2. • Select a corner to start placing
forms
• Work around foundation cutting as
needed
• Make cuts on 1” lines & place
without wedging the block
• Make cuts on straight forms only
• Measure walls and adjust to match
plan, if needed
• Zip tie or use Blocklox on all block
in 1st course
• Set & plumb door openings as
specified by plan
FIRST COURSE PLACEMENT
3. REBAR PLACEMENT
• Rebar size/position is specified by
engineer or code requirements
• Typical overlap is 40 times bar
diameter (db*40)
• Place rebar in outside chairs for 1st
course and to opposite position for
each course to top of wall
• If using pre-bent corner rebar, splice
laps must be db*40
• Allow minimum of 1” concrete
clearance between bar & EPS panels
4. SECOND COURSE
• Start at the same corner as first course
• Set right hand corner over a left hand
corner to offset joint 16”
• Align webs on all courses to match first
course webs
• Make adjustment cuts at location chosen
on the first course
• Use Block Lock or zip ties between corner
block and adjacent straight
• Set horizontal rebar opposite side of 1st
course
• Set & plumb window bucks in position if
sill level has been reached
5. LEVELING METHODS
BLOCK TOO HIGH
• Trim with a keyhole saw and push
block down into place
BLOCK TOO LOW
• Cut EPS shims and shim until level
• Fill void under form with low
expansion foam
AFTER WALLS ARE LEVELED
• Apply low expansion foam at
intersection of wall and footing on
both side of forms
• This prevents forms from being
moved out of place before the pour
6. THIRD COURSE
• 1st & 3rd courses have
identical block
placement
• Continue to check
square and level each
course
• Attach wall bracing after
3rd course is stacked
7. DOOR & WINDOW BUCKS
• Needed to maintain correct
opening size
• Contain concrete during pour
• Used to mount windows &
doors
• Can be vinyl, wood or metal
• Quantity need based on
opening lineal footage
8. LINTELS
• Lintel reinforcement varies
depending on opening size
• Horizontal rebar above
opening is db*40 or per
engineering requirements
or local codes
• Prescriptive Design of
Exterior Concrete Walls
contains charts for lintels
up to 16’3”
• Always check lintel
requirements with local
building code officials
9. UPPER COURSES
• TOP COURSE REBAR PLACEMENT
• Set horizontal following alternating
pattern
• Set verticals between horizontals to
match dowel spacing or as required
by local codes or engineering
• Position verticals in sleeves, if used
• Tie verticals slightly off bottom to top
horizontal to hold in center of wall
• If top story – finish verticals 3” below
top of wall or bottom of sill plate
• If additional story – extend rebar
above wall to maintain lap
requirements
UPPER COURSES
Stack following rules for 2nd & 3rd courses
10. MECHANICAL INSERTS
• Insert sleeves for all wall
penetrations
• Cut PVC longer than opening
width
• Use PVC with diameter larger
than opening
• After bracing is removed,
trim flush with wall
• Place all penetrations on the
pre-pour checklist
11. BEAM
POCKETS
• Use laser level to establish elevation
• Mark elevation on both sides of form
• Add ½” all around to beam dimension
• Cut opening thru both panels on 1 side
• Cut opening thru inside panel on opposite wall
• Brace both side to hold back concrete
• Secure with 2x lumber to cover two webs on each side
• Insert weld plate, if specified, after concrete is poured but workable
• Include depth of weld plate when measuring elevation
