WORK EXPEREINCE
Sports Activator: Chester Students’ Union (September 2014 – March 2015)
I was responsible for providing opportunities for students from minority demographics to
engage in sport and physical activity, through starting and running various clubs. This involved
managing the logistics, including location and coaching, as well as supervision of coaches
and recording participation data. This short term government grant initiative had set targets
which were not only met, but were exceeded.
Leisure Attendant: Medina Leisure Centre (December 2013 – June 2014)
My responsibility was to organise and lead children’s sports activity sessions. I coached and
officiated numerous sports and activities to increase the children’s sporting repertoire;
requiring excellent communication with children and parents alike to ensure everyone was
aware of what was expected of them. Outside of the sessions, I assisted with general running
of the centre, including working on the front desk.
Volunteer Researcher: Cheshire East Council (October 2013 – June 2014)
I was part of a team of students analysing participation motives for members of a Nordic
Walking initiative, aged 55+, organised by Cheshire East Council. My role was in the
development stage, constructing various methods of qualitative data collection, including
questionnaires and interviews. After our successful development of data collection tools we
passed them onto the research team for data collection and analysis.
Volunteer Sports Coach: Isle of Wight Special Olympics (February 2007 – June 2011)
My role focused on planning, organising and delivering coaching sessions for athletes with
disabilities, including travelling to and from competitions. This meant engaging with other
athletes and coaches to ensure every session was as effective as possible. This role required
an application of knowledge and experience in coaching during the sessions, whilst remaining
professional outside the sessions.
INTERESTS AND HOBBIES
I relish in challenging myself to become better in everything I do, hence why I have completed
Tough Mudder for three consecutive years. There is something to be said about being able
to push oneself to the limit, especially when surrounded by friends. To that extent I am a keen
advocate of health and fitness, particularly CrossFit. I make the most of the time I get to spend
with my friends by doing activities such as playing sports, having days out, and competing in
pub quizzes. I have also played the bass guitar since 2007 and am a member of a local jazz
band, with whom I often perform in public at events.
