Its important to remember: each call you make is a possible new client. Always be kind and
polite even if they are not. When making cold calls. The most possible chance for success will
always improve by the volume of calls you make. Each time you are declined, reflect and assess
what you could do differently or better. Look for the main reasons you were shut down.
Adjustment is necessary and think of new approaches even when you obtained a quote. Think of
what would leave little room for the potential client to say no. Clients have several ways to shut
you down. Here are some helpful tips to turn a “crash and burn”, to “cash you’ll earn”!.
1. When your possible new client answers the phone do your best to read their energy. If
they seem upbeat and relaxed match that tone as if you were in the same room and your
good friends. If they seem to be slow and tired sounding speak clear and remember to
enunciate.
2. Don’t rush what you're trying to say. The person on the other end can sense your rush
giving them thought you have been hung up on all day and have nothing to offer them.
3. When a hostile person answers the phone have no fear.! There is a way to handle that as
well. In this case you must be serious and direct “not” rude. You must express a tone
which suggest your doing a favor for him/her and he/she owes you.
People are not all the same so you can’t approach everyone with the same technique. When
dealing with older males in most cases they aren't looking to chit chat. In this case get to the
point as quick as possible but get there with finesse. Younger males depending on the tone you
sense its best to talk like your old pals. Don’t talk like you're selling something because, “your
not” you are providing. CONFIDENCE is and will be the most powerful tool you
will need. Not just for your current job but everything in life.
When speaking to an older woman be really sweet and soft spoken. This reminds them of a son
or grandson. Middle aged women or new mothers. These ladies are overwhelmed and rarely have
free time. Getting to the point fast is key but you must be precise and use proper language to give
the impression “its important”, “Your Important” !. Young women, are always reached better
with charm and an attitude that says; “I’m having fun at work and life is awesome!”.
CONFIDENCE!.. Calling commercial is no different. These tips can also be applied simply
because, people are people. These are just intended to be helpful tips. Try and develop a
technique that best works for you.
