The Trinidad State Junior College Lady
Trojan basketball squad is off to a 2-and-4
start to the 2014 season with a tough week-end
of basketball in front of them. They
faced Barton Community College (3-1) on
Friday, and preseason #22 New Mexico JC
(5-0) on Saturday at a tournament in La
Junta.
The Trojans started the 2014 season
with a pair of losses in Texas, falling to a
hot shooting Clarendon 80-49 and to Frank
Phillips 71-60. Against the Lady Plainsmen
sophomore point guard Claire Ioannidis
torched the nets for 26 points to lead the
Trojans.
The Following Tuesday the Trojans
played their home opener against North-west
Kansas Tech. Kori Eurich led TSJC to
a 74-57 victory, scoring 21 points and pull-ing
down seven boards. Ioannidis added
19 points, eight steals and eight assists and
Holly Woodbury came off the bench to put
in 18 points and gather 11 rebounds.
The Trojans hosted Clarendon last week-end
at the TSJC classic, again falling but
in a much tighter game the second time
around, 67-61. Eurich put in 20 to pace the
Trojans. Last Saturday TSJC handily de-feating
Northern New Mexico JV by a final
of 79-43. All 14 Lady Trojans scored in the
contest.
This past Tuesday the Trojans headed to
Española, New Mexico for a rematch with
Northern New Mexico’s JV but found a
much different team. Despite leading early
the Trojans gave up 34 second half points,
falling 59-52. Eurich again led the Trojans
with 20 points and eight boards and fellow
sophomore Marcella Sanchez pulled down
11 rebounds.
The Lady Trojans will play their final
home game of the semester next Tuesday,
November 18, when they host Adams State
JV at 6 p.m. at Scott Gym.
