Pain Syndrome
The Chronic regional pain syndrome or CRPS is a problem that affects patients in legs and
arms first and slowly spreads inside the complete body. It is also called as the Causalgia or
the Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy. The symptoms of the aforesaid disease include pain and
swelling around skin. With time the disease worsens and affects the complete arm or the leg.
The treatment involves the patient to have drugs and therapy.
The problem is related to the deregulation of the nervous system. In severe cases, it might
even result into disability and functional loss. It is categorised into two types. Type I is called
the reflex sympathetic dystrophy and type II is called causalgia.
Majority of patients are diagnosed with Type I CRPS. The type II CRPS which is also known
as causalgia have the major cause as nerve injury. The pain in Type I gets shifted from the
original site to the other areas of the body whereas in Type II people with time attain other
areas of pain.
Both the types of CRPS differ in the inciting event occurrences. Type I gets developed by
harmful events that are disturbing and Type II CRPS is developed following a nerve injury.
Primarily after observation, CRPS is diagnosed as there are no tests available for it. But
thermography, electro diagnostics and X-rays are used avidly to create a picture of the
problem.
Also if there is a delay in the treatment then simple problems can result into severe ones.
Treating the problem early can result into healing more promptly. Sometimes the patients get
fine even without undergoing any treatment.

CRPS II is diagnosed when a continuous pain is felt post a nerve injury or there are some
changes in the blood flow. But with good neuropathy treatments all problems are suppressed
and are not reoccurred again. Hence, it is imperative to use such treatments to promptly as
soon as you see some changes in your arms or legs.
