How To Find That Elusive Balance Between Work and Life
"Balance is beautiful." – Miyoko Ohno, Japanese bridge designer
Article by Leo Babauta
I have a close friend named Norm who is a great photographer and a great person in general ... recently he was telling me that all he does is work.
That might sound familiar to some of you – I've certainly been there at different points in my life, although these days I have to say that I've found a
pretty good balance between all the important things in my life, including work, family, and other things I'm interested in.
Norm asked me to write a post about work–life balance, because although I think Norm is pretty happy with his life, he's interested in expanding his
life beyond work. I think...show more content...
Finding That Balance
Once you've created space in your life for the things you love, it's just a matter of finding the right balance between them. You could have a life filled
with all the things you love doing, but it could still be almost all work. While there's certainly nothing wrong with that if you love your work and it
doesn't have negative consequences (on your health or family relationships, for example), for many people it's better to have other things balancing out
their lives.
Why is a balance between several things that you love better than just one thing that you love? Well, there are a number of reasons that would depend
on your situation. For one thing, if you have an office job you might not be getting outdoors enough, or getting enough exercise, and your health might
suffer. Another reason is that you might have family and/or friends and if you work all the time you're neglecting them– and those relationships will
suffer. You might also get lonely if you work all the time. Another major problem is burnout– working all the time (or doing any activity all the time)
can lead to stress and fatigue, and could make that activity less enjoyable.
Variety isa good thing – it keeps life interesting. So mix things up a bit. Here are some ideas for doing that: * Schedule time blocks. This is good for
those who use their calendar a lot or can stick to schedules well. Schedule chunks of time throughout your week

Reflection Paper On Work Life Balance
For this reflection paper, the topic I have chosen to cover relates to work–life balance. Work–life balance, to me, is extremely important when it comes
to a job, mostly because of how important my family and loved ones are to me. If I had to choose between a job with high pay, but barely any
work–life balance, and one with lower pay, but fairly good work–life policies in place, I would choose the latter. That being said, I have chosen this
topic to work on because of how strongly I feel about it. Over the course of this reflection paper, I will be discussing several issues relating to the topic
on work–life balance. I will first be touching on how work–life policies and organizational performance relate to each other, as well as the trade–offs
involved in the implementation of work–life policies. Finally, I will be examining how the gap between the differing expectations of employees and
employers relate to how successful work–life policies can be. Firstly, contrary to the believes of some companies, effective work–life balance policies
can improve organizational performance through the improvement of employee performance. All organizations constantly seek to perform better, but
not all organizations feel that effective work–life balance policies would add value to their organizational performance. This is an important issue
because organizations that fail to recognize the link between effective work–life policies and organizational performance could subsequently run into

Work Life Balance
Work–life balance entails a proper prioritizing between "work" ( primarily career and aspirations ) and "lifestyle" ( pertaining to leisure, health, family
and personal development ) activities. Of late, the organizations have come to realize the importance of work–life balance to improve productivity. The
research by Kenexa Research Institute (2007) showed that the companies genuinely inclined towards efforts to support work–life balance in an
organization indicated much lesser turnover, greater pride in the brand of the organization and the willingness to give the extra bit to work. It also
indicated greater job satisfaction and recommendations to peers about...show more content...

employees. Today, the work–life benefits have switched from company cars, significant bonuses, and other perks to employee fitness centers and
dry–cleaning services. Now work–life balance programs are in place as "Recession Perks" according to Challenger Gray and Christmas, Inc.3 Many
corporations can no longer afford the monetary compensation they were handing out in the 1990's. But with layoffs commonplace, these companies are
looking to use their inexpensive "Recession Perks" as tools to build loyalty and encourage teamwork and camaraderie with coworkers. Through these
benefits, along with the traditional programs such as insurance and retirement plans, managing the remaining workforce after layoffs is vital. When the
struggling economy turns around, the remaining employees will be responsible for bringing their respective companies "back to life", and back to a
competitive force. Some of the more prevalent work–life programs listed above are discussed in more details below: Work Hours America currently

"life" (Health, pleasure, leisure, family and spiritual development) on the other. Related, though broader, terms include "lifestyle balance" and "life

Research by Kenexa Research Institute shows that those employees who were more favorable toward their organization's efforts to support work–life
balance also indicated a much lower intent to leave the organization, greater pride in their organization, a willingness to recommend it as a place to
work and higher overall job satisfaction. Employers can offer a range of different programs and initiatives, such as flexible working arrangements in
the form of part time, casual and telecommuting work. More proactive employers can provide compulsory leave, strict maximum hours and foster an
environment that encourages employees not to continue working after hours. It is generally only highly skilled workers that can enjoy such benefits as
written in their contracts, although many professional fields would not go so far as to discourage workaholic behaviour. Unskilled workers will almost
always have to rely on bare minimum legal requirements. The legal requirements are low in many countries, in particular, the United States. In contrast,
the European Union has gone quite far in assuring a legal work–life balance framework, for example pertaining to parental leave and the
non–discrimination of part–time workers. Helping Employees Maintain Work/Life Balance Helping your employees maintain

Emerging Trends: Work–Life Balance Is the New Perk Employees Are Seeking
Today's business world is constantly evolving, technology is improving exponentially and international business relations are a necessity for global
companies to function. This is an amazing time we live in, society is fortunate that technology has enabled interaction across the globe. This
communication technology also comes with challenges to maintain an acceptable level of balance between work and personal time management.

Sales force and regional service managers are examples of jobs that require remote work to cover territories. Team members that are on conference
calls most of the day or work in global roles covering different time zones should not have to sit in an office for this activity. Covering different
international time zones are challenging, having flexible hours is important to avoid burnout for these positions. For example, a Supply Chain
professional or clinical trial manager may have projects going on across the US, Canada, Europe and Asia. A person in this type of position needs to
manage multiple time zones and demonstrate flexibility to take turns with off hour meeting calls.
Positions that are less likely to afford flexibility are those requiring physical attention or deliverables; such as manufacturing operators, quality control,
technical or lab related positions. Also for those that may not be proficient in their role or lack the self–discipline to focus when working from home.
In my opinion, the intensive use of self–managed teams makes it more difficult for employees to achieve work–life balance. My old company is going
through transitions to this self–managed team model. Team members find collaboration reduced and competition increased in this particular
environment. The uncertainty and mistrust is driving people to feel obligated to be at the office for visibility to what is being

Work Life Balance
1.Introduction Work–life balance is defined as the ability to prioritize between work and a personal life to achieve what the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention describes as total worker health. It is simply balancing a career with leisurely and pleasure–inducing activities, such as
exercising, spending time with family and friends, and enjoying the things that make one happiest (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015).
However, work–life balance is more complicated than the aforementioned description; work–life balance has become a topic of focus in the U.S. as
Americans continue to fail to balance their lives between the two realms. Peer–reviewed publications and popular media alike have reported that when
work and home lives aren't coordinated or harmonious, individuals tend to be sicker, unhappier, and less productive in both realities (Organization for
Economic Cooperation and Development, 2015). 2.Literature Review Current literature suggests that work–life balance is an emerging challenge in
today's society (Fleetwood, 2007; Grawitch et al., 2015). Work–life balance is a major factor in workplace stress (Antai, D et al., 2015; Munir et al.,
2012), as majority of people spend more waking hours at work (8 hours per day) than at home. This fact makes the need for a positive work
environment increasingly important. Literature emphasizes that working in a positive work environment, with flexible hours and expectations, is
correlated with stress

Work Life Balance In The Workplace
As more women enter the workforce and fathers have become more involved in raising their families the need for work life balance has become a
necessity in the job force. In terms of the forces that are promoting work–life balance they benefit from flexible work schedules, more time with their
families. According to the Reed.co.Uk website there are five benefits for employees of a work life balance, these include, "your health and well being
will improve, you will be more productive, you can enjoy work, you have more time for yourself, and you will not miss out on family time"
(Reed.co.uk, 2017). In respect to the forces that resist work–life balance programs Harvey points out that "When work–life balance issues are not
addressed there can be organizational costs." (Harvey & Allard, p. 338). When the programs are implemented in the workplace companies will see "a
return investment of 3$ to 4$ in the work house saved, insurance cost, sick leave, decreased absenteeism and fewer on–the job inquiries." ( Harvey &
Allard p. 339). The company becomes more desirable for potential applicants as well as improves the retention rate.
2.As pointed out by Harvey and Allard "Work–life as a diversity issue results from changing gender roles." (Harvey & Allard, p. 339). However, Men
still feel that their roles in the family are to provide. They feel that when it comes to the work life balance there is no flexibility as it is their job to
earn the living in the household. As

Work Balance : Work Life Balance
Work Life Balance Work life balance is the balance between work and your personal/ family time (Gomez
–Mejia, Balkin, & Cardy, 2012). In the past
this balance was hard to come by and companies did not help aid in the balance. However, in recent years this has changed. Studies have shown
that in medium to large companies, 79% offer flexible schedules of some sort (Leslie, Park, Mehng, & Manchester, 2012). Work life balance is
something that both employees and employers seek as it creates more productive employee in most cases. Case In the case brought to us in the
text, it gave us two examples of employees seeking work life balance. The first example is a man that has risen in the ranks at his company.
Instead of having less working as he had thought, he faced much longer work hours with very little time with his family. In the second example a
woman is looking at changing companies and in her negotiations she negotiates items such as a flexible work schedule. Although this option works
well for the women it does not work for every employee. Flexible Jobs Not all jobs are well suited for flexibility with work hours and location.
However, there are a lot of jobs that can handle flexibility. Any kind of job that does not have a steady interaction with clients in person would be a
good candidate. These kind of jobs might include accountants, IT personnel or other jobs that require minimum client interaction and most time is
spent working alone. There is an

College Admissions Essay: Work Life Balance
Work Life Balance Ha! Who would?ve thought that I of all people would be blogging about work life balance. I constantly feel as though I have a
million things on my plate and that I?m struggling to keep up. Through my participation in clubs, work, and school, my mind is constantly worrying
about something. My go–go–go mentality has been like this for about a year now, and I need a change ASAP. It?s to the point where I?m sacrificing
my own mental sanity for my jobs and schoolwork. Let?s start off with a good ol? example. This summer I got an internship at an advertising and
branding agency, which is my dream job! I was so excited to have gotten this position because I?ll be learning the skills that I will be using in the
future. However, this internship ain?t bringing in the big bucks, which I quickly realized. I already bartend on the weekends, but that?s only one or
two days a week. So, I began searching for a third job and finally ended up with a serving job. Within a couple days of school ending, I started my
serving job and internship. I had a total of 1 day of actual summer break before being busy...show more content...
Jumping from finals to putting in over 55 hours per week was wayyy too much for my brain to handle. I should have lessened my commitment and
started working later in the summer. This way I could?ve gotten a few more days of freedom to be with my friends in the moment. However, I
have made a few changes in the past week, which has already made a huge impact on my wellbeing and general state of mind. Although I still have
lots going on, I found ways to relax and destress so that I can actually enjoy my summer. I made a quick list of everything that has helped me find my
work life balance, which I would like to share with you all. Of course, this list is far from perfect or all–encapsulating, but it?s the tips that helped me
out the most! With that being said, enjoy

Work Of Work Life Balance Essay
Introduction In today's work arena, work life balance can be defined as the balance between one's career, and personal development. The key
definitions illustrate how efficiently, people can carry on their endeavors, without compromising their work. Work can be taxing at times and, people
may engage in their job responsibilities, in such a way that they have little or no time to do non–work activities (Allen, 2015). The notion of work–life
balance is gauged through an individual's investment of time into work–related tasks. In my experience and knowledge, work life balance is measured
by how capable one is, in engaging in personal, recreational activities in a manner that do not take away from one's work productivity, while
performing optimally at this job. Identifying the Need Work–life balance is imperative to adhere to for all working professionals to avoid burnout or an
induced level of stress. Excessive workloads and the feeling of being burned out can translate in other areas such as one's overall health. In my
experience, I have witnessed several employees request a leave of absence due to an enormous level of pressure they feel always to be "on."
Inefficiency and social forces are direct resultants from a work–life imbalance. In today's workforce employers have implemented several kinds of
flexible working arrangements to counteract the overexertion employees tend to exhibit. Kinds of Flexible Working TypeDiscussion FlextimeHere,

In the recent Indian scenario as experienced by hospitality employees, the ageing employee population also expressed a need for work–life balance, so
as to maintain their financial needs and become independent. These employees belong to generation X who gives preference to the balance
between work and family lives. (Patton, 2009). However the new generation or in other words generation Y considers and values job security, job
commitment and job satisfaction as valuable variables of a job. Generation Y also expresses a sheer need for work life balance in order to deal with
internal and external work pressures. It has also been noticed that the thinking patterns and behavioral approaches of generation Y are more complex
and diverse as compared to the employees of generation X. Another author (Jeff and Juliette 2007), proposed that employees do influence work–life
balance issues in the financial service sector and that work–life balance initiatives had greater approach and quality where independent unions were
recognized. In all cases, however, the amount of departure from minimal constitutional levels of condition was not great. (Jennifer and Susan 2010) in

The Essential Guide to Work–life Balance Essentially work–life balance is about helping employees better managing their work and non–work time. A
number of policies can facilitate this by reducing hours (e.g. part–time, job–share); changing when hours are worked (e.g. compressed working week,
flex–time, term–time working); where hours are worked (e.g. home working); or providing periods of paid or unpaid leave (e.g. compassionate
leave, parental leave, study leave, career break). Appropriate balance and the means of getting there depends on individual and business needs. Work

Workplace Diversity and Work/Life Balance Essay
Organizational behavior is a field of study that investigates the impact that individuals, groups and structures have on behavior within an organization
for the purpose of applying such knowledge towards improving an organization's effectiveness. Organizational behavior is dependent upon many
variables. It incorporates many areas of study such as psychology, sociology and anthropology. These disciplines are important in trying to manage

Much of the issue with workplace diversity stems from the fear of individuals that their co–workers are different or unlike them. This proves to make
communication and staffing difficult for managers as it is important to not hurt anyone's feelings or promote any kind of discrimination. To aid in
preventing discrimination, managers must first understand their own, preconceived notions and work to not judge others based on those thoughts; it
is important for managers and senior leadership to lead by example. An example of a possible preconceived notion could be that older employees
are slower producers and perhaps incapable of learning new processes and technologies. The previous statement is not true, in fact on the contrary,
older workers have a strong work ethic and bring a wealth of experience to the workplace. Additionally, older employees are less likely to quit their
jobs and have a lower rate of absenteeism (Robbins). Overcoming workplace diversity challenges can bring exciting opportunities for an organization.
By incorporating and striving to hire different ethnicities, businesses can broaden their services globally. If a company can keep the lines of

Work Life Balance : Myth Or Reality? Essay
Work–Life Balance: Myth or Reality?
The period of the mid–nineteenth century to the dawn of the twentieth century is characterized by a patriarchal society and female dependence, with
women struggling to attain social equality. Women, who were previously unable to hold dominant positions in society, have now become active
participants in all aspects of modern life. Society today has started recognizing the individual identity of women. She is believed to have her
aspirations, abilities and qualities. It is also agreed that she should have the opportunities to develop her faculties and express them according to her
own choice. However, the difficulties women are facing nowadays in balancing work and family cannot be left unnoticed. Women nowadays confront
more challenges in juggling parenthood, career and personal growth because of the gender role imposed on them, the lack of the accommodation at the
workplace, and views regarding women's biological and emotional biases that prevent them from success in professional arena. As a result of these
challenges, women sacrifice– it is difficult to have it all. Support for feminism is on the rise in today's world, particularly in the corporate world.
Despite this, there are still countless women forced to make personal sacrifices for corporate success.
In today's era, women's activities and interests are being acknowledged in scholarly and cultural fields. They have demanded their equal standing in the

Work life balance was about the interaction between paid work and other activities, including the unpaid work in the family, community, and personal

Work life balance helps you assess your current balance and provides tools for planning and making at the working place. (Hawks,2008).
Was it true that the work life balance was that important in work?.
Definition
Work life balance was not about having one that fit all. Employees of any age and gender might need different understanding and flexibilities when
developing a work life balance. In an example when there was a husband and wife at work, who will care for their child? Who will work overtime and
deserved a break time?.
Many regard the ways in which paid work could be combined or balanced with other part of life as an individual concern and a small, rather than self
indulgent problem in today's world. (Gambles,R,Lewis.2006). People think that work life balance term was in appropriate at all, they might think that
balance didn't mean equal amount. If there was about to measure about two things and tried to make it balanced, it'll most likely need to place the
different quantities of each item on the respective pans. Others may think that work life balance was already outdated, it was only a concept.
Nowadays, they were likely to

Work And Life Balance

  • 1. Work and Life Balance How To Find That Elusive Balance Between Work and Life "Balance is beautiful." – Miyoko Ohno, Japanese bridge designer Article by Leo Babauta I have a close friend named Norm who is a great photographer and a great person in general ... recently he was telling me that all he does is work. That might sound familiar to some of you – I've certainly been there at different points in my life, although these days I have to say that I've found a pretty good balance between all the important things in my life, including work, family, and other things I'm interested in. Norm asked me to write a post about work–life balance, because although I think Norm is pretty happy with his life, he's interested in expanding his life beyond work. I think...show more content... Finding That Balance Once you've created space in your life for the things you love, it's just a matter of finding the right balance between them. You could have a life filled with all the things you love doing, but it could still be almost all work. While there's certainly nothing wrong with that if you love your work and it doesn't have negative consequences (on your health or family relationships, for example), for many people it's better to have other things balancing out their lives. Why is a balance between several things that you love better than just one thing that you love? Well, there are a number of reasons that would depend on your situation. For one thing, if you have an office job you might not be getting outdoors enough, or getting enough exercise, and your health might suffer. Another reason is that you might have family and/or friends and if you work all the time you're neglecting them– and those relationships will suffer. You might also get lonely if you work all the time. Another major problem is burnout– working all the time (or doing any activity all the time) can lead to stress and fatigue, and could make that activity less enjoyable. Variety isa good thing – it keeps life interesting. So mix things up a bit. Here are some ideas for doing that: * Schedule time blocks. This is good for those who use their calendar a lot or can stick to schedules well. Schedule chunks of time throughout your week Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Reflection Paper On Work Life Balance For this reflection paper, the topic I have chosen to cover relates to work–life balance. Work–life balance, to me, is extremely important when it comes to a job, mostly because of how important my family and loved ones are to me. If I had to choose between a job with high pay, but barely any work–life balance, and one with lower pay, but fairly good work–life policies in place, I would choose the latter. That being said, I have chosen this topic to work on because of how strongly I feel about it. Over the course of this reflection paper, I will be discussing several issues relating to the topic on work–life balance. I will first be touching on how work–life policies and organizational performance relate to each other, as well as the trade–offs involved in the implementation of work–life policies. Finally, I will be examining how the gap between the differing expectations of employees and employers relate to how successful work–life policies can be. Firstly, contrary to the believes of some companies, effective work–life balance policies can improve organizational performance through the improvement of employee performance. All organizations constantly seek to perform better, but not all organizations feel that effective work–life balance policies would add value to their organizational performance. This is an important issue because organizations that fail to recognize the link between effective work–life policies and organizational performance could subsequently run into Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The research by Kenexa Research Institute (2007) showed that the companies genuinely inclined towards efforts to support work–life balance in an organization indicated much lesser turnover, greater pride in the brand of the organization and the willingness to give the extra bit to work. Human Resources Dept, Dr. Parsons Georgia Institute of Technology Prepared by: Sunil Joshi, John Leichne, Keith Melanson, Cristina Pruna, Nicolai Sager, Cathi Jo Story, Kevin Williams WORK–LIFE BALANCE 1 INTRODUCTION The role of work has changed throughout the world due to economic conditions and social demands. Originally, work was a matter of necessity and survival. Throughout the years, the role of "work" has evolved and the composition of the workforce has changed. Today, work still is a necessity but it should be a source of personal satisfaction as well. One of the vehicles to help provide attainment of personal...show more content... I do not see them going away." In the heart of the Internet bubble, work–life balance programs were an added bonus to attract and retain quality employees. Today, the work–life benefits have switched from company cars, significant bonuses, and other perks to employee fitness centers and dry–cleaning services. Now work–life balance programs are in place as "Recession Perks" according to Challenger Gray and Christmas, Inc.3 Many corporations can no longer afford the monetary compensation they were handing out in the 1990's. But with layoffs commonplace, these companies are looking to use their inexpensive "Recession Perks" as tools to build loyalty and encourage teamwork and camaraderie with coworkers. Through these benefits, along with the traditional programs such as insurance and retirement plans, managing the remaining workforce after layoffs is vital. When the struggling economy turns around, the remaining employees will be responsible for bringing their respective companies "back to life", and back to a competitive force. Some of the more prevalent work–life programs listed above are discussed in more details below: Work Hours America currently legally limits non–exempt workers from working more than 40 hours a week without additional compensation. • 5. Work Life Balance & HR PERSPECTIVE Presented By:– Kumar Lav SBS 932129 PGDM (HR) – IV SEM "If you are losing your leisure, look out; you may be losing your soul", Logan P.Smith. Work –life balance is a broad concept including proper prioritizing between "work" (career and ambition) on one hand and "life" (Health, pleasure, leisure, family and spiritual development) on the other. Related, though broader, terms include "lifestyle balance" and "life balance". History The expression was first used in the late 1970s to describe the balance between an individual 's work and personal life. In the United States, this phrase was first used in 1986....show more content... Research by Kenexa Research Institute shows that those employees who were more favorable toward their organization's efforts to support work–life balance also indicated a much lower intent to leave the organization, greater pride in their organization, a willingness to recommend it as a place to work and higher overall job satisfaction. Employers can offer a range of different programs and initiatives, such as flexible working arrangements in the form of part time, casual and telecommuting work. More proactive employers can provide compulsory leave, strict maximum hours and foster an environment that encourages employees not to continue working after hours. It is generally only highly skilled workers that can enjoy such benefits as written in their contracts, although many professional fields would not go so far as to discourage workaholic behaviour. Unskilled workers will almost always have to rely on bare minimum legal requirements. The legal requirements are low in many countries, in particular, the United States. In contrast, the European Union has gone quite far in assuring a legal work–life balance framework, for example pertaining to parental leave and the non–discrimination of part–time workers. Emerging Trends : Work Life Balance Emerging Trends: Work–Life Balance Is the New Perk Employees Are Seeking Today's business world is constantly evolving, technology is improving exponentially and international business relations are a necessity for global companies to function. This is an amazing time we live in, society is fortunate that technology has enabled interaction across the globe. This communication technology also comes with challenges to maintain an acceptable level of balance between work and personal time management. Team members that are on conference calls most of the day or work in global roles covering different time zones should not have to sit in an office for this activity. Covering different international time zones are challenging, having flexible hours is important to avoid burnout for these positions. For example, a Supply Chain professional or clinical trial manager may have projects going on across the US, Canada, Europe and Asia. A person in this type of position needs to manage multiple time zones and demonstrate flexibility to take turns with off hour meeting calls. Positions that are less likely to afford flexibility are those requiring physical attention or deliverables; such as manufacturing operators, quality control, technical or lab related positions. Also for those that may not be proficient in their role or lack the self–discipline to focus when working from home. In my opinion, the intensive use of self–managed teams makes it more difficult for employees to achieve work–life balance. My old company is going through transitions to this self–managed team model. Team members find collaboration reduced and competition increased in this particular environment. The uncertainty and mistrust is driving people to feel obligated to be at the office for visibility to what is being Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Work Life Balance 1.Introduction Work–life balance is defined as the ability to prioritize between work and a personal life to achieve what the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention describes as total worker health. It is simply balancing a career with leisurely and pleasure–inducing activities, such as exercising, spending time with family and friends, and enjoying the things that make one happiest (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015). However, work–life balance is more complicated than the aforementioned description; work–life balance has become a topic of focus in the U.S. as Americans continue to fail to balance their lives between the two realms. Peer–reviewed publications and popular media alike have reported that when work and home lives aren't coordinated or harmonious, individuals tend to be sicker, unhappier, and less productive in both realities (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, 2015). 2.Literature Review Current literature suggests that work–life balance is an emerging challenge in today's society (Fleetwood, 2007; Grawitch et al., 2015). Work–life balance is a major factor in workplace stress (Antai, D et al., 2015; Munir et al., 2012), as majority of people spend more waking hours at work (8 hours per day) than at home. This fact makes the need for a positive work environment increasingly important. Literature emphasizes that working in a positive work environment, with flexible hours and expectations, is correlated with stress Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Work Life Balance In The Workplace As more women enter the workforce and fathers have become more involved in raising their families the need for work life balance has become a necessity in the job force. In terms of the forces that are promoting work–life balance they benefit from flexible work schedules, more time with their families. According to the Reed.co.Uk website there are five benefits for employees of a work life balance, these include, "your health and well being will improve, you will be more productive, you can enjoy work, you have more time for yourself, and you will not miss out on family time" (Reed.co.uk, 2017). In respect to the forces that resist work–life balance programs Harvey points out that "When work–life balance issues are not addressed there can be organizational costs." (Harvey & Allard, p. 338). When the programs are implemented in the workplace companies will see "a return investment of 3$ to 4$ in the work house saved, insurance cost, sick leave, decreased absenteeism and fewer on–the job inquiries." ( Harvey & Allard p. 339). The company becomes more desirable for potential applicants as well as improves the retention rate. 2.As pointed out by Harvey and Allard "Work–life as a diversity issue results from changing gender roles." (Harvey & Allard, p. 339). However, Men still feel that their roles in the family are to provide. They feel that when it comes to the work life balance there is no flexibility as it is their job to earn the living in the household. As Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Work Balance : Work Life Balance Work Life Balance Work life balance is the balance between work and your personal/ family time (Gomez –Mejia, Balkin, & Cardy, 2012). In the past this balance was hard to come by and companies did not help aid in the balance. However, in recent years this has changed. Studies have shown that in medium to large companies, 79% offer flexible schedules of some sort (Leslie, Park, Mehng, & Manchester, 2012). Work life balance is something that both employees and employers seek as it creates more productive employee in most cases. Case In the case brought to us in the text, it gave us two examples of employees seeking work life balance. The first example is a man that has risen in the ranks at his company. Instead of having less working as he had thought, he faced much longer work hours with very little time with his family. In the second example a woman is looking at changing companies and in her negotiations she negotiates items such as a flexible work schedule. Although this option works well for the women it does not work for every employee. Flexible Jobs Not all jobs are well suited for flexibility with work hours and location. However, there are a lot of jobs that can handle flexibility. Any kind of job that does not have a steady interaction with clients in person would be a good candidate. These kind of jobs might include accountants, IT personnel or other jobs that require minimum client interaction and most time is spent working alone. There is an Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. College Admissions Essay: Work Life Balance Work Life Balance Ha! Who would?ve thought that I of all people would be blogging about work life balance. I constantly feel as though I have a million things on my plate and that I?m struggling to keep up. Through my participation in clubs, work, and school, my mind is constantly worrying about something. My go–go–go mentality has been like this for about a year now, and I need a change ASAP. It?s to the point where I?m sacrificing my own mental sanity for my jobs and schoolwork. Let?s start off with a good ol? example. This summer I got an internship at an advertising and branding agency, which is my dream job! I was so excited to have gotten this position because I?ll be learning the skills that I will be using in the future. However, this internship ain?t bringing in the big bucks, which I quickly realized. I already bartend on the weekends, but that?s only one or two days a week. So, I began searching for a third job and finally ended up with a serving job. Within a couple days of school ending, I started my serving job and internship. I had a total of 1 day of actual summer break before being busy...show more content... Jumping from finals to putting in over 55 hours per week was wayyy too much for my brain to handle. I should have lessened my commitment and started working later in the summer. This way I could?ve gotten a few more days of freedom to be with my friends in the moment. However, I have made a few changes in the past week, which has already made a huge impact on my wellbeing and general state of mind. Although I still have lots going on, I found ways to relax and destress so that I can actually enjoy my summer. I made a quick list of everything that has helped me find my work life balance, which I would like to share with you all. Of course, this list is far from perfect or all–encapsulating, but it?s the tips that helped me out the most! With that being said, enjoy Get more content on HelpWriting.net
