German part, isolated from a huge wall that belonged to West Germany. This wall made it hard for the citizens of East Germany to visit West
Germany. The Government of East Germany had other principles than the government of West Germany and it was not in the interest of the East
German government to show their citizens how good their life could be in West Germany. After the falling of the Wall, it was possible for everyone to
travel in Germany whenever they want without standing in line at the borders. But there was a big gap in wealth between East and West Germany.
Even today the loans in West Germany are lower and the federal states have less money than the ones in West Germany. But in Berlin, one can visit
ruins of the Berlin Wall which are colored and painted. As one could know from visiting Berlin, there is only a small part of the Wall left but at other
parts, one could find the position of the wall with marked flagging on the ground. Additionally, one could buy a piece of the wall as a souvenir.
Standing in front of the ruins of the Berlin wall inspires this realization: Peace is about breaking barriers not building them.

Perhaps the most visual reference to the Cold War was the Berlin Wall. Although this wall only existed to divide Berlin into two sides, it became a
physical representation of the Cold war for many and its fall in 1989 has been regarded to many as the end of the Cold War.
I have always been interested in the background history behind the Berlin Wall. Since I started school in the 80s and was in High School while the Cold
War was winding down, I don't have a great personal understanding of many of the events leading up to the Cold War, other than from history classes
and watching movies in school about it. I remember watching the movie "Night Crossing" in middle school when we were studying about the Berlin
Wall.
When I started looking for topics a few weeks ago I wanted to learn more about the Berlin Wall. I have since realized that to study the history of the
Berlin Wall in one semester is something that would only allow me to skim through various sources and information, there is simply too much
information to learn and so much of it available that I have chosen to focus my research so far on the Fall of the Berlin wall. The events of the
mid–to–late 80s that changed the political atmosphere enough to bring the wall down.
There are numerous Primary Sources available for this study, some I have looked at already are the 1987 Reagan speech at the Brandenburg gate in
Berlin, from which the famous "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!" quote was heard. I have also

The Damaged Eyes of the Berlin Wall I never expected to look forward to my own destruction. Normally, us walls look forward to staying up for
eternity, and to watch the different types of people interact, and to see various events happen around us. When I was being built, I immediately felt

After the conclusion of World War II, Germany was split into four sections, each occupied by the respective nations of France, Britain, America, and the
Soviet Union. The Western nations of France, Britain, and the United States joined together and formedWest Germany, while the communist U.S.S.R.
maintained its own grip on East Germany.
The capital of Germany, Berlin, was likewise divided into four sections occupied by the aforementioned nations. Again, the Western nations (France,
Britain, U.S.A.) occupied the western–half of Berlin (West Berlin) and the Soviet Union occupied the eastern half (East Berlin). Though the whole of
Berlin was occupied by four powers, its borders lay entirely within the Soviet Union's section of Germany.
West Berlin, which had access to recovery programs such as the Marshall Plan, swiftly improved from its previous war–torn state and rose to greater
economic heights. East Germany however, existing under the harsh, punishing command of the Soviet Union, failed to make such a grand comeback.
It instead faltered into a stagnant, heavily–controlled nation with little freedom and no signs of economic or social improvement. Since the Soviet

plant a garden outside of the building to cover up them being there. They got the shovels and equipment to start digging. It was finally time to start

The Berlin Wall, also known as the Berliner Mauer, stood as the physical division between East and West Germany from 1961 to 1989. Moreover, it
served to separate the two differing ideologies, the democracy in the West and the communism in the East. It was an initiative taken by the Communists

When the Soviet Union and Communism was at its peak, America faced difficulties due to the power of the Soviet Union, especially in theCold War.
However, the fall of the Berlin Wall symbolized the fall of Communism in Eastern Europe and this provided major relief for America as they were
almost pushed to the brink of a nuclear war, in the Cuban missile crisis. Moreover, the collapse of Communism and subsequently, the fall of the
Soviet Union, left the US as the only superpower of the world, albeit temporarily. This meant that they could afford to restructure and reduce their
military expenditure and help promote peace and democracy in the world. Whether they were able to do so effectively is another debate. But the fact
is, the collapse of Communism in Eastern Europe, stopped what might have been a severe disaster in the form of a nuclear war, and led to a more
