Perrysburg High School junior Chloey Sniecinski
had the idea and organized this "Woofstock" event
to benefit the Toledo Area Humane Society.
On Wednesday, the young Sniecinski, now a junior, brought
Woofstock back. This time it's benefiting the Toledo Area
Humane Society.
"I'm so excited," she said about a good student turnout to the
event. "I love seeing all these faces. I don't even know some of
the freshmen and sophomores. It's great to see everyone
involved."
Dozens of students from different clubs stuffed empty water
bottles in socks to create homemade dog toys. Other toys were
created, and parents also brought dog food and treats.
Last year, the first year of the event, 250 toys for the dogs were
brought in. She was hoping for 400 this year.
The Toledo Area Humane Society came out to give a speech to
the students, and also brought a German Shepherd puppy named Joshua.
"We have 5,000 animals every year so the donation of toys for our pets and beds is really welcomed," said
Kelle Pack, the development director for the Toledo Area Humane Society. "Its unique to see this many young
people help out to take care of animals."
Sandra Farbrother volunteers at the humane society and was holding Joshua before adoring students.
"The toys give dogs extra enrichment and it helps," she said. "It helps give them entertainment and the are in a
kennel for the majority of the time. When they get toys, they understand they're not alone."
Dawn Burks, a high school counselor and Key Club adviser, said this second year of Woofstock had much
more involvement.
"It's a neat idea that she created," Ms. Burks said of Sniecinski. "She is passionate about the animals and wants
to give back."
