This is for adjectives that have only 1
syllable:
tall young
short old
sweet smart
green

Add -er to the end of the adjective.
tall --- taller young --- younger
short --- shorter old --- older
sweet --- sweeter smart --- smarter
green --- greener

30. Note: If an adjective is a closed
syllable that ends in 1 consonant, you
must double the consonant before
adding –er.

For 2-syllable adjectives that do NOT
end in –y: Write “more” in front of the
adjectives.
