2. WHAT IS ASEAN? The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is a regionally-based international organisation with ten members. On 8 August 1967, ASEAN was born. The five Foreign Ministers who signed it is Adam Malik of Indonesia, Narciso R. Ramos of the Philippines, Tun Abdul Razak of Malaysia, S. Rajaratnam of Singapore, and ThanatKhoman of Thailand . These five foreign ministers were also known as the Founding Fathers of the organization. 3. Vietnam joined in the year of 1995. Burma (Myanmar) and Laos joined in 1997 the last member, Cambodia joined in 1999. The purpose of ASEAN get together to form by ourselves a new perspective and a new framework for our region and prevent any foreign force could grab our land. we prove by deeds that we belong to a same big family of South-east Asia nations bound together by ties of friendship and goodwill, then imbued with our own ideals and aspirations and determined to shape our own destiny.
