European Commission consultation with SENSE members
The EU’s Green Deal is a call for everyone to work together to improve the economy and society towards a paradigm shift and to learn to respect the boundaries of our planet. This will require us to rethink our way of life, our habits and actions to protect our planet for future generations. The Commission is organising a public consultation on education for environmental sustainability. We want to hear the views of SENSE members and other eTwinning teachers interested in these topics!

2. Educate for a Sustainable Ocean
It is an urgent need to Change Behaviors to save the Ocean and all of Humanity.
● Because I know that a Healthier Humanity depends on a Healthier Ocean!
And our Ocean is sick…
● Because I know with sadness, that I don´t left to my grandchildren the same life ocean I
found when I born.
It´s Urgent to Act!
● Because I believe in the Value of Education in the training of Tomorrow Men.

3. Educate for a Sustainable Ocean
We propose activities with students in partnership with any organizations like:
● Escola Azul . Eco-Escolas
● SCIAENA . Fundação Oceano Azul
● IMVF . WWF
● Ocean Hub Portugal . Sustainable Ocean Alliance
● O OKEANOS
4. Educate for a Sustainable Ocean
What member teachers think
● Include ocean literacy in the students' study plan, as education is essential for the
change
● The greatest difficulty felt is that our group of teachers are overwhelmed with bureaucratic work
and feel tired. That's why they can't participate as they'd like.
● The curricular areas such as Personal and Social Training, Citizenship and Development and
Religious and Catholic Moral Education (EMRC), are the areas where teachers can explore this
sustainability issues, but as they do not enter the perspective of the global evaluation for the final
grade of access to higher education, are devalued.
5. Educate for a Sustainable Ocean
What student members think:
● Without the ocean we wouldn't live. The Ocean is one and belongs to all of us.
● Here in this space, we can share ideas on how to conserve and protect the ocean.
● I would like to develop more communication and means to reach the whole country.
● I would like to have an active voice or participate in Sustainability Debates at the European
Commission or some other Governmental or Non-Governmental Organization
● The biggest obstacle is the lack of time due to the tests and compulsory subjects in school.
