How Can You Help Protect The Environment
Environment – how can you help protect it?
Our planet is in trouble! Almost every day we seem to hear of yet another problem affecting the environment – and what a list of problems! – pollution,
acid rain, climate change, the destruction of rainforests and other wild habitats, the decline and extinction of thousands of species of animals and
plants....and so on.
Nowadays, most of us know that these threats exist and that humans have caused them. Many of us are very worried about the future of our planet and
unless we can find a way of solving the problems we have made then the environment will suffer even more.
It all sounds so depressing – but we certainly mustn't despair! Every one of us, whatever age we are can do something to help...show more content...
One and a half acres are cleared every second, an area about the size of a football pitch. They are cut down to make way for 'civilised man' to provide
timber, grow crops and graze cattle. Sometimes they're burnt down to make space to grow soya, an animal feed and to grow palm oil, a bio–fuel used
as an alternative to petrol and diesel, as well as being used as an ingredient in many foods.
Ideas to Help
* Never buy products made up of tropical hardwoods e.g. mahogany and teak. It is better to buy only pine, oak, ash or beech because they can be
replaced. * Garden and flower shops sometimes sell rainforest orchids that have been imported, although endangered ones have been protected
since 1973. If you buy an orchid, check that it has been grown in Britain. * Some parrots and macaws are unfortunately still imported. If you want a
parrot as a pet, make sure it has been hatched in Britain. * Eating a beefburger may be helping to destroy the rainforest! Most burgers in Britain are
made from European cattle. However, the cattle are often fed on soya beans and a lot of that comes from Brazil where large areas of forest have been
destroyed to make soya fields. Before buying a burger, ask where the cattle came from and what they were fed on. Try a veggie burger for a change!
Pollution
The air, water and soil of habitats all over the world have been, and are still being polluted in many

Environmental Fundamentals
Introduction
Environmental science is defined as the study of the environment and the interconnecting systems it contains, furthermore, the way people interact with
their natural surroundings and use natural resources (wise geek, 2013). Scientist in this field is highly interdisciplinary and extremely diverse, for
example, a scientist might study volcanoes or climate change. This essay will cover the following; the definition of environmental science, the
relationship between science and technology and how it affects environmental problems; the concept of environmental sustainability and why it should
be studied; how human...show more content...
Environmental Sustainability
Environmental sustainability is the process of making sure current processes of interaction with the environment are pursued with the idea of keeping
the environment as pristine as naturally possible based on ideal–seeking behavior (Wikipedia, 2010). What makes environmental sustainability so
important is that it demands that society designs activities to meet human needs while indefinitely preserving the life support systems of the planet
(Wikipedia, 2010). Human consumption can only use the nature's resources at a rate that can be replenished naturally.
Human Values affecting Society
The most devastating environmental change of all is the loss of biodiversity. The rate of species extinction has remained at one species per million per
year, furthermore, the accelerating destruction of habitats throughout the world leads to projections of the loss of two–thirds of all species on earth by
the end of this century, and millions of years to recover from the Cretaceous period (mindfully.org, 2013). As individuals, we obtain our food, directly
or indirectly from plants, for example, plant our primary use of medicines. Biodiversity also determines the properties of communities and ecosystems,
which capture energy from the sun. The world is less resilient, more homogeneous, less interesting, and with fewer opportunities for our descendants
and ourselves: where the process reaches

EPA Protecting the Planet Essay
The environment and the health of the surrounding population go hand in hand. The Environmental Protection Agency takes on this ever so important
mission of protecting them both. The mission statement of the EPA states, "The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Small Business
Programs is to support the protection of human health and the environment by advocating and advancing the business, regulatory, and environmental
compliance concerns of small and socio–economically disadvantaged businesses, and minority academic institutions (US Enviromental Protection
Agency, 2010)." The impact of its mission can be defined clearly as it examines the impact of contamination in the air, the water, and the land on
human health. The EPA...show more content...
Enviromental Protection Agency, 2011). Children may be more susceptible to environmental exposure than adults; hence, protecting them from such
exposure is vital for their livelihoods. In 1997 President William J. Clinton issued (CLINTON, 1997). The EO was designed to protection children
from environmental health and safety risks. Multiple reasons support the idea that kids are more likely to come in contact with environmental health
hazards. To educate the populous on such matters the EPA formed the (TEACH) website. The goal of the TEACH project is to complement existing
children's health resources. TEACH does not provide an evaluation or critique the validity of the relevant scientific studies; nor does TEACH derive
toxicity values. Instead, the goal of TEACH is to summarize, compile, and organize information obtained from numerous resources into one online
resource. TEACH is designed to support numerous efforts throughout the country that target the protection of children's health (EPA, 2009). Molds
can be found roughly everywhere on the planet as long as the two most basic life requirements are available, moisture and oxygen. When too much
moisture is available mold growth will take place, especially if the moisture is not controlled. Eliminating all molds and mold spores is nearly
impossible, but it can be controlled and is supported by the Clean Air Act.

The role business can play in protecting the environment "...shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand." (Matthew 7:26,
King James Bible) There can be little doubt that mankind and indeed the whole planet is facing an environmental crisis. Whether that crisis is brought
to a head by global warming, ozone depletion, acid rain, tropical deforestation or top soil erosion, remains to be seen. In this essay we will examine
the role business is playing in creating this crisis and what it can do to help protect the environment in the future. Business produces the goods and
services that meet our needs, wants and desires. It is this process that has lead to much of the destruction of the environment that...show more content...
It is clear now that economic growth without heed to the environmental cost can no longer be the main objective of business; growth without
recognition of the environmental cost is unjustifiable. We know that new technologies and processes are not sufficient to meet the demands of the
issues at hand. It would also be foolish for us to rely solely or even heavily on the possibility that science and technology will cure the ills of the past
and provide us with new streams of growth for the future. Fundamentally there is a need for a change of attitude towards production and consumption,
but more importantly there is a need to become ethically aware of the total, comprehensive cost of business, that is not just its economic cost but also
its social and environmental costs. We must discover new and innovative ways to organize the business culture within the existing free market
economy, under governmental and social regulation while promoting sustainable production and growth for the future. On a global scale there are
conflicts in business as to how this might be achieved. There are those in the emerging economies who protest that the environmental destruction to
date has been caused by the developed world. The developed world has been careless and reckless in its treatment of the planet and has benefitted
significantly from this negligence, but now that impending disaster has been detected they insist that all economies, including the underdeveloped,
must bear

Theodore Roosevelt had always been intrigued by the environment, from a young age he had wanted to work as a naturalist. Roosevelt saw from the
beginning how humans messed up the environment, for example the transcontinental which cut into many of the animals grazing lands. Buffalo were
being killed in very high numbers based on the fact that the skins were valued very highly. Theodore Roosevelt spent most of his life trying to protect
a great majority of the natural resources and wildlife. He took note of the fact that without the help of people trying to conserve natural resource that
there would not be any left for future generations. Roosevelt was personally responsible for the conservation of about two hundred and thirty million

Simple Ways to Protect Our Natural Environment
Simple Ways to Protect Our Natural Environment The natural environment consist of all living and non–living things occurring naturally on Earth. It is
an environment that encompasses the interaction of all living species. The concept of the natural environment can be separate by components that
includes complete ecological units that function as natural systems and natural phenomena that occur within their boundaries. Universal natural
resources and physical phenomena are such as air, water, and climate, as well as energy, radiation, electric charge and magnetism. The environment is
very important as it has so many benefits for us and for our young but recently the percentage of pollution and energy waste has recorded an ascending

This prevents accumulation of sediment and prolongs the life of your water heater. Thirdly, we focus on our shopping habit. Plastic bags are not
biodegradable even if they say they are they do not decompose fully. Also the ink is made up of cadmium, and is highly toxic when it is released.
Whereas paper bags are reusable and biodegradable. However supermarkets use paper that has never been recycled before and they always say
"recyclable" not "recycled". Here is what you can do: if your purchase is small don't take any bag, this alone could save hundreds of millions of
bags. Bring a cloth bag when you shop, or use string bags. Then , those who have babies are recommended to use cloth diapers. Americans trash
over 18 billion disposable diapers a year, this amount can go to the moon and back seven times. These disposable diapers consume 1,265,000
metric tons of wood pulp and 75,000 metric tons of plastic. After using disposable diapers we are supposed to wash them out, only 5% of us do.
Meaning that millions of tons of dirt, possibly disease infected diapers wind up in our so called "sanitary" landfills. In fact three million tons of
untreated feces and urine does not go through our sewage system but into our landfills. Over 100 different diseases are known to be excreted in
human feces that they can seep into our groundwater. Finally, if you want to do painting, be aware of your paint you use . Use latex paint

Ways to Protect the Environment.
I really love trying to protect the world/environment through many ways such as recycling, picking up trash, no polluting and decrease pollution
overall, saving animal habitats and so much more. We should care for the environment because its our real home, we live in it and we dont want a
nasty living of trash every where with stenches, also animals can die from our trashes such in beaches, they can get stuck in the can plastics. We need
to recycle because recycling takes trash and processes it in some way to make a useful product. Composting falls into this category. Glass, plastics,
paper, steel, and cardboard are other materials that may be recycled. The added benefit of compost is that it can be done in your own backyard.

Hopefully then you can begin to imagine the extent of this problem. So just recycle cause you dont want o have a landfill start piling up to your back
yard do you? save the hassle, save the space because recycling saves natural resources, reduces land pollution and also air pollution as many products
require more energy to produce them than to recycle them. We need to save animal habitats because animals can't survive without food, shelter

How Do Nnrs Protect The Environment
How do National Nature Reserves (NNRs) protect the environment through deer control whilst also conserving the population? National Nature
Reserves (NNRs) are statutory sites where the primary land use is nature management, they offer distinctive opportunities for research regarding
fauna, flora and the earth itself. Alexander (2013) states that in order for areas to be classed as National Nature Reserves "They have to be of national
importance for wildlife or earth science." Most NNRs have species and habitats which are nationally essential so the wildlife is managed rigorously.
When referring to Scottish National Heritage, the general purpose of NNRs is to protect an area of important wildlife so that everyone can be proud
and appreciative

Epa's Responsibility To Protect The Environment
The Environmental Protection Agency, or EPA, is an extremely vital function to our society. The EPA makes laws and regulations for businesses
and citizens to follow to make our world safer and to protect it for the future generations. Most educated people can agree that we do have a
responsibility to do something about climate change and the difference we can make is through the EPA. Because of our free market companies will
do anything they can to provide cheap goods and this usually comes at a price to the environment. The
EPA can help make regulation that forces companies to abide by business practices that do not harm the environment. If the EPA were to relax their
regulations our world wouldn't be the same for future generations. With

Since the environmental movement began four decades ago, there have been many differing opinions as to what role the government should play in
protecting and preserving the environment. What standards should government set and at what expense? Most environmental or "green" issues are
often presented as choices of either economic growth or environmental protection. This idea of having to choose between the environment and the
economy has often delayed the green movement from making necessary strides. However, more and more Americans are currently looking toward
options that include both environmental protection and economic growth.
During the 1970's the war to protect the environment often focused on "point...show more content...
One example that the study cited was the Gulf of Mexico's "dead zone". The "dead zone" is an area that in uninhabitable by marine life during the
summer because of a lack of oxygen. Within the last decade, the area has doubled in size to 7,000 square miles.
Perhaps the strongest example of a potentially disastrous problem with few tangible manifestations is global warming. Despite mounting evidence that
confirms a rise in global temperatures and a change in the climate due to carbon emissions, deep differences exist about the urgency of climate change
and who should bear the burden of addressing it. In 1997, all these differing sides met for negotiations to put together a global warming treaty in
Kyoto, Japan. Differences were between skeptics and believers, "have" and have–not" countries, free market proponents and environmental advocates.
The Kyoto treaty would require all industrial nations to reduce their production of polluting gases below the 1990 levels. The U.S. target was a seven
percent reduction by 2008. Unfortunately, the treaty was rejected by the Bush administration for fear that it would impose too great of an economic
burden. Instead of the treaty, President Bush has proposed voluntary measures, backed by government tax credits, to slow the growth of greenhouse

The importance of the environment appears when many disconcerting events throughout the years have emerged: tsunami and flooding, drought and
starving, pollution, declining animal populations and many others. Looking behind these events is make us realize that we have caused irreversible
damaged, through our daily behaviors.
We now live in a modern, consumerist and largely urban existence throughout the developed world and we consume a lot of natural resources every
day. ENVS course focuses on understanding cause and effect of social, economic and environmental impacts between our need and our product
technologically and economically, and how to protect the environments in which we and others live. In ENVS class we do not learn just about the
environment, but also about our health as a society in ensuring that no people or areas of life suffer as a result of, and also about examining the
longer–term effects of the human activities and asking questions about how it improved and to ensure the quality of life for this and future generations.
Teaching students about sustainability have been very important. It develops the knowledge, values, and worldviews required to make certain that
there's enough for everyone, forever. It's different to other learning areas as it focuses on protecting natural environments and creating an ecologically
and socially just world through informed action. Sustainability curriculum in CU Denver develops the capabilities, skills, and knowledge for

Sustainable development that allows the present generation to meet our current needs, without compromising the ability of future generations to meet
their needs. In other words, sustainable development is a inseparable system of economic, social, resource and protection of environmental which not
only can attain the objective of economic development, but also it can protect the natural resources of atmospheric, freshwater, marine and
environment. It can make the future generations live and work in peace and environmental protection. Sustainable development has the connection
with environmental protection, but it cannot be equated with environmental protection. environmental protection is one of the important aspect of
environmental protection. The core of sustainable development is development, but the premise of social and economic development is controlling of
population strictly, improving the quality of people, protecting the environment and using the resources permanently. There are 5 main points of
sustainable development nowadays: 1. the support of development, 2. the cleanness of water, 3. the green trade, 4. the exploitation of energy, 5. the
protection of environment. Specifically, the support of development is that developed countries enlarge the economic assistance to the developing
countries. The proportion of the assistance should reach 0.7% of GDP. 2. the cleanness of water means that economizing the water for half of the
population who are short of

Another problem we have with placing a price on the environment and natural resources are having everyone agree on the prices. Some people in
politics will see somethings as important while others are an afterthought. We see this now in capitol hill on how our congressmen are handling women
contraceptive and birth control. The census is a must for voting for new laws and bills in our society, but we would also need to implicate an incentive
strategy to motivate companies to go green and protect our environment. In class, I only was thinking about hurting these companies' pockets and
implementing hard penalties. The civil society would have to pay fines for breaking environmental laws. These laws would be car emission, running

The big businesses are profiting and are in favor of deforestation, desertification, and losing fresh water are a few things talked about in this chapter.
These are the things that need to be fixed if we, the people of Earth, want to minimize the changes of climate and its effects. In the deforestation
front, almost half of the tropical forest is lost to deforestation, and this causes the world to lose plant species and animal species when their habitats
are destroyed. We can see the market field at work in deforestation because 3% of tropical forest are being reported as managed by the Tropical
Timber Organization, while Two–thirds of the forest is designate to a management regime. We are seeing acres of forest not being reported properly
because of corruption, cronyism, and illegal logging, (Speth pg. 30) We are losing our land that is productive for agriculture, and it is turning into a
wasteland that is not usable. This is called desertification, and fifty million acres of land has been lost to desertification each year. (Speth pg. 31)
This kills the production of food for billions of people, and these people are in areas that deal with famines and drought. It can be fixed if we are
concerned with out agriculture process and handling. Over–cultivation, overgrazing, and poor irrigation practices are some of the big habits that cause
land to become deserts. Water is a resource that cannot be switched our or substituted for

Importance Of Protecting The Environment Essay
Our environment undoubtedly has many things we can use to benefit our everyday lives. Even if our environment is not in tip–top shape, we need to
start taking care of it better. If we don't many things will happen. These things include plants dying, animals going extinct, air becoming polluted, coral
reefs dying, and water rapidly coming contaminated. Another problem our environment has to face, overcome, or adapt too is Global Warming. Global
Warming has and will continue to impact our environment worldwide if we do not begin taking immediate action and do something to protect our
environment.
Protecting our environment is indeed the first action that should be taken. Protecting the environment should take place locally and globally in my
opinion. There are many things that our local environment could do that would have have a tremendous impact on our environment that genuinely
would not take oodles of effort. A few of these could be as easy as recycling soda cans, old school or work papers, and glass bottles and taking them
to a local recycling center. When you recycle you are reusing things or making them into new things. Two more examples would be hosting or
participating in a highway clean up, or planting a community garden at a park. Globally, humans are responsible for Greenhouse Gasses, pollution, and
fossil fuel shortages. Globally, if everyone pitched in just a little bit, greenhouse gas emissions could go down drastically. The way we could cut these
emissions

Should we keep the Environmental Protection Agency? The EPA is the environmental protection agency and they deal with keeping the environment
clean and they enforce the laws to keep it clean. The agency was put together by President Richard Nixon on December 2, 1970. He put them together
to enforce the fines, sanctions and other measures. Their headquarters is in Washington D.C.The Environmental Protection Agency always has people
wondering where they get the money, what they will change, and how they help the world. Bill Clinton elected the head of the environmental
protection agency when he was elected and he chose Florida's secretary of environmental regulations. To start off, President Bill Clinton elected
Carol Browner to run the environmental protection agency (Carol M. Browner 50). Carol Browner sticks up to what she feels is important for
today's society. To continue, Browner won her role by getting her respect gained in 2 cases as Florida's secretary of environmental regulations
(Carol M. Browner 50). Browner was standing her ground when the federal government went after Florida to restore the everglades. Lastly,
Roosevelt and Pinchot were focused on the wise and efficient use of natural resources (Geary 226). Roosevelt and Pinchot did whatever they needed
to get more information on natural resources. Bill Clinton chose Carol M. Browner because he knew that she would do her best in this position and
with all of her experience for this position and also Roosevelt wanted to make the environment better for today's society and also for all of the societies
to still come. The Environmental Protective Agency works hard to make the environment better and they also work hard to get enough money to fund
it. According to multiple reports President Lyndon Johnson, "took an interest in preservationist issues" (Girard 100). President Johnson was interested
in the Environmental Protection Agency and wanted to do whatever it was to be a part of it. To continue, a case of environmental policy development,
insufficient evidence to the benefit that environmental goods provide to society and to see if it cost–benefit analysis against environmental protection
(Geary 226). They

The EPA: Protecting The Environment
Protecting the environment is crucial to life on earth. The EPA ( Environmental Protection Agencies) mission is to protect human health and the
environment. EPA was founded on December 2, 1970 to work for a cleaner, healthier environment for the American Citizens.
The Head quarters for EPA are located in Washington D.C.. They have many alternate locations around the nation. Places like New York and Texas
are some of the places where they serve many states at the same time. They have 10 regions and they all serve five states each. Having these divisions
all spread out through the country gives the environment in all of the regions of the U.S equal health.
The function for each of these regions is to maintain the health of

Introduction
Over the past few decades, technologies have made a few great contributions to the environmental protection. Renewable technologies have reduced
the demand of fossil fuel; computer technologies have enabled paperless office into reality and thus decreasing the number of trees used to produce
paper. Therefore, I have come in to believe that technologies will serve as a major role in protecting the environment, both in the present and future.
However, due to certain limitations like political agenda in the current globalized world, the role of technologies may be suppressed and may only be
fulfilled in the future. Current Perspective
One of the most significant technological advancement today that aimed to protect our...show more content...
They have allowed us to glimpse the capability of today's technologies to protect our environment through substituting other
environmentally–unfriendly but yet essential products. Adding to that, the creation of recycling technologies such as Reverse Osmosis (RO) that
separated human waste from the water and the Twin–Chamber Melting Furnace (TCF) that recycled aluminum has proven to us the potential these
technologies have in minimizing the environmental threats. By utilizing these technologies, environments can be better protected from dangers such as
arsenic pollution.
But everything has two–dimensions and that is true for technology as well. One of the greatest problems to such inability of the current technologies to
protect our environment is the insufficient energy generated from the renewable technologies. According to his book Sustainable Energy without Hot
Air, David JC Mackay has made it clear that the amount of energy generated by renewable energy technologies can only satisfy the need for Britain if it
were country–sized. This means that even developed country will rely heavily on burning of "black gold" such as oil and coal to produce energy for
its daily consumption and so, it will be even more worrisome for the developing countries with a greater energy needs. Therefore, environmental issues
such as acid rains and

Caring About Our Environment Essay
Caring About Our Environment
Improving and maintaining the earth's environment is becoming a more important task every day of our lives. Due to ignorance and frequent
carelessness, this important task is quickly becoming a critical one. For this reason, I took it upon myself to construct a strategic plan to enlighten my
peers to the problems of our environment. I did this in hopes that it would encourage everyone to act responsibly towards improving and maintaining
the environment. With ongoing threats to the earth's water supply, atmosphere, and surface, I found it necessary to devise a method of environmental
enlightenment. I plan to apply this method at my place of academic study, The University. If supported by the faculty...show more content...
I recently discovered that one cheeseburger takes more than 700 gallons of water to produce (includes water consumed by cows, water used to irrigate
the cornfields that feed the cows, and the water used to produce the beef and cheese). When considering the millions of cheeseburgers that are
consumed worldwide everyday, it is evident that the earth's water supply is declining rapidly. Due to air pollution, theozone layer is also being
consumed at an extreme rate. Its arch nemesis is the various fumes from cars and factories. Scientists estimate that each 1% drop in ozone levels
causes a 3 to 6% rise in skin cancer cases. Since the ozone layer prevents most ultraviolet and other high–energy radiation from penetrating to the
earth's surface, this is a crisis that has to be rectified. The ozone's depletion has dropped to a level so thin that if we brought it down to Earth, it would
only be as deep as the thickness of three dimes. The only positive outlook concerning this matter is that the ozone has the ability to reconstruct itself
when UV–C rays break the bond of O2. Single oxygen atoms combine with O2 to form ozone (UV–B rays limit this process still yet). This evidence
shows that the world is in dire need of an environmental resurrection. In order for this to occur and be successful, it would require an effort by every
individual nation of our world.
My resolution requires that The University of South Carolina

How Can You Help Protect The Environment

  • 1. How Can You Help Protect The Environment Environment – how can you help protect it? Our planet is in trouble! Almost every day we seem to hear of yet another problem affecting the environment – and what a list of problems! – pollution, acid rain, climate change, the destruction of rainforests and other wild habitats, the decline and extinction of thousands of species of animals and plants....and so on. Nowadays, most of us know that these threats exist and that humans have caused them. Many of us are very worried about the future of our planet and unless we can find a way of solving the problems we have made then the environment will suffer even more. It all sounds so depressing – but we certainly mustn't despair! Every one of us, whatever age we are can do something to help...show more content... One and a half acres are cleared every second, an area about the size of a football pitch. They are cut down to make way for 'civilised man' to provide timber, grow crops and graze cattle. Sometimes they're burnt down to make space to grow soya, an animal feed and to grow palm oil, a bio–fuel used as an alternative to petrol and diesel, as well as being used as an ingredient in many foods. Ideas to Help * Never buy products made up of tropical hardwoods e.g. mahogany and teak. It is better to buy only pine, oak, ash or beech because they can be replaced. * Garden and flower shops sometimes sell rainforest orchids that have been imported, although endangered ones have been protected since 1973. If you buy an orchid, check that it has been grown in Britain. * Some parrots and macaws are unfortunately still imported. If you want a parrot as a pet, make sure it has been hatched in Britain. * Eating a beefburger may be helping to destroy the rainforest! Most burgers in Britain are made from European cattle. However, the cattle are often fed on soya beans and a lot of that comes from Brazil where large areas of forest have been destroyed to make soya fields. Before buying a burger, ask where the cattle came from and what they were fed on. Try a veggie burger for a change! Pollution The air, water and soil of habitats all over the world have been, and are still being polluted in many

  • 3. Environmental Science Essay Environmental Fundamentals Laura Jackson Env/100 April 8, 2013 JOHN ENSWORTH Environmental Fundamentals Introduction Environmental science is defined as the study of the environment and the interconnecting systems it contains, furthermore, the way people interact with their natural surroundings and use natural resources (wise geek, 2013). Scientist in this field is highly interdisciplinary and extremely diverse, for example, a scientist might study volcanoes or climate change. This essay will cover the following; the definition of environmental science, the relationship between science and technology and how it affects environmental problems; the concept of environmental sustainability and why it should be studied; how human...show more content... Environmental Sustainability Environmental sustainability is the process of making sure current processes of interaction with the environment are pursued with the idea of keeping the environment as pristine as naturally possible based on ideal–seeking behavior (Wikipedia, 2010). What makes environmental sustainability so important is that it demands that society designs activities to meet human needs while indefinitely preserving the life support systems of the planet (Wikipedia, 2010). Human consumption can only use the nature's resources at a rate that can be replenished naturally. Human Values affecting Society The most devastating environmental change of all is the loss of biodiversity. The rate of species extinction has remained at one species per million per year, furthermore, the accelerating destruction of habitats throughout the world leads to projections of the loss of two–thirds of all species on earth by the end of this century, and millions of years to recover from the Cretaceous period (mindfully.org, 2013). As individuals, we obtain our food, directly or indirectly from plants, for example, plant our primary use of medicines. Biodiversity also determines the properties of communities and ecosystems, which capture energy from the sun. The world is less resilient, more homogeneous, less interesting, and with fewer opportunities for our descendants

  • 5. EPA Protecting the Planet Essay The environment and the health of the surrounding population go hand in hand. The Environmental Protection Agency takes on this ever so important mission of protecting them both. The mission statement of the EPA states, "The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Small Business Programs is to support the protection of human health and the environment by advocating and advancing the business, regulatory, and environmental compliance concerns of small and socio–economically disadvantaged businesses, and minority academic institutions (US Enviromental Protection Agency, 2010)." The impact of its mission can be defined clearly as it examines the impact of contamination in the air, the water, and the land on human health. The EPA...show more content... Enviromental Protection Agency, 2011). Children may be more susceptible to environmental exposure than adults; hence, protecting them from such exposure is vital for their livelihoods. In 1997 President William J. Clinton issued (CLINTON, 1997). The EO was designed to protection children from environmental health and safety risks. Multiple reasons support the idea that kids are more likely to come in contact with environmental health hazards. To educate the populous on such matters the EPA formed the (TEACH) website. The goal of the TEACH project is to complement existing children's health resources. TEACH does not provide an evaluation or critique the validity of the relevant scientific studies; nor does TEACH derive toxicity values. Instead, the goal of TEACH is to summarize, compile, and organize information obtained from numerous resources into one online resource. TEACH is designed to support numerous efforts throughout the country that target the protection of children's health (EPA, 2009). Molds can be found roughly everywhere on the planet as long as the two most basic life requirements are available, moisture and oxygen. When too much moisture is available mold growth will take place, especially if the moisture is not controlled. Eliminating all molds and mold spores is nearly impossible, but it can be controlled and is supported by the Clean Air Act. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. The role business can play in protecting the environment "...shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand." (Matthew 7:26, King James Bible) There can be little doubt that mankind and indeed the whole planet is facing an environmental crisis. Whether that crisis is brought to a head by global warming, ozone depletion, acid rain, tropical deforestation or top soil erosion, remains to be seen. In this essay we will examine the role business is playing in creating this crisis and what it can do to help protect the environment in the future. Business produces the goods and services that meet our needs, wants and desires. It is this process that has lead to much of the destruction of the environment that...show more content... It is clear now that economic growth without heed to the environmental cost can no longer be the main objective of business; growth without recognition of the environmental cost is unjustifiable. We know that new technologies and processes are not sufficient to meet the demands of the issues at hand. It would also be foolish for us to rely solely or even heavily on the possibility that science and technology will cure the ills of the past and provide us with new streams of growth for the future. Fundamentally there is a need for a change of attitude towards production and consumption, but more importantly there is a need to become ethically aware of the total, comprehensive cost of business, that is not just its economic cost but also its social and environmental costs. We must discover new and innovative ways to organize the business culture within the existing free market economy, under governmental and social regulation while promoting sustainable production and growth for the future. On a global scale there are conflicts in business as to how this might be achieved. There are those in the emerging economies who protest that the environmental destruction to date has been caused by the developed world. The developed world has been careless and reckless in its treatment of the planet and has benefitted significantly from this negligence, but now that impending disaster has been detected they insist that all economies, including the underdeveloped, must bear Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Roosevelt saw from the beginning how humans messed up the environment, for example the transcontinental which cut into many of the animals grazing lands. Buffalo were being killed in very high numbers based on the fact that the skins were valued very highly. Theodore Roosevelt spent most of his life trying to protect a great majority of the natural resources and wildlife. He took note of the fact that without the help of people trying to conserve natural resource that there would not be any left for future generations. Roosevelt was personally responsible for the conservation of about two hundred and thirty million Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Simple Ways to Protect Our Natural Environment Simple Ways to Protect Our Natural Environment The natural environment consist of all living and non–living things occurring naturally on Earth. It is an environment that encompasses the interaction of all living species. The concept of the natural environment can be separate by components that includes complete ecological units that function as natural systems and natural phenomena that occur within their boundaries. Universal natural resources and physical phenomena are such as air, water, and climate, as well as energy, radiation, electric charge and magnetism. The environment is very important as it has so many benefits for us and for our young but recently the percentage of pollution and energy waste has recorded an ascending rate....show more content... This prevents accumulation of sediment and prolongs the life of your water heater. Thirdly, we focus on our shopping habit. Plastic bags are not biodegradable even if they say they are they do not decompose fully. Also the ink is made up of cadmium, and is highly toxic when it is released. Whereas paper bags are reusable and biodegradable. However supermarkets use paper that has never been recycled before and they always say "recyclable" not "recycled". Here is what you can do: if your purchase is small don't take any bag, this alone could save hundreds of millions of bags. Bring a cloth bag when you shop, or use string bags. Then , those who have babies are recommended to use cloth diapers. Americans trash over 18 billion disposable diapers a year, this amount can go to the moon and back seven times. These disposable diapers consume 1,265,000 metric tons of wood pulp and 75,000 metric tons of plastic. After using disposable diapers we are supposed to wash them out, only 5% of us do. Meaning that millions of tons of dirt, possibly disease infected diapers wind up in our so called "sanitary" landfills. In fact three million tons of untreated feces and urine does not go through our sewage system but into our landfills. Over 100 different diseases are known to be excreted in human feces that they can seep into our groundwater. Finally, if you want to do painting, be aware of your paint you use . • 9. Ways to Protect the Environment. I really love trying to protect the world/environment through many ways such as recycling, picking up trash, no polluting and decrease pollution overall, saving animal habitats and so much more. We should care for the environment because its our real home, we live in it and we dont want a nasty living of trash every where with stenches, also animals can die from our trashes such in beaches, they can get stuck in the can plastics. We need to recycle because recycling takes trash and processes it in some way to make a useful product. Composting falls into this category. Glass, plastics, paper, steel, and cardboard are other materials that may be recycled. The added benefit of compost is that it can be done in your own backyard. We stiill...show more content... So just recycle cause you dont want o have a landfill start piling up to your back yard do you? save the hassle, save the space because recycling saves natural resources, reduces land pollution and also air pollution as many products require more energy to produce them than to recycle them. • 10. How Do Nnrs Protect The Environment How do National Nature Reserves (NNRs) protect the environment through deer control whilst also conserving the population? National Nature Reserves (NNRs) are statutory sites where the primary land use is nature management, they offer distinctive opportunities for research regarding fauna, flora and the earth itself. Alexander (2013) states that in order for areas to be classed as National Nature Reserves "They have to be of national importance for wildlife or earth science." Most NNRs have species and habitats which are nationally essential so the wildlife is managed rigorously. When referring to Scottish National Heritage, the general purpose of NNRs is to protect an area of important wildlife so that everyone can be proud and appreciative Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Epa's Responsibility To Protect The Environment The Environmental Protection Agency, or EPA, is an extremely vital function to our society. The EPA makes laws and regulations for businesses and citizens to follow to make our world safer and to protect it for the future generations. Most educated people can agree that we do have a responsibility to do something about climate change and the difference we can make is through the EPA. Because of our free market companies will do anything they can to provide cheap goods and this usually comes at a price to the environment. The EPA can help make regulation that forces companies to abide by business practices that do not harm the environment. If the EPA were to relax their regulations our world wouldn't be the same for future generations. With Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Since the environmental movement began four decades ago, there have been many differing opinions as to what role the government should play in protecting and preserving the environment. What standards should government set and at what expense? Most environmental or "green" issues are often presented as choices of either economic growth or environmental protection. This idea of having to choose between the environment and the economy has often delayed the green movement from making necessary strides. However, more and more Americans are currently looking toward options that include both environmental protection and economic growth. During the 1970's the war to protect the environment often focused on "point...show more content... One example that the study cited was the Gulf of Mexico's "dead zone". The "dead zone" is an area that in uninhabitable by marine life during the summer because of a lack of oxygen. Within the last decade, the area has doubled in size to 7,000 square miles. Perhaps the strongest example of a potentially disastrous problem with few tangible manifestations is global warming. Despite mounting evidence that confirms a rise in global temperatures and a change in the climate due to carbon emissions, deep differences exist about the urgency of climate change and who should bear the burden of addressing it. In 1997, all these differing sides met for negotiations to put together a global warming treaty in Kyoto, Japan. Differences were between skeptics and believers, "have" and have–not" countries, free market proponents and environmental advocates. The Kyoto treaty would require all industrial nations to reduce their production of polluting gases below the 1990 levels. The U.S. target was a seven percent reduction by 2008. Unfortunately, the treaty was rejected by the Bush administration for fear that it would impose too great of an economic burden. Instead of the treaty, President Bush has proposed voluntary measures, backed by government tax credits, to slow the growth of greenhouse Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. The importance of the environment appears when many disconcerting events throughout the years have emerged: tsunami and flooding, drought and starving, pollution, declining animal populations and many others. Looking behind these events is make us realize that we have caused irreversible damaged, through our daily behaviors. We now live in a modern, consumerist and largely urban existence throughout the developed world and we consume a lot of natural resources every day. ENVS course focuses on understanding cause and effect of social, economic and environmental impacts between our need and our product technologically and economically, and how to protect the environments in which we and others live. In ENVS class we do not learn just about the environment, but also about our health as a society in ensuring that no people or areas of life suffer as a result of, and also about examining the longer–term effects of the human activities and asking questions about how it improved and to ensure the quality of life for this and future generations. Teaching students about sustainability have been very important. It develops the knowledge, values, and worldviews required to make certain that there's enough for everyone, forever. It's different to other learning areas as it focuses on protecting natural environments and creating an ecologically and socially just world through informed action. In other words, sustainable development is a inseparable system of economic, social, resource and protection of environmental which not only can attain the objective of economic development, but also it can protect the natural resources of atmospheric, freshwater, marine and environment. It can make the future generations live and work in peace and environmental protection. Sustainable development has the connection with environmental protection, but it cannot be equated with environmental protection. environmental protection is one of the important aspect of environmental protection. The core of sustainable development is development, but the premise of social and economic development is controlling of population strictly, improving the quality of people, protecting the environment and using the resources permanently. There are 5 main points of sustainable development nowadays: 1. the support of development, 2. the cleanness of water, 3. the green trade, 4. the exploitation of energy, 5. the protection of environment. Specifically, the support of development is that developed countries enlarge the economic assistance to the developing countries. The proportion of the assistance should reach 0.7% of GDP. 2. the cleanness of water means that economizing the water for half of the population who are short of Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Some people in politics will see somethings as important while others are an afterthought. We see this now in capitol hill on how our congressmen are handling women contraceptive and birth control. The census is a must for voting for new laws and bills in our society, but we would also need to implicate an incentive strategy to motivate companies to go green and protect our environment. In class, I only was thinking about hurting these companies' pockets and implementing hard penalties. The civil society would have to pay fines for breaking environmental laws. The big businesses are profiting and are in favor of deforestation, desertification, and losing fresh water are a few things talked about in this chapter. These are the things that need to be fixed if we, the people of Earth, want to minimize the changes of climate and its effects. In the deforestation front, almost half of the tropical forest is lost to deforestation, and this causes the world to lose plant species and animal species when their habitats are destroyed. We can see the market field at work in deforestation because 3% of tropical forest are being reported as managed by the Tropical Timber Organization, while Two–thirds of the forest is designate to a management regime. We are seeing acres of forest not being reported properly because of corruption, cronyism, and illegal logging, (Speth pg. 30) We are losing our land that is productive for agriculture, and it is turning into a wasteland that is not usable. This is called desertification, and fifty million acres of land has been lost to desertification each year. (Speth pg. 31) This kills the production of food for billions of people, and these people are in areas that deal with famines and drought. It can be fixed if we are concerned with out agriculture process and handling. Over–cultivation, overgrazing, and poor irrigation practices are some of the big habits that cause land to become deserts. • 16. Importance Of Protecting The Environment Essay Our environment undoubtedly has many things we can use to benefit our everyday lives. Even if our environment is not in tip–top shape, we need to start taking care of it better. If we don't many things will happen. These things include plants dying, animals going extinct, air becoming polluted, coral reefs dying, and water rapidly coming contaminated. Another problem our environment has to face, overcome, or adapt too is Global Warming. Global Warming has and will continue to impact our environment worldwide if we do not begin taking immediate action and do something to protect our environment. Protecting our environment is indeed the first action that should be taken. Protecting the environment should take place locally and globally in my opinion. There are many things that our local environment could do that would have have a tremendous impact on our environment that genuinely would not take oodles of effort. A few of these could be as easy as recycling soda cans, old school or work papers, and glass bottles and taking them to a local recycling center. When you recycle you are reusing things or making them into new things. Two more examples would be hosting or participating in a highway clean up, or planting a community garden at a park. Globally, humans are responsible for Greenhouse Gasses, pollution, and fossil fuel shortages. Globally, if everyone pitched in just a little bit, greenhouse gas emissions could go down drastically. The way we could cut these emissions Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Should we keep the Environmental Protection Agency? The EPA is the environmental protection agency and they deal with keeping the environment clean and they enforce the laws to keep it clean. The agency was put together by President Richard Nixon on December 2, 1970. He put them together to enforce the fines, sanctions and other measures. Their headquarters is in Washington D.C.The Environmental Protection Agency always has people wondering where they get the money, what they will change, and how they help the world. Bill Clinton elected the head of the environmental protection agency when he was elected and he chose Florida's secretary of environmental regulations. To start off, President Bill Clinton elected Carol Browner to run the environmental protection agency (Carol M. Browner 50). Carol Browner sticks up to what she feels is important for today's society. To continue, Browner won her role by getting her respect gained in 2 cases as Florida's secretary of environmental regulations (Carol M. Browner 50). Browner was standing her ground when the federal government went after Florida to restore the everglades. Lastly, Roosevelt and Pinchot were focused on the wise and efficient use of natural resources (Geary 226). Roosevelt and Pinchot did whatever they needed to get more information on natural resources. Bill Clinton chose Carol M. Browner because he knew that she would do her best in this position and with all of her experience for this position and also Roosevelt wanted to make the environment better for today's society and also for all of the societies to still come. The Environmental Protective Agency works hard to make the environment better and they also work hard to get enough money to fund it. According to multiple reports President Lyndon Johnson, "took an interest in preservationist issues" (Girard 100). President Johnson was interested in the Environmental Protection Agency and wanted to do whatever it was to be a part of it. To continue, a case of environmental policy development, insufficient evidence to the benefit that environmental goods provide to society and to see if it cost–benefit analysis against environmental protection (Geary 226). • 18. The EPA: Protecting The Environment Protecting the environment is crucial to life on earth. The EPA ( Environmental Protection Agencies) mission is to protect human health and the environment. EPA was founded on December 2, 1970 to work for a cleaner, healthier environment for the American Citizens. The Head quarters for EPA are located in Washington D.C.. They have many alternate locations around the nation. Places like New York and Texas are some of the places where they serve many states at the same time. They have 10 regions and they all serve five states each. Having these divisions all spread out through the country gives the environment in all of the regions of the U.S equal health. The function for each of these regions is to maintain the health of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Introduction Over the past few decades, technologies have made a few great contributions to the environmental protection. Renewable technologies have reduced the demand of fossil fuel; computer technologies have enabled paperless office into reality and thus decreasing the number of trees used to produce paper. Therefore, I have come in to believe that technologies will serve as a major role in protecting the environment, both in the present and future. However, due to certain limitations like political agenda in the current globalized world, the role of technologies may be suppressed and may only be fulfilled in the future. Current Perspective One of the most significant technological advancement today that aimed to protect our...show more content... They have allowed us to glimpse the capability of today's technologies to protect our environment through substituting other environmentally–unfriendly but yet essential products. Adding to that, the creation of recycling technologies such as Reverse Osmosis (RO) that separated human waste from the water and the Twin–Chamber Melting Furnace (TCF) that recycled aluminum has proven to us the potential these technologies have in minimizing the environmental threats. By utilizing these technologies, environments can be better protected from dangers such as arsenic pollution. But everything has two–dimensions and that is true for technology as well. One of the greatest problems to such inability of the current technologies to protect our environment is the insufficient energy generated from the renewable technologies. According to his book Sustainable Energy without Hot Air, David JC Mackay has made it clear that the amount of energy generated by renewable energy technologies can only satisfy the need for Britain if it were country–sized. This means that even developed country will rely heavily on burning of "black gold" such as oil and coal to produce energy for its daily consumption and so, it will be even more worrisome for the developing countries with a greater energy needs. Therefore, environmental issues such as acid rains and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. Caring About Our Environment Essay Caring About Our Environment Improving and maintaining the earth's environment is becoming a more important task every day of our lives. Due to ignorance and frequent carelessness, this important task is quickly becoming a critical one. For this reason, I took it upon myself to construct a strategic plan to enlighten my peers to the problems of our environment. I did this in hopes that it would encourage everyone to act responsibly towards improving and maintaining the environment. With ongoing threats to the earth's water supply, atmosphere, and surface, I found it necessary to devise a method of environmental enlightenment. I plan to apply this method at my place of academic study, The University. If supported by the faculty...show more content... I recently discovered that one cheeseburger takes more than 700 gallons of water to produce (includes water consumed by cows, water used to irrigate the cornfields that feed the cows, and the water used to produce the beef and cheese). When considering the millions of cheeseburgers that are consumed worldwide everyday, it is evident that the earth's water supply is declining rapidly. Due to air pollution, theozone layer is also being consumed at an extreme rate. Its arch nemesis is the various fumes from cars and factories. Scientists estimate that each 1% drop in ozone levels causes a 3 to 6% rise in skin cancer cases. Since the ozone layer prevents most ultraviolet and other high–energy radiation from penetrating to the earth's surface, this is a crisis that has to be rectified. The ozone's depletion has dropped to a level so thin that if we brought it down to Earth, it would only be as deep as the thickness of three dimes. The only positive outlook concerning this matter is that the ozone has the ability to reconstruct itself when UV–C rays break the bond of O2. Single oxygen atoms combine with O2 to form ozone (UV–B rays limit this process still yet). This evidence shows that the world is in dire need of an environmental resurrection. In order for this to occur and be successful, it would require an effort by every individual nation of our world. My resolution requires that The University of South Carolina Get more content on HelpWriting.net
