Objectives To describe events and locations
To express preferences, likes, and dislikes
Activities & Strategies Pre-activities
1. T projects some of the suggested videos. APP CS
2. In their teams, SS orally discuss whether they have been to a musical, a concert, etc. *T may record SS’ discussions with APP CS > Microphone
Activities
3. In pairs, SS look at the pictures and take turns asking and answering the questions.
4. In groups, SS organize the list of ideas into a Mind Map. The Mind Map should include at least some branches: Events, Dates, Times, Prices, Necessary Equipment, etc.
5. In addition, teammates suggest some improvements using the Speaking Rubric at the end of the book.
6. In pairs, SS make plans to different events. They use role-play while they are talking.
Post-activities
7. SS present their conversation to the class. All groups should get a turn. APP CS > random
8. The class votes for the best plan. APP CS > stamp
9. SS create a music video with their favorite songs. To do this, T makes a quick survey to find the most popular songs among the SS and forms groups. In their groups, SS discuss
what they want to do: a part of the song, gestures, etc. *While SS are working in their groups, T projects Cooperative Group Rubric APP CS. It is important all SS are learn the lyrics

Session 5
Section A Look at the World
Pages 217, 317
M.I. IA, IE, VL, N
Minutes 40
Objectives To express preferences
To compare different festivals around the world
Activities & Strategies Pre-activities
1. With APP CS, T projects the pictures on p. 217 and asks SS: Do you know anything about these places? Can you describe each picture?
2. In their groups, SS read the text on p. 217 aloud. SS take notes in their portfolio folder including the main idea and details about the text.
3. T projects the Cooperative Group Rubric at the end of the book (p. 317) so SS can understand what an excellent product is and what they can improve.
4. T asks SS:
- How are they alike?
- How are they different?
Activities
5. T writes SS’ answers using APP CS > pencil to complete the Chart 2 projected with similarities and differences. The whole group classifies the differences in subgroups (i.e.:
with regard to place, to music style, to number of people attending, etc.).
6. In their group, SS make a Venn Diagram showing similarities and differences between the three festivals.
7. Then, SS compare it to another group’s diagram.
Post-activities
8. Each group decides which festival would be more fun to visit. The writer of the group writes a conclusion.
9. The groups share their decisions and reasons orally (answer questions in the first activity).
10. SS complete the Cooperative Group Rubric to evaluate themselves and their teammates.
11. If there is enough time, T uses the APP CS> random selector to choose a S to check the activity. For this, SS individually identify and order the festivals (use number one for
their favorite event and number three for the least liked). Then, all SS begin to stand up. T chooses one S to say the order he/she assigned to the events; SS will sit down if the
numbers are different from his/hers. If at the end of this S’s turn there is another S standing up, it’s because they agreed on everything. * They can repeat as many times as
they want, choosing a different S each turn.
* Self-Assessment: SS answer the Self-assessment questions at the bottom of the page.
