When the quarter started, I wrote that I had very little knowledge of Greek mythology outside of Disney's Hercules, or bits and pieces that explained
themselves in the context of modern day culture. It wasn't that Greek mythology wasn't a subject that interested me; I had just never been given the

Mythology has been at the center of every civilization; humans have been relying on myth to explain religion, history, and morality. Literature evolved
from myth and employs similar motifs; authors have often appropriated mythology to create allegories, metaphors, and analogies in their works.
Exploring the relationship between these mediums attracted my attention. Throughout the first half of the course, we've been exploring the campus,
examining the haibun form, and discussing how certain events have been mythologized in modern day. Our focus has been on discovering this
relationship through doing, which has not been the most conducive learning experience for me, yet the benefits cannot be denied. Arriving on campus
was an overwhelming experience: new people, new places, new country. The change was jarring at times; however, exploring the campus made the
situation less disorienting and more manageably, in the process I've discovered study spaces besides the noisy cacophony of College Library and
hidden gems in campus buildings. The myths of our university have added a new layer to my experience here, invoking a certain allure –– haunted
halls, age–old graduation traditions, pre–exam good luck charms –– all revealing the true character of the campus; giving me more reasons to enjoy it.

Another myth that perhaps contributes to creation is the structural myth theory. A structural myth theory suggests that a myth maybe characterized after
human intellect and human nature. Basically the idea of the structural myth theory is an encounter between both good and bad and proposes examples
of both acceptable and unacceptable behavior. This type of myth displays the positive and the negative characteristics of human nature. Structural myth

One of the most interesting qualities of Greek mythology is probably the depiction of monsters in the myths. However, these monsters are not all
unique. In fact, they all fall into very distinct categories, making them almost the same. Most monsters in Greek mythology look and act in the same
ways. Several monsters from these myths look the same in that they have very similar qualities such as being large, snake or human like. However,
they are also very alike in that they behave in very similar ways, from guarding something or roaming freely and causing chaos. Generally, the monsters

because she turns people to stone. Overall, there are several monsters that contain snake–like characteristics and it is used to show them as an evil part
of society. Probably some of the most fearsome and violent monsters contain characteristics of a lion. A prime example is the Nemean lion. This
lion was vicious and could not be hurt by bronze or stone. Since the lion is a very powerful and fierce animal, this monster is especially feared
because it is partially lion and invincible to weapons. The Griffin is another ferocious monster that has the body of a lion but the head and wings
of an eagle. It is especially known to guard treasure. It is a mix of the lion, the king of beast, and the eagle, king of birds, so it was very powerful.
In general, monsters with lion characteristics are very powerful and feared. Several monsters such as the Minotaur, Medusa, and centaurs appear to
be partially human. The Minotaur, for example, has the head of a bull but the body of a man. He was born as the offspring of Minos's wife and a
beautiful bull sent by Poseidon. However, Minos's wife was forced to love the bull by Poseidon. On the other hand, Medusa was born a beautiful
woman until she upset Athena who turned her into a terrifying monster
