Indians: Often seen as quite old fashioned and strict people
who live in large families. May be thought of as owning
the local corner shop or being doctors, with the women
usually staying at home and bringing up the children.
Also can tend to exclude themselves from society and be
submissive.
Chinese: Seen as very intellectual or nerdy, often quite
serious and involved with jobs involving technology or
science.
Immigrants: Seen as selfish and illegal, stealing our jobs.
Can be represented as criminals, cunning and sly.

in eastenders, and is
represented as very
much a rebel to his family
and traditions, as he is
homosexual. Although he
is from a religious
stereotypical Indian
family, with devoting
mother, dominant father
and several siblings. He
chose to go against his
families beliefs and
wishes to stay true to
himself.

5. JohnLutherInLuther
John Luther works in law
enforcement for
London's SCU (Serious
Crime Unit). In some
respects he has a fairly
stereotypical
intimidating, and
domineering presence of
a black man. And may
be seen to induce more
fear in other characters
because of his race.

6. GabrielleInDesperateHousewives
Gabrielle is a Mexican
woman who moved to
Texas when she was
young. Although she is
from a humble and
incredibly poor
background her life in the
show is extremely
extravagant and modern.
She is definitely not
defined by her ethnicity
and is unaffected by it.

7. SunshineInGlee
Sunshine Corazon is a
foreign exchange student
from the Philippines. In
Glee Sunshine is initially
demeaned by a dominant
character Rachel who
sees her as foreign, non-
English speaking and
stupid person (For her
ethnicity alone.) But she
is quickly set straight.

8. RajeshInTheBigBangTheory
Raj is a Hindu Indian and fits
rather well to a stereotype.
as he is a Doctor of
Astrophysics, (like his father
who is also a doctor) a
doctor being quite a
common profession in the
Indian community, and has
a large family. His ethnicity
doesn't cause him to be
treated differently in the
show. However he does
have different beliefs and
practices because of his
background which affect the
actions of his character.

relationships.
