Project
1. Project (cont.)
Carpet plots are used only for preliminary design
Type of fiber architecture and orientation used
Laminates are combination of 0°, 90°,±45
0 degree and 90 degree layers are included to give stiffness and strength in x and y direction and
±45 to give shear stiffness and strength
Ratios of the thickness of each layer are defined as
α=t0/t
β=t90/t
γ=t45/t
α+β+γ=1
we have eight laminates having the following orientation
Lamina no 4& 5 have the same theta and their thickness is t0=αt where t= total thickness, each is t0/2
lamina no. 3&6 have the same theta = 90deg and the same thickness t90=β*t , each is t90/2
lamina no 1,2,7&8 have the same thickness t±45=γ*t , each is t±45/4
Now we need to calculate A,B and D matrix for each lamina as they are different in orientation
Then calculate the total A, B and D matrix
Then we can calculate equivalent moduli of the laminate from the following equations
2. But these equations are valid only for inplane loads
for bending loads we can use these equations
Then we can change the thickness of laminas and plot this change with the equivalent moduli
and get the carpet plot of the lamina at different loading cases
