Designing with Natural Light

The premise of this project was to design a building
based on the celestial position of the sun throughout
a year. The size of each space is determined by the
amount of sun received. The red area receives the most
sunlight, while the other areas receive the least sunlight.

The premise of this project was to design a building
on a constrained site (i.e., Marblehead Peninsula) in
Sandusky, OH. The program is a multi-use building
that includes the town hall, a performance venue
and office space. The orientation of the building is
positioned so the theater faces due west with a glare
protective curtain wall. During a performance,
occupants can witness the sunset over Sandusky
Bay.

The premise of this project was to design a building that would
provide food to people in downtown Chicago, IL, and provide the
same structural capacity of the existing retaining wall off of the
Chicago River. In addition, the building houses a cryogenic seed
bank in the subterranean levels. This site is located at the foot of
the IBM Building site, between State, Wacker and Wabash Streets.

In regards to the building design for the Seed Bank in Chicago,
the inspiration for the façade came from the systematic removal of
seed pods from the capsules based on their age. This façade gives
the sense of constant movement, which plays a pivotal role in the
seed removal process.
