Cramond update 1 from PMR Leisure 10th May - July 2023
May and June saw continued engagement with the community, Council and other sporting bodies
to start to review the outcomes of the research and community consultation .
This period has been undertaking discussions with clubs, Governing Bodies of Sport and
sportscotland to ensure we are able to come forward with a viable sporting mix of facilities.
The Almond ward is a rapidly growing ward and demand for sport provision to the north west of the
city will grow with it. How the sporting map and provision is catered for by the Council or others is
one which we need to take cognizance of as we develop the plans for the site. The community
growth strategy for sporting facilities is one which we will continue to discuss with the Council.
2. Meetings to consolidate earlier sporting interest are shared in the last report are occurring into
detail now and we are looking at how these potential facilities can come together on site and
operate together as a mix of community based provision.
The sporting mix is coming clear which includes indoor and outdoor provision. This includes Padel
courts, gym facilities, social community provision, outdoor pitch provision, running facilities and
play provision. A feeling of a community health and wellbeing is foremost in the project and
accessible opportunities prevails and we are working to achieve this with local partners with
support from Governing Bodies of Sport.
The CEC Sports Pitch Strategy is fully supporting the promotion of a synthetic pitch on site but we
recognize this perhaps will be a concern for some residents due to lighting. However, this will be
explored further as design options come forward.
Commercial opportunities /market research
AMA have been testing via direct approaches from local research and via their agents EY &Co and
Christie and Co the following market opportunities.
Coffee shop
Restaurant options
Shop, workspace
Care Home
Assisted living and associated walkways/ car parking
All this exploration has been done in line with feedback from the research and engagement with
the community. The interest is varied and AMA are about to feed various interests into a master
plan and consider planning and commercial viability of the desired scheme.
AMA are looking to select and synergise likeminded organisations with commercial ability to
perform on a long term under pinning sustainability model for the whole scheme.
We would like to remind everyone of the facilities which are coming forward and these are a
continuing theme. We will be testing these suggestions as we move forward to create viable mixed
sporting/commercially supported solution.
