Replacement Heifer Nutrition Internship
About the Internship
I worked in a team of four other college students: one from Ohio State, two
from Penn State and one from Purdue. I was based out of the mill in
Columbiana, Ohio. I traveled throughout Northeast Ohio, Western
Pennsylvania and Southern New York to current customers who used
Witmer’s nutritional consultants. I electronically weighed and measured
dairy heifers from wet calves through pre-fresh cattle and then put the data
into Excel to create growth charts using Penn State research. We also did a
cost analysis on a per farm basis, that estimated how much it was costing
the farmer to grow a replacement
Major Task and Duties
•Collected physical, financial and genomic

financial projections and genomic findings to
present to producer
•Made recommendations based on findings
•Collected various forage samples for testing
