Audience Research Summary- Task 9
Overall, from analysing my survey and interview answers I can conclude that both men and women would like to see in a
popular music magazine the type of typography that would attract them would be large, bold font that is in a modern, sans-serif
style that grabs the readers attention. They would also like to see bright colours that are eye-catching such as blues,
yellows and pinks, but would expect to see colours that represent the character the artist is portraying to the audience. Both
genders would like to see images of current artist that are well liked and in the top charts in a popular music magazine. Both
genders also answered that they would both like to see in a popular music magazine the latest updates on artist and interviews
in the articles. I have acknowledge that to appel to my target audience for my popular music magazine I must use bright
colours that attract the readers attention, but that also connote the image of the artist for example a female artist will have
feminine colours like pinks or purples. I must also use colours that represent the artist’s character such as red to present
love/lust/passion or rebellious behaviour and pinks to characterise innocence. I have learnt that the typography I must use in
my popular music magazine is bold font in a modern style that attracts the reader’s attention. They typography must also again
represent the artist in its style for example an artist that is portraying a rebellious character may use a graffiti style font. I have
learnt that readers like to see articles based on the latest updates on artist and interviews with artists, I will include this when
producing my music magazine.
However, from both my survey and interview I have found the men do not usually buy music magazines. This means that I
must make my magazine appeal to men by the use of imagery, typography and colour schemes. I must try and connect to the
male target audience by using images. From my survey the men also answered that in their spare time they are interested in
sport. It may be beneficial to use images of artist in sportswear to appeal to the male target audience to buy the magazine.
I have also taken into consideration that from my survey women interested in fashion, so it may be useful to include a fashion
article in my popular music magazine to appeal to the women target audience.
