2. History of Malabon
• The term Malabon is said to have originated from the phrase "maraming
labong" (plenty of bamboo shoots). On May 21, 1599, the Augustinian friars
established this as a "Visita" of Tondo with the original name Tambobong.
• It is located just north of the city of Manila. The city of Malabon is primarily a redential and
industrial area, and it is also one of the most densely populated cities in the metropolis. The total
land area of Malabon City is 15.96 square kilometers.
• The City of Malabon is part of the sub-region of Metro Manila infomally called CAMANAVA.
The following cities is also part of the the sub-region of Metro Manila; Caloocan, Malabon,
Navotas, and Valenzuela City. The City of Caloocan lies to the south and east, Navotas to the
west, and Valenzuela to the north. The town of Obando in the province of Bulacan to the
northwest is also a borders of City of Malabon.
