trayvon Martin incident that happened in Florida, USA.
George Zimmerman, a 28 year old Hispanic, fatally shot 17– year –old African American Martin, as an act of self–defence, although the teenager did
not carry any lethal weapons on him. The fact that Zimmerman could have made an error in his judgment, yet proceeded to assault and shoot the
teenager has brought up questions and protests as to whether violence is justified when merely assuming another to be a threat to one's

Violence, is one of the most popular issues in the whole world today. It is a dreadful behavior that is repeated among people and may cause serious
problems that leads to horrifying situations. It comes in many different types, from verbal abuse to brutal violence. Generally violence is awful. It can
affect almost anyone and may also result injuries, depression, and death. There is no happy ending or resolution when discussing the complex problem
of violence. Violence is a wrong activity to do and could end up hurting others, so because of that we all must do something about to stop it so
violence will not continue on. Why? There are three main topics about the types, how it can affect others, and mainly how we can stop it.

It's easy to say that a person is against violence and bullying. But actively, working to make peace in a community is difficult. There are a couple of
ways to stop them. First of all, make sure children have caring adults in their lives. If they grow up without care and respect, they might end up being
unpleasant and cruel. Also, talk to a doctor, nurse, or therapist for help with these behaviors. Look for healthy ways to reduce stress. Try exercise,
deep–breathing or other relaxation techniques, and reaching out for support to friends, family, and community groups. Give the kids full attention
when they are young and giving care. Maybe, helping children find something they are good at and offer achievements. Make a decision to identify
and raise consciousness of violence in all its forms, such as influencing people to choose specific actions and behaviors that work positive, healthy and

Persuasive Essay On Violence

  • 1. Persuasive Essay On Violence Violence is a controversial topic and has generated much debate. Many people are of the opinion that violence is never acceptable and should never be tolerated, but this is not true. Violence is not a moral thing and can result in terror, pain, and chaos. Therefore, it makes sense that violence should always, if possible, be avoided. However, violence is justified if it is in self–defense or in the defense of others. Violence is never warranted if used for one's own gain, to exact revenge, or to exert power, but in the defense of human life, it is sometimes necessary. Some may disagree and argue that it doesn't matter the situation, violence is never necessary, but there is an abundance of evidence that proves this to be false. Without the brave soldiers of the late 1770s battling against the tyranny of the King of England, The United States could still be under British rule. Without brave people fighting for justice and peace in World War II, this world would very likely be a much darker place. Violence in the form of defense of other human beings is necessary and noble. After the horrific terrorist attack on September 11, 2001, former President George W. Bush said in his address to the nation, "America has stood down enemies before, and we will do so this time. We go forward to defend freedom and all that is good and just in our world". (Bush 64) The first situation in which violence is acceptable, and even sometimes necessary, is in self–defense. • 2. Essay about Justification Of Violence Justification of Violence Violence and the justification of it has been an issue for as long as the world has been in existence. There are many conflicting opinions on the subject, many in favor and many opposing the idea. I am personally split on the issue; I believe that in some cases, violence can be justified; however, I also believe that in others, it cannot be. In my opinion, the only instance in which violence can be justified is self–defense. I believe that if an innocent person is attacked for some reason and their life is put in danger, they have the right to fight back to save themselves. How can a person let themselves be attacked and do nothing to help themselves survive? It's almost unreasonable to believe that. There are...show more content... But, I believe that when you hit a child when they do something wrong, they don't repeat the action because they're afraid of the consequences, rather than understanding why they shouldn't do it again. It gives the wrong impression on the child and teaches them that violence is okay if you're trying to teach someone a lesson, so they carry this over into their lives when they get older, and the chain of violence is never broken. War, in general, I believe, is ineffective. I think that it totally uses the wrong reasons for countries to agree to compromise. It's amazing that before war, countries are totally against one another, yet after blowing away half of each other's population, they're willing to talk. It makes you think. I think that if countries would talk out their problems in a more peaceful manner, they would much easier come up with plans that would include both of their needs and desires. I think the world uses war in the wrong way; they're in wars to show their own power and prove themselves to the world. War is not only bad because of those reasons. It is also negative because innocent men and women from the involved countries are killed. Even if they couldn't care less about what was going on, they are drafted to fight for their country. And many of them die, which is really depressing, because they didn't Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Violence And Violence In Literature Authors use violence to portray many different things while they write books. Violence adds shock to readers which makes them want to continue reading the book that they are reading. This shock makes the authors have more options to write about and gives them a lot of flexibility, which will help make their writing even better than it already is. To go along with shock, violence can also add emotion to the readers which makes them understand characters even more. Readers may feel sympathy for a character if a someone close to them dies in a violent way. Many authors rely on violence for their success as a writer. In the book How to Read Literature Like a Professor , the author, Thomas Foster reflects on how without the use of violence many writers would be nowhere today. "Violence is everywhere in literature. We'd lose most of Shakespeare without it ...Twain... Fitzgerald...Hemingway...and on and on" (Foster 103). Without the presence of violence, several authors would have no career in being an author. Authors also use violence to make novels be more realistic. Everyone goes through violence in their life and they have some sort of downfall. Since authors use it in their books, it makes the readers feel like the book is more sensible while they read. Violence is used by an author in literature because it adds the element of shock which make readers want to keep on reading, and it adds emotion to the readers so they can feel for the characters. • 4. Violence Essays Violence Boink! Boom! Crack! The sounds of the fight scene rage on. Many have fallen in this particularly bloody battle. The good guys have taken their losses but struggle on to what is seemingly a victory. Their aggression is fierce and helps them. Fires consume the background; men and women lie on the ground in pain. Even if it weren't for the bombs, missiles, bullets, etc. that are flying around, hand–to–hand combat would have got the better of them. It was a classic battle scene when looking back at it, a true testament of blood, hell, and gore. This may sound like a heroic made–for–TV movie shown only on primetime in the hopes of recruiting a mature audience. But it is not. In fact, it is just another Saturday–morning special of...show more content... 45–52). To television Programmers, violence is depicted as a normal, justified response to conflict and threat. They will encourage identification with the aggressor; domination and submission, to them, are often equated with pleasure and worth. Yet numerous researchers have put much time into discovering why children are so attached by the television and the action that takes place within it. They prove that it is definitely a major source of violent behavior in children. Their research proves time and time again that aggression and television viewing do go hand in hand. The truth about television violence and children has been shown. Many people and critics try to ignore it and hope that it will go away. Others do not even seem to care and try to attack these ideas. However, the facts are undeniable and all the results point to one conclusion: Television violence causes children to be violent and the effects can be life–long. The effects of the television are first visible even at the most basic level of life, children and adolescents. The modern–day extent of viewing by humans, especially Americans, is astronomical. Children begin to watch television at very early ages, often when they are newborns. At this time they are obviously not able to follow along or be influenced by it, but they are subjected to it nevertheless. This early start will lead most childhood viewers Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Essay on Violence Violence is one of the most problematic issues society faces today, and it has been increasing day after day, in the streets of our cities. The most common description of what violence really is can be given as negativity towards something or someone either through physical or verbal actions, which often causes the victim to suffer pain. The different types of violence that exist in our multi–cultural society are out–numbered, but the most evident ones are domestic, gang, sexual, and racial violence. While violence can definitely be reduced, it will never be eliminated due to the nature of humans. Domestic violence, also known as spousal abuse, occurs when a person in an intimate relationship or marriage tries to dominate and control...show more content... On October 24 2000, a news article headline read, "Gang wars 6 Dead". This event had taken place in Etobicoke, and the news article contained sentences like "Six victims in six months" and "calculated executions". It also contained terms like "Bloods" and "Crips". These terms and sentences have officially crossed the border and have become all too familiar in Canadian cities. In order to cut back this outlaw behaviour, we need to educate our youth about the ill effects of gangs, drugs, guns, and should try to persuade them to instead make friends with those who accept you for who you are and use all their time in doing something positive and proactive. As a result of reducing and preventing gang violence, many cities have created special task forces and given schools their own police officers. Sexual violence is another form of violence that has plagued our cities. This crime involves violence that is specifically sexual in nature, to which the victim does not give consent. According to 2005 statistics, 51% of all Canadian women have experienced at least one incident of sexual violence. 6 out of 10 victims who reported being sexually violated were under 17. These numbers are alarming and scary. It is extremely important to get rid of such sinister crimes in our communities because it robs the victims of their innocence, self–esteem, confidence, and even trust in our society. • 6. Violence Begets Violence Right now at this very moment you can turn your TV on and watch just about anything that you want to, this also means so can your children. Do you know how much violence is being broadcasted through the media just today? Do you understand how this is affecting your child? Do you know that from birth to age 25 their brain is growing, and there are these neurons, "mirror neurons" that teach us to imitate what we see? What if it was your child who went to school with a gun? What if it was your child who was shot by a class mate? I believe that we as a country should force the media to limit the amount of violence that is being viewed by the public. Not just for ourselves but also for our children. As a member of the United States Military I...show more content... Joanne H Steward and Franco Follina (2006) say that literature review has discussed evidence on the impact of exposure to violence on aggressive and inappropriate behavior. The review has provided mainly evidence that exposure to media violence affects a person's behavior negatively and has been noted to have a detrimental effect on pro–social behavior, both in the long and short term. So not only are we is the media contributing to violence in children, but it can also affect them in adulthood. This shows that violence is the affecting factor. They why are we not willing to change? Why has the system stayed the same for so very long? If violence is making our society change for the worst then why can we not change for the better? Science says that our brain is growing and learning new things from birth to 25 years of age. During the time I have spent researching this topic I have learned a catch phrase from scientists around the world. Money see Monkey do. And in V.S. Ramachandrans article Mirror Neurons and the Brain in a Vat. He states that They found that Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Definition Essay On Violence Violence Violence is everywhere now, it seems that violence is everywhere you go nowadays. You just have to realize that you can't escape violence. There are many reasons why people resolve things using violence. For instance, when someone is being disrespectful or other personal problems that affected that person somehow. Nowadays you can't even leave your house feeling safe since violence is very common now. Since violence is very common now, no one ever feels protected. If you see a suspicious person near you, you will automatically think that they are going to try and do something to you. • 8. Violence And The Power Of Words "Through violence you may 'solve' one problem, but you sow the seeds for another." Dalai Lama. If there wasn't the power of the pen, then what would be left? Even though some people may argue that the sword is more powerful than the pen, the pen is more powerful. What would the world be like if we always fixed our problems using the force of violence? The sword and the pen both have huge impacts on our lives, but which makes a greater impact? Although violence and the power of words seem like two different things, they both impact us equally. Without the power of words, without freedom of speech, what's left? Words will get us way further in life than violence.Education for example. Education gets us further in life. It gives us hope for a better life and a better future. Words are a way to express how you're feeling and your opinions. We can all imagine a world without violence, but can we imagine a world without words? Words can impact our...show more content... didn't believe in using violence. Martin Luther King jr went to India and met a guy named Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi was his mentor and taught him that he shouldn't use violence. Even during the Civil rights movement when White men were treating African Americans poorly, he didn't use violence to fight back he used his words. "No tide of racism can stop us." Martin Luther King jr. He gave a speech on August 28, 1963 about not using violence and freedom for all. "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character" Martin Luther King jr. Violence is not the right way to settle your problems. The power of the pen has so much power that nobody knows about, the pen is something that will follow you for the rest of you life. All problems can be solved with words but violence makes things worse. Would you rather be known for your words or for the act of violence that you Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Violence : Violence And Violence 1. The internet says that violence means the behavior involving physical force intended to hurt, damage, or kill someone or something. Violence is more than that. To me violence means to bring harm or exert negativity to someone whether it's verbally, physically, emotionally, sexually, psychologically, spiritually, culturally, and financially or neglect.Violence comes in different forms and to just define it as being a physical thing is presenting or forming a problem in our society today. We tend to make something like this as just one thing when violence can be exerted in different ways. A person can be violent towards someone by just cursing at them or by verbally insulting them. Violence comes any different forms. You don't have to physically hit someone to be violent. If people would think of violence as being more than just physical violence would decrease because we as people would be aware of violence and try to prevent from acting out violent acts. There are different things or factors that label something as being a sort of violent act. I would consider something as being violent due to the content that is being used by users. It wouldn't matter who it is being presented towards because it doesn't matter. Violence is Violence. I would say that it is very hard to label something as being violent because violence acts occur frequently more times than usually around friends when playing. For an example when two females or males are talking to one another and they Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Three Levels Of Violence Essay The three degrees of violence I chose are physical violence, verbal violence, and prejudice. All of the types of violence I chose can be very hurtful, whether it hurts someone physically or emotionally. Violence is present everywhere. We see it on the news, we see it in person, we hear about it, and it's overall all around us. Violence has always happened no matter when or where you are. The type that I rank first from the list would have to be verbal violence just because I believe it is the most powerful and hurtful. In Romeo and Juliet, verbal violence was somewhat present, but not as much as physical violence. When people from each of the houses saw each other and could not fight, many of them were arguing or talking bad about each other Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Violence Against Children Essay Violence against children is a phenomenon happening worldwide, in forms of physical, psychological violence. Children are deprived of care, basic social services, health care and education, child abuse, neglect, exploitation, forced to beg, trafficked. Children are still one of the social groups at risk, facing many problems that remain unresolved. Although the consequences may vary according to the type and severity of the violence, the short and long–term consequences for children are very often serious and destructive and are costly. The laws that protect children's rights are often not effective. Child abuse takes a variety of forms and is influenced by a variety of factors, individual characteristics of the victim and abuser, the...show more content... Acceptance of child abuse is also an important factor: both children and abusers may accept physical, sexual and psychological violence as inevitable and normal. Discipline through physical and humiliating punishment, bullying and sexual harassment are often perceived as normal, especially when they do not result in harm "visible" or lasting. Suffering children are invisible when cases of abuse or neglect are not claimed, in certain situations; people do not trust the police, social services and other state authorities. In the current period more than ever, to prevent any unsuitable behavior, it must be well justified and financially prepared. There is little information available about the global economic costs of violence against children. However, the bill for such actions against children proves to be high. The variety of short and long term consequences associated with violence against children suggests that there are significant economic costs to society. Thus, the U.S., the cost of abuse and neglect was about 103.8 billion USD in 2007, the estimated annual cost of child abuse and neglect in the United States for 2008 is $124 billion. including both direct costs associated with early intervention, medical treatment and associated psychological and indirect consequences related to long–term ill–treatment at individual and societal. What is the cause violence? What can you do about violence? Recently, it seems as if some people have lost their sense of self–control. More mass murders are developing and some people are afraid of leaving home. Imagine someone enters the place you love most, a place you feel safe in comes in and disrupts the place by going ballistic and shooting, not just towards anonymous people but to those you consider family. This violence affects my life by making my the turn every time I hear a door open or considering that anyone surrounding me can be someone armed ready to harm. • 13. Violence And Its Effect On Society Introduction The presence of violence is all around us; embedded in our everyday lives. Such acts may be masked and subtle; while others are exposed and evident. One thing, however, is certain, a single act of violence creates a rippling effect of repercussions. The use of violence "can often leave much longer lasting residues of violence which return again in the future" (Brand–Jacobsen, 2005, p. 12). This cycle of malice and destruction must end. Thus, where does one begin to initiate change? Awareness is key in the stand against violence. For I cannot solve the problem if I am incognizant of it preying in plain sight. Moreover, claims of ignorance and partial justification are not acceptable excuses to dismiss or ignore the veracity of violence among us. I believe just as violence can propagate from one act, so can acts of peace. Reflection I am guilty of turning a blind eye in the face of violence (structural and cultural). I have walked away and dismissed it in my mind because to acknowledge it makes it real. And once it becomes real, I have to do something about it. By nature, I am a very anxious person. As such, I am uncomfortable with uncharted waters and conflict. I do not instigate or involve myself in conflict to keep my stress level at a minimum. Therefore, I adamantly avoid situations with a propensity for violence at all costs. Until this class, I was uninformed of the various forms of violence with the exception of direct violence. • 14. Essay on Violence As A Social Problem Violence is a social problem that increases over the years. Violence is not so much shown in magazines and books as it is on television and the media. This does not mean that violence on television is the only source for aggressive or violent behavior, but it is a significant contributor. Children can also pick up violence from a parent or guardian at an early age. Peers are important in a child's life. It has been psychologically proven that males are more aggressive than females. Therefore, if a child's peers are being aggressive, their actions tend to be imitated. American children watch an average of three to four hours of television daily, which can be a powerful influence in developing value systems...show more content... Some people fail to see that they are being imitated and looked upon as a role model from those younger than them. If a babysitter is listening to music that contains violent lyrics or profanity, they should not be shocked if the child copies it. Parents' arguments are also taken in by the child. Parents should try not to show violence towards each other when around a child. They should also disapprove of the violent episodes in front of the children, stressing the belief that such behavior is not the best way to resolve a problem. A child's peers mean a lot to their attitude whether one wants to believe it or not. It blends in with their need to fit in. Popularity is what one hopes and dreams for during their teenage years. Therefore, children try to duplicate others actions. This factor may tend to lead to racial or sexual stereotyping consequently making the child believe that anyone different from these characteristics should be punished. This takes the child into the stage of what type of music to listen to as spoken about before. Everyday we are all caught in a losing battle, the challenge of our society to preserve safety for children and protect them from violence and guns. The facts are that violence is everywhere, it is impossible to ignore them. It even seems as though no one recognized this as their problem Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Essay about School Violence Over the past several years, an epidemic of school violence has overtaken our nation. From monthly shootings, to daily bomb threats around the country, violence is becoming more and more common in schools. It is typical to hear about acts of violence among our youth everyday on the news. Although more numerous in cities, this violence does not discriminate against inner city or suburban areas; it happens everywhere. When addressing this quick spread of crime, one can inquire as to its history and why it happens, myths about school violence, and how was can taper it, by the use of technology. History of School Violence The history of violence in schools has no set pattern, but statistics report back to the 1970s. In 1978, a...show more content... 3 Practical School Security). This is not the case; while there are problems that are "normal," sometimes they are not handled correctly or thoroughly. Often things are handled administratively but not given to law enforcements to deal with. For instance, if theft occurs in the school, the law should be involved, due to the fact that theft is against the law. However, this is not the case in a lot of school systems. Young adults then may get the notion that is "ok" to steal, vandalize, and be aggressive towards one another with no consequences. Sometimes, if a young adult commits a crime, there needs to be more of a consequence then simply being suspended from school. The school systems reason for not reporting crimes has to do alot with politics. The administration does not want bad publicity, or they "fear for being blamed and not doing their job correctly" (23). Another major reason for not reporting school–based crimes is the media. If there is violence in a school, it will be publicized in the media. In reality, the school system needs to be on the same page with the police, so they can help one another out. The top five issues that are capturing the attention of the U.S. is "aggression and violent behavior, drugs, weapons, gangs, and 'Stranger danger'" (p.5) These are the issues that have parents concerned, rather than the vandalism or the one on one fights. • 16. Social Problem Of Violence Against Women Violence against women is huge social problem. It is not just a women's problem but also a men's problem. Violence against women is seen everywhere in the world, especial those who live in more patriarchal society. We are in a world where we see violence against women as a big issue but we have done very little to dissolve it. Violence against women is everywhere, at home, at the workplace, and even outside, in the places in between. Violence against women does not discriminate, it touches every race and at every age. Many violence against women are left without punishment. No matter how small or how big the violence is, it needs to be addressed. Violence against women is very much workplace as any other place. Violence against women is mostly seen when the person initiating violence is in a higher position then a women. This leads to many acts of violence left unpunished or resolved. Because those initiating the violence is mostly male who are the boss or the manager, females do not speak up and report it. Females will most likely not report it because they will not like to lose their job, they would believe no one will believe them, and it would cost to much drama and talk in the workplace. Just a slap or a push is left unreported because females believes they are minor things compared to other things. Plus, females in the workplace still have to deal with sexual harassment. So, most little things are left unreported because, even though, we believe we live in a more Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Violence In Sociology I believe the social world greatly influences your understanding and awareness of violence. The shows that children watch condone violent conduct and make us as people more likely to respond to situations in a more violent behavior. When children spend more time watching TV, they become more susceptible to the violent actions that they watch on the screen, just as the studies showed. If you are constantly exposed to violent tendencies, you are more aware of the violence around you and in the world. Growing up, the most important social groups were my school friends an family members. I often picked up on behaviors from my friends that I was not taught in my home, and when I was with my friends I felt like I had more self control because Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Is Violence ever justified Is violence ever justified? The debate about the use of violence has been on going for the last decade. Violence, the act of causing physical harm to another person willingly, has often been categorized as being an uncivilized, unjustified act. It is mostly known, and commonsensical knowledge that attacking or inflicting harm upon another person is "wrong". Most of us frown upon people who resort to such violent acts, and they are punishable by law. However, as we progress into the 21st century, the line of when the use of violence can ever be "right" or justified is getting increasingly blurred. The need for war, punishment, and even domestic violence can be said to deter further violence or stop present violence from exacerbating. ...show more content... When such actions are clouded with alcohol, or not done in a rational state of mind, this violence cannot be justified. Such disciplinary actions can also inflict adverse effects on children instead. For example, children may start to be afraid of their parents, or be even more rebellious. It is also in the belief of some parents that it is wrong to lay a finger on their children, regardless of whether disciplining them in this way can correct their actions. Another instance when violence can be justified is when one is protecting himself from another person's attacks. It is only human nature to protect oneself, in the only way one knows how to. For example, if one was held at gun–point and given the chance, one would definitely rib his attacker and proceed to inflict harm on him in any way, to make an escape. In times of desperation, violence is seen as the only way out and thus can be justified. A gray area in using violence as an act of self–defence has recently been challenged in the Trayvon Martin incident that happened in Florida, USA. George Zimmerman, a 28 year old Hispanic, fatally shot 17– year –old African American Martin, as an act of self–defence, although the teenager did not carry any lethal weapons on him. The fact that Zimmerman could have made an error in his judgment, yet proceeded to assault and shoot the teenager has brought up questions and protests as to whether violence is justified when merely assuming another to be a threat to one's Get more content on HelpWriting.net
