1. Hult Prize Background: Seven years ago, the Hult Prize Competition, a nonprofit
organization run by the Hult International Business School and the Clinton Global
Initiative, was launched to encourage up-and-coming social entrepreneurs to solve the
world’s biggest challenges. This year’s challenge is to double the income of ten million
people who live in urban crowded spaces by facilitating connections between people,
goods, services, and capital. The competition brings together undergraduate and graduate
students from all over the world to develop, pitch, and execute their social enterprise
ideas.
Our Idea: Green Spot: an urban composting facility and community garden benefit
corporation. Benefit corporations value people, planet, and profit. We care about our
impact and want to add value to all parts of society. Green Spot offers value to the
community in three ways: compost, garden, and the Food Baby. Our employees will be
people from the community doing the composting, gardening, and packaging. We are
specifically investing in the growth, health, and economy of a community by creating a
“green spot” in the community that seeks to increase access for employment for people,
reduce waste, and raise income and confidence. We hope to facilitate confidence and
inspiration in individuals to do more, become more empowered, and change the
community.
