  2. 2. Mrs. Mendilow <ul><li>Mrs. Mendilow started Yad LaKashish in 1962. Yad LaKashish means “ Lifeline for the Old”. Yad LaKashish is a program in Jerusalem for elderly people to come work and get paid for creating art projects for the gift shop to sell. </li></ul>
  3. 3. History <ul><li>Mrs. Mendilow knew she wanted to help people, but was not sure how. One day, when she was walking in the streets, she heard a woman crying “ I’m starving, I’m starving”. She fed that woman 3 meals a day for many years. Then, she found a way to help many people earn money for food by opening Yad LaKashish. Through the years, its turned into so much more than just a place for elders to get a job. </li></ul>

Dedicated <ul><li>People that work there always say that when they wake up they are excited to go to work, they also say it brings them back to life as and still having a good life, instead of sitting home all day doing nothing. “It is very hard to find job for elderly people” someone said to Ms. Mendilow. </li></ul>
  5. 5. Helper <ul><li>Mrs. Mendilow wanted to help the elderly not become beggars because of the economy . So she quit being a teacher and made a organization Yad LaKashish for elders only. She helped a lot of people become happy again. </li></ul>
