Reference for Corinne Finnan
Corinne Finnan was a teacher at Weaverham High School from 1st September 1988 until 30th April
2012. For the vast majority of this period she occupied the post of Head of Modern Foreign Languages
which was a senior head of department within the school, responsible for the leadership of all teaching
of foreign languages. Ms Finnan decided to step down from this post in September 2010 in order to
concentrate on her own classroom teaching.
Ms Finnan is a very capable linguist. She has a very good knowledge of both French and Spanish and is
able to deliver lessons using a high proportion of target language. Throughout her time at the school
Ms Finnan has taught pupils from ages 11-16 and prepared a large number of pupils for their GCSE
examinations. Owing to the languages taught at the school this has been predominantly in the medium
of French.
Ms Finnan enjoys good relationships with colleagues. She has on a number of occasions contributed to
the school production making cameo appearances on stage. Throughout her time at Weaverham High
School Ms Finnan has been a form tutor for pupils aged 11-16, contributing to their pastoral support
and guidance. With her form group she engaged in a number of charity activities, many of which again
had a performing or singing element to them.
Following a spell of ill health, Ms Finnan decided to take early retirement in April 2012. In order to
support her recovery to full health, the school were happy to support that move.
