2. Odisha has achieved 5% reduction in aggregate technical &
commercial (AT &C) loss in Power Sector during the 2016-17
fiscal.
3. This was revealed at the review of power distribution sector
by Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi.
According to sources, during the year 2015-16 the total AT&C
loss in LT system was around 51.57 per cent which was
reduced to 46.45 per cent in the year 2016-17.
4. The loss reduction during the first 4 months has been more
than 1.5% as compared to the corresponding period of last
fiscal.
5. During the first four months of the current fiscal year it has
further been reduced around 1.5 percent, said sources
adding the reduction loss has been highest ( 21.27pc) in
Ghatgaon sub-division under NESCO followed by Gopalpur
sub-division ( 20 per cent) under SOUTHCO and Kaurnumda
subdivision (18.30 per cent) under WESCO.
6. Reviewing the progress, the Chief Secretary directed all the
DISCOMs to achieve seven per cent reduction in AT & C loss
in LT sector during the current year.
7. He further apprised about various measures taken for
strengthening of power supply system and performance in
billing and collections. Billing agencies are being engaged
through transparent tender process. Performance based
incentive system has also been introduced in various
divisions as a result of which billing and collection track has
shown upward trend.
8. Review showed that as per 2011 census, total households in
the State were 96 lakhs. Out of this, so far more than 68 lakh
houses have been electrified. More than 3.18 lakh houses
were provided new connection during the year 2016-17. In
the current year 1,21,310 new households were provided
new connection by end of July, 2017. Target was set to
provide power connection to the balance 28 lakh houses by
end of March, 2018.

Bibhu Prasad Mohapatra, DGM Rural Electrification
Corporation Santosh Sahoo along with CEOs of all
DOSCOMs and senior officers of the department participated
in discussions.
