12. Policies + Suggested Responses
Environmental Policies
Additional Policy: Avoidance of Creation of Brownfield Land
Additional Policy: Allotments & Food Growing Spaces
Housing Policies
Hou 8 Inappropriate Uses in Residential Areas - should contain more
specific references to Short Term Lets policies
Additional Policy: Policy requiring provision of Home Workspaces
13. Inf 6 Cycle Parking - Extend policy to include storage and e-charging for powered
mobility aids, especially in housing with many elderly, infirm or less-mobile
residents.
Inf 7 Private Car Parking -
• Make policy restricting private parking in new developments in Low Emission Zone
discretionary
• Remove policy restricting parking within curtilage of new dwellings to one car, or
make discretionary, as policy will increase on-street parking to detriment of cyclists
and utility and emergency services
Inf 8 Design of Car Parking - Add policy requiring garages in housing developments to
meet minimum size standards
Inf 9 City Centre Parking - Adopt more flexible approach to off-street parking in City Centre
to avoid discouraging residential development and provide for residents and others
with restricted mobility.
14. Policies + Suggested Responses
Econ 2 Commercial Development - CC recognises merits of mixed-use
developments with minimum 50% provision of housing alongside
commercial uses on larger sites, but questions achievability (e.g. noise
issues)
Econ 6 Hotel Development - Policies to promote further development of
hotels, should include ‘other visitor accommodation’, but be based
to achieve more sustainable management of tourism in Edinburgh
