Collected process stream samples from ammonia and urea manufacturing plants and the water treatment plant.
Conducted analysis on samples to continually monitor the performance of operations and ensure compliance with
environmental regulations. Performed testing on urea products and GC analyses on ammonia plant process gases to
monitor efficiencies and ensure required specifications were met.
KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
Supported emission prevention efforts during plant upsets, shutdowns and start-ups through analytical support.
Introduced and successfully implemented a secondary containment system for laboratory chemicals.
Ensured water within plant process cooling systems was fit for use through effective monitoring of water treatment
samples.
NOVA CHEMICALS Calgary, AB 1993 - 2009
TECHNOLOGIST –PHYSICAL TEST LABORATORY, 2002 - 2009
Utilized processing techniques and laboratory equipment to produce laboratory evaluations of client samples,
complaints and competitor products. Prioritized tasks and managed scheduling of required work, ensuring completion
within stringent deadlines. Maintained consistency of lab results through calibration and maintenance of equipment,
updating of control charts and by regularly processing laboratory confidence limit samples. Performed testing on
polyethylene resins and products to determine strength properties. Acquired extensive Spill Response and First Aid
training as a 10 year member of the technical center’s Emergency Response Team.

Managed all aspects of laboratory involvement within the semi-annual ASTM Polyethylene Testing Proficiency
Program, including authoring technical reports which outlined findings.
Continuously authored, developed and revised laboratory test procedures and standard operating procedures.
Recognized for providing efficient and effective analysis while using advanced technical instruments.
TECHNOLOGIST –ANALYTICAL LABORATORY, 1993 - 2002
Performed analyses on polyethylene and polystyrene resins and products, determining levels of additives, extractables
and thermal properties. Conducted annual laboratory evaluations of selected resin grades to generate updated FDA and
European regulatorydata. Performed round robin testing to align Maleic Anhydride analysis results with the company’s
US Styrenics business. Developed digital presentations for use in technical seminars. Delivered training in extractables,
additives, thermal properties and styrenics testing to Technologists.
KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
Supported the development of the ASTM Hexane Extractables method which reduced the amount of hexane used
(nine fold), virtually eliminated associated emissions and reduced cycle time.
Commissioned a new Hexane Extractables bath which tripled sample throughput and improved repeatability and
reliability; optimized evaporation through modifications to the nitrogen delivery system.
Enabled clients to access historical data through establishment of a Hexane Extractables database (pre-Laboratory
Information Management System).
