ENERGY ALLOCATION SOFTWARE IS NO
MYSTERY TO CSIPGH
Energy Allocation Software is becoming
mainstream on many VRF Projects
Across the country, particularly on multi-
tenant buildings where the building
owner desires to shed HVAC utility costs;
Energy Allocation software allows
building owners to apportion costs
among tenants based on their specific
usage.
With minimal programming, additional
watt motors, panels and software we
able to allocate outdoor units’ power
consumption to building tenants based
on capacity used by the user’s indoor
units.
After systems are running and tested,
each tenant may receive monthly
statements showing their energy usage.
Additionally, VRF Energy Allocation
systems can provide assistance by
comprehensively showing ongoing
energy consumption of HVAC
Equipment. This enables comparisons
with previous years’ power consumption,
a s w e l l a s p r o v i d i n g g ra p h i ca l
representations for easy viewing.
Though the application is becoming
more popular, it should come as no
surprise that CSIpgh has been using this
technology for nearly a decade!
Beginning in 2008, we launched the
software in our VRF Living Lab; that same
year we completed our first our first off-
site application in New Castle, PA. Since
then, we’ve honed our expertise by
completing over 2,000 combined TONS
of VRF Energy Allocation Projects in the
past nine years.
ENERGY ALLOCATION SOFTWARE: NOT
JUST FOR MULTI-TENANT BUILDINGS
Although multi-family building projects
have been far and away our most
popular application for the software, we
are seeing more projects that utilize that
the software’s energy-usage dashboards.
Energy usage dashboards illustrate HVAC
energy consumption in real-time, which
has carved out a secondary market niche
among Green buildings.

3. THE CSIPGH DIFFERENCE
O n a l l C S I p g h
Energy Allocation
Projects, we assist
with panel layout
and programming
drawings to ensure a
high quality finished
system that is easy
to implement and
operate.
CSIpgh also offers all-encompassing
project support; during installation we
offer on-site technical assistance, and we
inspect installation components.
Likewise, during start-up and post start-
up we verify that energy-allocation
software is working properly to ensure a
seamless transition to building
managers.

One such example is Penn State Shavers
Creek Environmental Center— an
environmentally-friendly building
utilizing Mitsubishi Energy Allocation
Software to capture HVAC Energy Usage
on their multi-million dollar building
renovation.
CSIpgh Technical Advisor Rick Boucher
says of the project, “Shaver's Creek is well
known in their environmental focus. The
Mitsubishi City Multi systems and energy
allocation software will reinforce that
focus by allowing operators to set energy
usage goals for the building or even at
the room level. The graphics will provide
instant feedback on how well they are
doing in meeting their goals.”
One of the biggest advantages of pairing
VRF with Energy Allocation software is
that the solutions work on projects both
large and small. In our years of working
with VRF, we’ve been able to successfully
implement Energy Allocation Software
on a range projects, from 50 tons to
nearly 500 tons.

The $20 million expansion of Fulton County Medical Center is currently under
construction in McConnellsburg, PA. The Center for Advanced Medicine will
include 60,000 square feet of new space dedicated to primary care, specialty
care, behavioral health, and IV infusion services.
The addition includes state-of-the-art technology throughout, and the HVAC
system is no exception. This project features 120 tons of City Multi Hyper-Heat Heat
Recovery VRF, including 66 indoor units, and 2 Premisys DOAS units. Additionally,
the hospital was so impressed with the system that they opted to use Diamond
Controls as the BMS for the new addition rather than integrating into their older
BMS.
Equally impressive was the flawless installation, which was smooth and seamless.
CSIpgh Technical advisor Rick Boucher was onsite providing assistance
throughout. “The workmanship of the installation by the contractor was definitely
top notch, it was very evident that they take great pride in their work”, says Rick.
The Center for Advanced Medicine is set to open in the Spring of 2018, and the
new HVAC system will ensure that the space is comfortable for both patients and
staff alike.
