Scope of Work
Mr. Safford, while working at AMEC Environment &
Infrastructure, provided design services and construction
phase services at Peterson Air Force Base, located in Colorado Springs, Colorado, for the U.S. Air Force US Air Force Civil
Engineering Support Agency (AFCESA). Mr. Safford designed and constructed a potable waterline to create a redundant
distribution loop for the water supply system located in the eastern portion of Peterson AFB known as “PETE East”.
Services Provided
The project consists of two separate segments of new 12-
inch PVC and 6-inch ductile iron water pipe to complete a
distribution loop. The first section connects the main
base with the 16-inch water supply line to PETE East. The
second section connects the East Gate to Peterson AFB
with the furthest southern extent of PETE East. The client
proposed alignment included numerous utility crossings
and several storm sewer and street crossings. Mr. Safford
recommended a realignment that not only reduced the
number of crossings, but shortened the total water main
length from 12,700 feet to 11,700 feet (8% reduction).
This fast-tracked project was taken through 100% design
in approximately 16 weeks. Construction was started in
February 2008 and the project was completed in July
2009. In addition to the design tasks, Mr. Safford was
responsible for field engineering and construction
oversight. Due to his presents in the field, discovered
utilities and other construction restraints were quickly
resolved to reduce or eliminate work shut downs and
cost overruns.
