The practice of caring for the individual needs of each student should transform schools and society. The transformation is dependent on the market
reaction to the personalized learning and care shown to students. As schools moved to an industrial model where bigger, impersonal, standardized
learning became the norm, student's needs became secondary. Kittay (2011) argues that all people have a need for dependency for care from others.
Schools are built to provide care, but often fall under the category of being an institution. The impersonal nature of institutional schools has led to larger
buildings, higher classes sizes, and curriculum geared for testing. This is not just a phenomenon in public schools where No Child Left Behind has left
schools adjusting the curriculum to meet standards for continued funding. Standardization has also become wide spread within the independent school
communities.

Nursing was a challenge to the individual and I had to experience an identity I had never previously thought about which was being a male within a
predominantly female career field. As Yang et al. (2004) showed males in their study work towards promotion and strive on a long term goal of
personal growth. In previous fields I had always fought for advancement and now I still do and have been equally been treated among my peers and
have seen that advancement truly can only come from pursuing an advanced degree. My goal of becoming a mental health nurse practitioner stems as
well from another belief I have of nursing; advancing for the betterment of patient care. The advanced practice nurse basis their practice on evidence

Somewhat similar to perennialism, essentialism also focuses on absolutes, believing in a certain knowledge standard, teaching students the
fundamentals of math, science, literature, history and language, basically the layout of our days in middle school. Often referred to, as "back to the
basics" essentialism is a dominant approach to American education. Although I disagree with some of the more recent campaigns that have branched
from it, such as No Child Left Behind, I do believe that its highly effective and gives students the opportunity to balance their education among the

Wanting to become a kindergarten teacher, I strongly believe in the value of good elementary schools. I think the emphasis of the curriculum should

information every day. Education continually brings us new adventures just waiting for us to experience its wonder and possibilities. I believe that
students, when presented with a wide variety of interesting lessons, can become interested and motivated in a way that they never have before. A
large part of my educational philosophy is based on the fundamentals of Progressivism. This philosophy, founded by John Dewey, organizes schools
around the concerns, curiosity, and real world experiences of students. I agree with these ideas because people must continually learn to keep up
with today's fast paced world. I believe that when learning is relevant and enjoyable students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own
learning. Progressivism has respect for individuality, a high regard for science, and a receptivity to change that I feel is critical to successful
education. As a Progressive teacher I will facilitate learning by helping students formulate meaningful questions and devise strategies to answer those

The transformation is dependent on the market reaction to the personalized learning and care shown to students. As schools moved to an industrial model where bigger, impersonal, standardized learning became the norm, student's needs became secondary. Kittay (2011) argues that all people have a need for dependency for care from others. Schools are built to provide care, but often fall under the category of being an institution. The impersonal nature of institutional schools has led to larger buildings, higher classes sizes, and curriculum geared for testing. This is not just a phenomenon in public schools where No Child Left Behind has left schools adjusting the curriculum to meet standards for continued funding. Standardization has also become wide spread within the independent school communities. Progressivism has respect for individuality, a high regard for science, and a receptivity to change that I feel is critical to successful education. As a Progressive teacher I will facilitate learning by helping students formulate meaningful questions and devise strategies to answer those questions. Personal Statement: My Personal Philosophy My personal philosophy is made up of a combination of questions and ideas from the three branches of philosophy: metaphysics, epistemology, and ethics. Metaphysics is the study of where the world comes from, what it is made of, and if anything is eternal or changing. In my opinion killing innocent people is wrong, but killing high profile criminals in not wrong. You can apply killing people to two different scenarios and one seems right and is wrong. Another Ethics question is, how do we determine how to behave? We determine how to behave using education from our family and school. At a young age we may see someone behave poorly, but because we are young our brain sees this behavior as the way to behave. We act how the people around us act because their behavior influences everyone around them. Do we have something/someone to fear or respect?
