2. Introduction
 Android” Lollipop” or simply “AND L” is the one of the
version of the Android mobile OS developed by Google.
 It became available through official on Nov12,2014
 One of the most prominent change in the Lollipop
release is a redesigned UI built around a design
Language referred to as “material design”.
 OS is also switching from Dalvik to ART

3. What is Dalvik & ART
 Dalvik is a virtual machine in google Android OS
that executes applications written for Android.
 Android programs are compiled in to .dex files and
produce Byte code.
 Intrepreters are slow so developers added a
technology Just in time(JIT).

4. ANDROID RUNTIME(ART)
 ART is the next version of Dalvik.
 It has a main feature A head of time
(AOT) compilation which improves speed
 AOT means apps are compiled to native
code but not byte code
 ART was first included in Kitkat but isn’t yet enabled by
default.

5. Material Design
 Lollipop 5.0 has a new Look and feel with bold
and new visuals consisting of a more colorful
Layout.
 New user interface gives better touch screen
interactions with real time lighting and shadows,
natural motion and responsiveness.
 The new UI has an animated touch feedback with a
flat design makes the interface look more
streamlined.

7. Enhanced Notifications
• Android L enhanced the notifications
as they will display on the Lock Screen.
 If one can easily swipe it away or can
double tap to open the relevant app.

8. New Lock Screen
 Android L has the new Lock Screen
which shows the notifications.
 You can unlock by swiping up side.
 You can also swipe left to directly
launch the camera.
 While swiping right will launch the dialer.

9. New Multi Tasking
 Android L has the new recent apps
section which is of Google Now card
style layout.
 The open apps can be swiped off to
close them as before.
 Thus the open apps flow on a sort of carousel.

10. New Notification Bar
 The new notification bar of
Android L has the new color scheme
and different layout.
 There are new cast screen icon
as well as screen brightness control
in notification bar.

11. Security – Personal Locking
 As Google mentioned that security is
the key factor for android users.
 The new feature will be enable for
the users to unlock their Smartphone
by using smart lock.

12. Battery Life – New Saver Mode
 Android L give the facility of extra 90
minutes of extra use per charge
as the battery saver mode.
 Thus, the better battery life is the main thing which
we needs more in our Android Phones.

13. Performance
 Android Lollipop supports 64 – bit processors.
 It will also upgrade to Android Run time(ART)
software library which is twice faster than Dalvik.

16. Conclusion
 Lollipop features a new material design which
completely reboots Android visual style. It is designed
to give flawless and productive output. Lollipop is
something unique which is not only enhancing the
user experience but it will also boost the productivity.
