2. Birds are the Worlds best Engineer’s
Birds have been integral to humans since
prehistory.
Birds occupy many levels of trophic webs,
from mid-level consumers to top predators.
Many birds are important in plant
reproduction through their services as
pollinators or seed dispersers.
Some birds are considered keystone species
as their presence in (or disappearance from)
an ecosystem affects other species indirectly.
3. How are the birds disappearing?
A hundred bird species have vanished since
1600, nearly all due to human activities,
chiefly habitat loss, overhunting, and
introduced predators.
And many have died due to 5g signals which
effect their natural navigation system.
In Bangalore, too much human interference
around the lake may have deterred the
Pelicans from nesting there.
It is too late to save some of them, but others
still have a chance if we act now.
4. Extension of Sparrows
The depleting population of sparrows is also
attributed to increased use of packaged food.
Unlike the earlier days, when women used to
clean grain outside their houses and
sparrows would have plenty of food from
there, the bird is either starved or forced to
eat leftover from the packaged foods.
Extensive use of pesticides and insecticides
in farms and gardens is also killing the bird’s
primary food source: insects.
5. Few years back -
One or two years ago, the trees right opposite
my house were alive with birds – Red-
Whiskered Bulbuls,white-Cheeked Barbets,
Purple-Rumped Sunbirds, Mynas, Koels and
Pale-Billed Flowerpeckers.
It was a sense of hapiness to see them in the
morning, flitting from one branch to the other
– especially the Bulbul pair, an the Mynas.
Now, from past few years, they have all gone.
Disappeared.
Rarely do I hear those beautiful calls of the
birds I loved the most;
The area where I loved, R T Nagar, was not
the only place where I saw a reduction.

6. Impact of environment on birds
The Hebbal lake is host to a number of
spoon-billed Pelicans before and during
winter.
Now, for almost a year and a half, their
absence is morbid. Where did they go?
Of course, the main reason is – human
interference.
But we as bird-lovers may be able to do
something to bring our beloved feathered
friends back. It will be dificult. But it can be
done.

7. Reasons why birds
disappeared in Bangalore
Constant inflow of sewage water and
indiscriminate construction as affected is perhaps
the formula that has destroyed Bangalore's
birdlife.
The removal of bulrushes from the shores and
tanks has hit the water birds.
The move to introduce boating facilities in Hebbal
lake will scare away the birds as was seen to
happen at Madivala Lake.
The bird is found nowhere except at the tri-
junction of the States of Karnataka, Andhra
Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
8. How you can help them come back
Take steps to halt global climate change.
Support legislation that sets greenhouse gas
reduction targets.
Vote for legislators who pledge to fight global
warming. Reduce your own carbon footprint.
Be a responsible consumer. Try not to buy
products that are harmful to the environment.
Shop locally and sustainably. Consume less.
Buy organic cotton clothes, sheets, and
towels. Conventional cotton uses an
enormous quantity of pesticide with significant
impacts on birds.
9. Avoid caging birds
Do not keep birds other than domestic fowl in
captivity.
The trade in wild birds cannot be stopped
until the market for them disappears.
There is no way to ensure that cage birds
were not taken from the wild.
Cover or put predator silhouettes on your
windows to keep birds from hitting them.
Cover your windows at night during migration
periods to reduce light pollution.
Do not let cats roam outdoors unattended.
Do not disturb vegetation during the nesting
season.
10. Create a garden friendly environment to
birds in surrounding
Refrain from using pesticides and chemical
fertilizers.
For your back yard, plant indigenous trees
and flowers. The website of Plant
Native provides information on native plants
that favor wildlife including birds.
If you have space in your back yard, consider
creating a small pond. It will become an
essential habitat for insects, amphibians, and
birds.
11. Thankyou
I hope we as being bird lovers will be able to follow these measures to birng our
feathered Friends back.
