Mélissa TORCHENAUD,
Economist and Project Analyst, Ministry of Planning and External
Cooperation
‘‘Haïti Priorise’’ Conference, Port-au-Prince April 29 to May 3, 2017
2. Introduction
• Significant progress in terms of enrollment in Haiti
• School attendance rate: 50% (EMMUS 4) in 2005 and 77% in 2012 (EMMUS 5)
• However, out of 90% of children enrolled in primary school only 50%
complete primary school and much less complete secondary
education.
• A drop-out rate among girls, particularly among the poorest is still
high
• About 50% of rural girls drop out of school in the transition period from Grade
9 in primary school to Grade 1 in secondary school
• Girls' attendance at school: 70% (urban)
