Realism Essay
Realism
Realism means accuracy of speech and setting, thorough background detail and a concern for vermisimitude or realism could mean the willingness to
face the facts. Realism is hard to define. There are different types of realism documentary, social, emotional and dramatic.
Technical codes play an important role in making realism in soaps, this refers to documentary realism where soaps are supposed to look like they
haven't been constructed and camera work shouldn't be too complicated, it should be like looking in on someone's life through their window. The
editing should be invisible making the soap look like a continuous shot so it doesn't look like we are watching a piece of...show more content...
The setting of Eastenders is a mythical 1950's setting with the street markets and the close community people knowing everybody else's business. I
think that they have made this representation look very realistic but I also think that people will find it hard to relate to this more because most
London communities are not like this anymore and people would feel uneasy and unsafe with the idea of keeping their backdoor open all day.
Storylines are another important element in realism; it involves the use of social realism where soaps use social issues (eg. Teenage pregnancy; In
Coronation Street Sarah Platt deals with the pressures of becoming pregnant at the age of 13. Another example of a social issue is family feuds,
which is shown constantly in Eastenders within the Slater family.) that effect the working class. This is good because the audience will then feel that
they can relate to at least one social issue and involves them more with the soap. Emotional realism is also used, people become attached, they are
watching something that is emotionally true to life but what they see isn't real on a denotative level. An example of this is in Coronation Street, when
Karen was experiencing a miscarriage and having to cope with the grief afterwards. Another example is in Eastenders, when Little Mo was
experiencing constant domestic violence from

Realists Vs. Liberals
Realists and Liberals have their differences. One can already foresee that Realism has much more a conservative and pessimistic vision of the world.
This comes from the realist's skepticism about the capacity of human reason and the delivery of moral progress, all due to self–interest. As growth is
not possible for Realism, survival of the state is the solitary thing that matters, which therefore reflects on its conservatism. From a realist perspective,
the most important objective is relative power, whether a state is more or less powerful than one's traditional rival. This concept influences how states
act. States that have relatively more power; have very few constraints to states that have less power. Overall, this influences the stability

Realism Theatre Essay
Realism is the movement toward representing reality as it is, in art. Realistic drama is an attempt to portray life on stage, a movement away from the
conventional melodramas and sentimental comedies of the 1700s. It is expressed in theatre through the use of symbolism, character development,
stage setting and storyline and is exemplified in plays such as Henrik Ibsen's A Doll's House and Anton Chekhov's The Three Sisters. The arrival of
realism was indeed good for theatre as it promoted greater audience involvement and raised awareness of contemporary social and moral issues. It also
provided and continues to provide a medium through which playwrights can express their views about societal values, attitudes and morals. A Doll's

Thus drama became an experience closely impinging on the conscience of the audience. Ibsen was also unique for his use of symbolism to assist
realism on stage. Symbolic significance is presented through the detail of design, props and actions of the characters. For example, in Act III, Nora
goes offstage to get changed; "I'm changing. No more fancy dress". It is a symbolic representation of her personal change, one where she has come to
the realization that she has been living the life of a doll, confined to the roles of a
"featherbrain", "plaything", "dove",
"skylark" and "songbird". Thus, symbolism enhanced realism, and its effect can be seen as positive in the sense that it stirred conscious awareness of
values. The stage settings of A Doll's House are an integral part of the theatrical design, and not mere dГ©cor to be overlooked. The setting in
Act II; "В…the Christmas tree stands stripped of its decorations and with its candles burnt to stumps" is symbolic of the lack of happiness in Nora's
life at that moment. Also the change of setting in Act III; "The tables and chairs have been moved centre" foreshadows a character change that will
take place in Nora. The many references to doors also have significance beyond the stage directions. The play begins with the opening of the door and
finishes with the "slamming" of the door. Nora enters the doll's house with the values of society and departs from it, symbolizing her rejection of

Political Realism Essay examples
People's ideas and assumptions about world politics shape and construct the theories that help explain world conflicts and events. These assumptions
can be classified into various known theoretical perspectives; the most dominant is political realism. Political realism is the most common theoretical
approach when it is in means of foreign policy and international issues. It is known as "realpolitik" and emphasis that the most important actor in global
politics is the state, which pursues self–interests, security, and growing power (Ray and Kaarbo 3). Realists generally suggest that interstate
cooperation is severely limited by each state's need to guarantee its own security in a global condition of anarchy. Political realist view...show more

The declining use of military force is the questionable aspect of this perspective because throughout the years it has been demonstrated that this is not
true. Military engagements in the nations states continue to be a problem and a violation to the state's sovereignty established by the Peace of
Westphalia in 1648. Although both of these theoretical perspectives have their flaws, they can both be used to analyze current issues of today, thus
establishing different interpretations for the same events, such as the oil crisis, global warming, and the most recent issue the occupy movements. To
begin with, one of the issues in today's society that has remained a dilemma for many years has been the oil crisis. The oil crisis is the problems where
the major industrial countries of the world, particularly the United States, faced substantial shortages of petroleum. As mentioned in Maxine's
presentation in my Pols–311 class, the two worst crises of oil have been the 1973 oil crisis, caused by the Arab Oil Embargo of OAPEC, and the 1979
energy crisis, caused by the Iranian Revolution. The issue of the oil crisis has lead many nations to seek petroleum by violating states sovereignty and
using the military in many occasions to do so. It has also lead nations like the United States to military support monarchies and dictatorships that would
allow the United States to
