Christian Marchesi: Brief Profile
As a biologist I am experienced in scientific work, which I always tend to keep as practical as possible. Various excursions
to different ecosystems provided insights into numerous biological mechanisms and networks, which forms the basis of
my ecological understanding. During my practical and Diploma thesis I worked as a mediator between science and
public interest. Thanks to these tasks, I have become an experienced field engineer.
Since joining ETI I have been working within the scope of Hazardous Substances and I specifically concentrate on the
Management of PCB and Asbestos and Biological Pollutants, such as monitoring, sampling, consulting, training,
decontamination technologies and environmentally sound disposal. I have been responsible for several screening and
clean‐up projects in Switzerland. In 2013 and 2014, I was contracted by UNEP/MAP to provide practical training courses
in the correct handling and disposal of PCB wastes to local stakeholders in several Mediterranean Countries.
ETI represents Switzerland in the CENELEC BTTF‐116‐1 working group for European PCB standards. ETI is also member of
the SAET (Swiss Association of Environmental Technology) in Basle/Switzerland and the Swiss Occupational Health
Insurance Agency (Suva).
I have attended several specific seminars on general Pollutants as well as specific PCB and Asbestos Management. I have
also delivered lectures on contaminants including e.g. PCBs and specific biologic pollutants to companies and students.
Due to the complex topic of Hazardous Pollutants and their applications, I am still learning. I would like to share my
experience and opinions in order to find pragmatic solutions for specific projects.
ETI: Brief Company Profile
Environmental Technology International (ETI) was founded in 1982, and since its restructuration in 1986 it has been a
completely independent Swiss Company, owned by Urs K. Wagner. The company’s headquarters have been located in
own premises in Chur since 1991. It takes 1 ½ hours from Zurich to Chur, by train or car.
The backup of the ETI staff and infrastructure has become extremely useful during complex consultancy work.
ETI and its staff offer various services in the field of environmental issues. Our staff is well experienced in sampling on
site, screening as well as routine analysis. ETI closely co‐operates with the competent authorities and is recognised as
a specialised company for PCB Management worldwide.
In Switzerland ETI has also been consulted after major PCB and Dioxin incidents and was part of the Swiss Federal task
force for “PCB in open applications”. ETI is one of the leading specialists for PCB and Asbestos consultancy, as well as
the planning of clean‐up projects. Some ETI specialists focus on biological contaminants and harmful construction
material in general.
ETI monitors, plans and supervises the professional clean‐up and decontamination of contaminated private and public
buildings. Buildings like schools or apartment buildings often contain PCBs in open applications (for example in caulks
and paints) as well as other contaminants, for example Asbestos, PBB, short chained CPs, PAH but also Radon and many
more. Site surveys and clean‐up projects have been successfully performed in many Swiss cities; and various projects
are still going on.
Competent advising on manifold areas in the environmental technology constitutes an important task in the daily job of
the ETI staff. Our commitment and our engagement entail offering sustainable PCB and/or Asbestos Management of
highest quality and precision.

Urs K. Wagner – ETI Switzerland - Curriculum Vitae (01/2011) 3
We focus on explaining facts to customers by means of “capacity building”. Flexible adaptation to the specific situation
and needs of a region or a country guarantees maximum results and content. Thanks to our 32 years of expertise we
have gained a top position, which allows us to share ETI’s philosophy and to present the fundamentals and principles of
the Stockholm, Basel and Rotterdam Conventions.
Our daily work is geared toward optimizing environmental and human living circumstances and our staff gets the
opportunity to express our commitment and explain of our achievements in various courses, trainings and workshops.
Our services include consulting, training on the job, capacity building, analysis in our laboratory and in the fields,
screening for organic and inorganic hazardous substances, historical and technical investigation and risk assessment,
supervising sites during decontamination, dismantling and disposal processes, workshops on the practical use of the
guidelines on best available techniques (BAT) and best environmental practices (BEP), hazardous waste management,
environmentally sound management (ESM) of POPS wastes and specifically PCBs, and not to forget public relations.
