3. glass microspheres are produced at high temperature based on a mixture of
soda , lime and borosilicate.
The obtained glass is milled and mixed with sodium-sulfate, after which the
mixture is run through a high temperature heat transfer process whereby the
viscosity of the glass drops and the surface tension causes the particles to
form perfect round shaped spheres.
Continued heating activates the blowing agent, releasing a small amounts of
sulfur gas that form bubbles within the molten glass droplets.
The result are low density, rigid, hollow spheres with an increased crush
resistance, withstanding external pressure and avoiding fracture of the bubble
