Teacher Evaluation Essay
In 2009, the Race to the Top education initiative used federal grants to incentivize states to enact rigorous teaching reforms in K–12 education. The
Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) of 2015 built off the progress of this reform by urging states to explicitly define and improve teacher quality
assessments. Today, states are tasked with identifying the goals and components of an effective, evidenced–based teacher assessment system.
Attracting high–quality novice teachers, retaining and rewarding effective veteran teachers, and improving developing teachers constitute the three
main goals of a rigorous an effective teacher evaluation system.

However, standards–based observations create a rigorous, objective, and measurable rubric for educators to evaluate the quality of teacher performance:
unsatisfactory, basic, proficient, and distinguished. These clear observation scales limit subjective bias given that it is clearly defined assessment
rubric. However, accountability measures linked to a "limited sample of instruction can potentially effect reliability" and increase educational budget
costs for administrative evaluation To that end, a teacher's instructional performance does not correlate with student achievement nor does it measure
other qualities, such as "soft–skills". The value–added test provides an objective measure of assessment, emphasizing growth over proficiency. A
teacher assessment system which uses value–added measurements captures a holistic evaluation of a teacher's performance. Meanwhile, a
proficiency–based test demonstrates a student's ability to meet a benchmark on one test–an isolated measure. Value–added measures recognize the need
for growth for all students, regardless of knowledge or skill. However, "a system based only on value–added measures would not be helpful for
identifying the most effective teachers in a district." It is difficult to institute a common benchmark for value–added performance, given that student
achievement across a district varies and scores are highly unpredictable from year to year. Additionally, students'

My Career as a Teacher Essay
As I begin my rewarding career as I teacher, I sit and reflect on what my goals and priorities are in the classroom. I am excited to be engaged in a
future career where I can implement my own beliefs and mold the future into something extremely positive. I believe the most important aspects that I
want to bring to my students are threefold: I want to educate, motivate, and inspire.
In order to have a productive learning environment where I will be able to educate my students, many different factors must take place. First and
foremost, it is important to me that I master exceptional classroom management skills. Effective and efficient learning takes place when expectations in
the classroom are consistent and clear. Also, discipline in...show more content...
These learning styles include; auditory, visual, and kinesthetic. By mastering and using as many learning styles as I can, I will make sure each student
is able to get the most out of their learning experience. I understand that every child learns differently and understanding how to use different
approaches in each lesson plan will benefit every student. Not only is it important to use different learning styles but I will also use different teaching
styles during the curriculum. The different methods I would like to use to teach my lessons include but are not limited to; scientific investigation which
uses the scientific method. The scientific method includes first investigating the problem, coming up with a logical hypothesis, performing the
experiment, reading the results, and finally completing an analysis of the results. The next method I would explore is decision making which is the
thought process of selecting a logical choice from the available options. Next is problem solving. When I teach the students to problem solve
accurately they be able to overcome obstacles and find a solution that best resolves the issue. Next, I will help my students think critically which
includes identification and evaluation to problem solving. Finally, I will use the method of cooperative learning which is an approach to organizing
classroom activities into academic and social learning experience. I believe that every one of these method can be valued

During my time on the PGDE Course both in University based learning, and more evidently during my Professional Practise placements, I have come
to realise the significance of reflection within the teaching profession. Not only does reflecting on best practise benefit the children's learning but also
increases the teacher's confidence and ability in making decisions and delivering lessons. 'Reflective teaching is a great deal to do with facing such
features of ourselves in a constructive and objective manner which incorporates a continuous capacity to change and develop' (Moon, 2004).
Since embarking on the course I now question my own actions and assess the best alternatives to develop my practise by taking constructive criticism

'Reflective teachers need to be able to relate their findings to those of others and to consider results in the context of the current debates about
educational issues' (Pollard, 2008). Having a range of theorist's viewpoints, tried and tested ways of teaching, and working with more experienced
professionals has furthered my knowledge and understanding. I do not believe teachers are required to know everything there is to know about all
subjects but will have more expertise in some subjects than others. The subjects and topics which they have limited experience in will require a
professional commitment in order to research. This research ultimately builds teacher's knowledge and understanding to plan more interesting and
effective lessons. Curriculum for Excellence is allowing teachers more flexibility to organise and deliver the experiences and outcomes in a more
effective way for learners. In delivering the various curricular areas I have become more confident in subjects which I felt less confident in at the start
of the course.
I have found that through additional reading I am better equipped to question and suggest methods tried by others in professional disscussions. I found
that attending In–service day training and Continued Professional Development (CPD) sessions has increased my knowledge and understanding
allowing me to develop lessons which are more rewarding for the

My Teachers Marked Me Absent
One day at school, two of my teachers marked me absent when I was not. The way I learned about it was because my Nana got a phone call from
the office saying I was absent. She felt that the problem needed to be solved as quickly as possible. When she told me I was shocked! She then
asked me where I had been so she could understand why they marked me absent. I told her I was in class and that I had gone to the bathroom so that
is how they could have marked me absent. Then a little bit later my mom came home, she had asked me where I had been and I told her the same thing.
Next my mom called the school, they were of no help. The principal tried to talk to me the next day but he was unable to because I was out sick. The
day after that he came

Elementary School Teaching Essay
Elementary School Teaching Elementary School Teacher
Elementary school teachers teach pupils at levels kindergarten through sixth grade or, in some cases, through eighth grade a wide range of academic,
social, emotional, and motor skills. They plan and present programs of instruction using methods and materials to meet the needs of the students. In
order for all this to happen though, Elementary School Teachers must have a passion for educating as well as love children.
Education requires dedication, organization, and thought out lesson plans on a daily basis. To ensure that the students get top–notch education,
teachers attend staff meetings, serve on committees, and attend workshops or in–service training activities....show more content...
Although many teachers usually work alone in a class with a group of students, an increasing number of schools are now providing teacher aides
who are supervised by the teacher, assist with clerical tasks, lunch and playground activities. About one public Elementary School Teacher in six is
a member of a teaching team in which two or more teachers work closely teacher. An example of is would be when I was in fifth grade. My
teacher, who graded, inspired, and taught me was Mr. Dekire. But Mrs. Biro team taught with Mr. Dekire and it would be like Mrs. Biro would do
lectures and Mr. Dekire would do group work. This cuts down on the amount of work one person must have accomplished for the student. As a
future teacher, I would hope to have an aide. Therefore, I would have more time for lesson planning and organizing the class. Not to mention, I would
have more time socially to relax. Public Elementary Teachers in Michigan spend an average of 36 hours per week in the classroom and an additional
9 or so hours grading papers, attending meetings, keeping records, making reports, and supervising after–school activities. With an aide, I feel those 9
hours would cut down dramatically for the teacher.
The nature of work for Elementary School Teachers is that they play a vital role in the development of children. What children learn and experience
during their early years can shape their views of humanity, and affect future success or failure in school, work, and their

Should Teachers Be Graded Too Essay
It has come to my attention that teachers need some work on the way they teach, just how students need to work on their struggles. In order to find
out where the teachers need some work we will need to grade to them. We can do this by having students answer a series of questions, like a survey,
questions like do you feel comfortable around teacher, does your classroom feel like a family ect. . So I think teachers should be graded too.
To begin, one reason I think teachers should be graded too is because it will improve their teaching skills. Eric S. Taylor and John H. Tyler state " We
find that teachers are more effective at raising student achievement during the school year when they are being evaluated than they were previously, and

Mrs. Campbell states " I was not scoring where I wanted to with questions like " I feel comfortable with asking my teacher for help", or "My
teacher really cares about me" I was below average, I don't want to be below average". This shows how it can change the connection between
students and teachers , like Ms. Campbell stated she was below average and didn't want to be, that gives her a chance to change. Although, teachers
might get their feelings hurt when they get a bad grade. However, they could benefit from it as well because it can help them see where they need to
improve in their teaching. According to Eric S. Taylor and John H. Tyler schools who have completed the evaluation are seeing results, "A student
instructed by a teacher after that teacher has been through the Cincinnati evaluation will score about 11 percent of a standard deviation higher in math
than a similar student taught by the same teacher before the teacher was evaluated". For instance if more schools around the world were to complete
these evaluations we would see rapid improvement everywhere. Finally, I believe that we should grade/evaluate teachers too. If we do start grading
teachers around the the world some changes we would see are improvement it the teachers skills, when a teacher can not help a struggling student, and
the connection between teachers and students. This is a very important topic

Becoming a teacher can be an exciting and challenging experience for anyone. It can be quite difficult to put four years of knowledge into their
teaching and into a classroom environment. And while it may seem challenging at first it does become easier over time.
A teacher is not only someone who teaches, but they are a symbol of learning.
A teacher is a person who plays the most important role in the development of any student. The future of those students depends on the qualities and the
dedication of that teacher. It is the teacher who creates an interest in students to develop and to progress. It is the teacher who helps the students
achieve whatever aims they set for themselves.

The curriculum then becomes more relevant, therefore the motivation for the students to accomplish the tasks increases.
The subject matter not only has to be relevant but it also has to be stimulating to the students' curiosity. If a student is bored with the content, they are
not going to want to learn it.
The classroom also has to be seen as a caring and supportive place with a sense of belonging. Every student must feel respected, valued and heard.
Giving children the support for learning by welcoming their questions and encouraging exploration is very important for teachers to do.
Extrinsic motivators are sometimes used when teachers have a student or class who feels like they have earn't something for their hard work. This
could be things such as stickers or stamps on their homework and tests. Or it could be receiving verbal or written praise. It could be just the thing that
motivates certain students. But not all students need to be extrinsically motivated. Teachers need to find out which type of motivation works best for
which student to help them succeed.
Classroom teaching is more likely to be effective when it is informed by an understanding of how students learn. Constructivism is the current approach
to learning in Australian schools today. Constructivism is how each student goes about constructing his or her own knowledge. This type of

My Teaching Experience Essay
When I first come to Saint Cloud High School, I was uncertain of how I would fit into the world of education as a teacher, in fact, this was my
first teaching practice. After completing a few observations, I changed my view and recognized my teaching abilities. I was able to learn many
different things that will be helpful to me when I become a certified teacher someday. Although I could face many possible challenges in the
classroom, I have many of the strengths it takes to be a good teacher. There were many times during this field training that gave me a broad idea of
how the ordinary life of a teacher would go. Similarly, I got a profound sense of how the classroom environment is for most instructors. In general, I
believe this was a pleasant experience for me, and I learned a lot in such a brief period.
The educational unit I executed has an element of my instruction beliefs that students should connect and relate theme content to real life situations
inside and outside the teaching space. Therefore, during my teaching experience, I feel compromise and responsible for meeting my students' needs and
that is why I included many visuals aids and plenty of flexible activities. Hence, this unit involved a mixture of student and teacher–centered strategies
such as direct instruction, drill and practice of the unit vocabulary, lectures, dialogues, question and answer sessions, discussions with exchanges of
opinions and perspectives, discovery learning events and presentations

What Do Teachers Expect From Their Students?
What do teacher expect from their students? Possibly to devote at least 3 hours studying out of classroom meeting time. Could it be to earn all A's?
Could their expectation be irrational? To be clear on what teacher expectations are, teacher expectations are prophecies to principles about current levels
of capability and performance, to views about students ' normative behavior (fundamentally, cooperativeness, rule–following, etc.). From experience, as
an early childhood educator who is teaching 2.5 – 3.5–year–old children, I expect them to follow directions, and to be mindful of safety and classroom
rules at all times. These expectations of mine come from not only the knowledge of the developmental stages of a child, but along with how I think a
2.5– 3.5 child should behave. Because of creating these expectations for my young toddler students, a self–fulfilling prophecy is formed. A self–
fulfilling prophecy is a prediction that directly or indirectly causes itself to become true, by the very terms of the prophecy itself, due to positive
feedback between belief and behavior. These self– fulfilling prophecies created by teachers can have a tremendous impact on student lives. The
accuracy of teacher expectations and how powerful teacher expectation effects students are strongly contrariwise associated: As accuracy increases, the
likelihood for self–fulfilling prophecies declines; as accuracy decreases, the likelihood for self–fulfilling prophecies increases (Jussim & Harber,

Autobiography Of A Teacher
As children, we absorb information and learn from experiences that mold us into who we are. Many individuals impact a child's life, but the most
powerful and influential role lies in a devoted teacher, a teacher provides growth to students as a gardener would to a garden of flowers. Each child
can bloom into a thriving flower so long as you water their garden with optimism, love, patience, and guidance. Throughout my educational
experiences I was lucky enough to have educators who poured their knowledge and optimism into me, and now I would like to reciprocate that back
to students who are in the position I was once in. Balancing life and school is hard enough for a student, but a powerful and caring teacher can steer
you in the right direction. In this autobiography you will read about my educational background, experiences that influenced my decision to become a
teacher, and what I believe the role of a teacher should be in a student's life. As a student I went to multiple schools, I went to three different elementary
schools, two middle schools, and two high schools in Brownsville, and through it all I had great experiences. Brownsville is a humble community with
low socioeconomic status, but rich in culture, history, and unity. In retrospect, the socioeconomic status was changing as I attended different schools,
depending on the area of the school, of course. I was able to see peers of mine with different statuses than the person next to them, some more affluent

Essay On Why Teachers Should Be Armed
T he first main idea, that has been argued much more then needed, is that teachers will be trained to not shoot kids that are acting up. The teachers
would be attending a gun safety class. Many (as in people against this argument) say that the teachers wouldn't attend this class, but a recent survey,
conducted by the NRA, shows us that 40 million teachers would like to be armed and would take the Gun Safety Test. The course, that which is
mandatory, would likely e sponsored by the NRA. The course that the teachers would be attending, is a 40–60 hours a week course (in the summer
time), and the course doesn't stop until the teacher can pass the exam. The exam is simply being able to hold a gun, reaction time, and being able to
know when and when not to shoot. Just recently, 04/10/2017, a school shooting killed two teachers, and injured two students, both kids being injured
severely. If those teachers in San Bernardio where armed, they could have saved their lives and those children's futures. Also in 2013 teacher aids, the
principal, the school psychologist, teachers, and 20 children ranging from 6–7 were killed in Sandy Hook, making a death total of 26 people, plus one.
That plus one should not be accounted for, that plus one was the...show more content...
But as in every argument there are very few reason to not be armed, but as in this situation the why's weight out the why not's. The way teachers, right
now, are acting when a shooter comes in, is cowardly. The students are more willing to risk their lives to save their friends, that is true courage. But
the student is unarmed, literally bringing a fist to a gun fight, if the teacher was armed that could change the game of how the shooting could play out.
Either the teacher wins fighting hard, or the teacher dies cowardly. Teachers should be armed for the sake of themselves, piers, and students. Would

Essay about Teachers and Students
Teachers and Students
The education habits of students are rooted in them from the earliest days of their educational careers. The different influences on students, whether it
be inside educational institutions, or outside is huge. The teacher of a classroom is the first and most pertinent influence in a student's educational career.
Teachers provide students with the basic skills they would need to survive not only in the academic world, but also the world beyond. The relationship
between teachers and their students is the key element in creating an educational atmosphere that is both pleasant and effective.

Unconsciously or not, they consistently reinforce and reward more 'feminine' behavior. Although it may be true that boys are more active than girls,
but to say that they are treated differently is to be overly generalizing the situation. A teacher is supposed to be able to handle different types of
children in the classroom, and cater to their activeness or passiveness in a class. For example, a teacher would try to involve a quiet and shy student
as often as possible. The same goes for an active child; the teacher should be able to find activities for that child which would not only educate them,
but also keep them busy.
Thomas provides various arguments as to how boys and girls are different; therefore they are treated differently in a classroom. It cannot be argued
that boys and girls are different, especially at such a young age, but to say that teachers specifically do treat boys in a rougher manner would be going
too far. Thomas introduces the idea that society instills ideas of prejudice towards women in young boys, so that when they do go into a classroom
governed by a female teacher, they are predisposed to be defiant and unruly. In my opinion, it is unfair to judge teachers based on the performance of
their students on various tests. Thomas's article introduces the idea that as the number of female teachers is increasing, the performance of boys in
school is declining. One much question whether it is in fact the teachers who cause this

Secondary School Teacher Nelson Mandela, a famous South–African president, once said, "Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to

help them become successful adults. A teacher can change the outlook of a student and change the eventual outcome of the country. This career is
important to society because the country is dependent on the next generation, and without correct education the world could become very corrupt.

include: hazards, travel, and location. Teachers can work in classrooms, science labs, computer labs, or machine shops. These environments usually
lack necessities for educating students. Some schools fund field trips once or twice a year and the teacher gets to go along to supervise the students on
this trip("High School Teacher"). One hazards of this job is the stress the teacher must endure to complete their job("High School Teachers"). A teacher
must also spend a lot of their own time completing schooling activities to make a class as prepared as possible. Teachers may have to deal with unruly
students depending on the location of the job, and this could cause harm to the teacher physically and mentally("High School Teacher").
The job of a teacher is very vital to the control of the country in future years. The job is growing and will add six percent by 2024. There are

My Most Memorable Teacher
Many of us who have had the luxury of getting an education have had many memorable teachers during our time in school. Some of them are
memorable for being terrible teachers but others are remembered as being very impactful to our maturing minds as we grew up. One of my most
memorable teachers in my middle school years of seventh and eighth grade are of old and grumpy Ms. Smith. Even though she was not the greatest
or most fun, she taught me and many others in my class valuable things and the power of being literate in America. Ms. Smith was a relatively old
lady of African American descent. There were a few things that I noticed about her as soon as I met her. She had a very pungent and elder–like smell
exuding from her. Her smell was so strong that eventually the room would gain this odor and no amount of Febreze wall plugins would relieve our
noses. She also had a weird pinky finger on her right hand that always seemed to be bending in a different direction every day. She dressed in a very
old–fashioned way with flat bottomed shoes and skirts which were very minimal in design and color which may have been a testament to her old
age. On the first day of having her as a teacher in the seventh grade, nobody in my class knew what to expect in all actuality. Her classroom was
rather small and office sized, not really fit to be a classroom with sufficient workspace. All of the desks would squeak when someone took a seat no
matter the size of the person. The classroom was

While growing up and observing my teachers at school, I have learned that it isn't always an easy job. Teachers do everything they can to teach their
students' academic, social and other formative skills. Plenty of my teachers have to deal with complications, most of them being minor, but it isn't
always an easy job helping children, teens and young adults. As a student myself, I know they can be stubborn, unwilling to learn, aggressive, and
irresponsible. Sometimes, they simply don't care. However, that is a teacher's purpose: to help and shape their students to become better learners, so
that they have a clearer understanding regarding a variety of subject matters. Someday, I actually want to become an elementary art teacher, which is

An elementary educator also needs to have a wide personality. By "wide" I mean they should be prepared to multitask, learn not to get distracted
easily and really know how to connect with children. Teaching a child is not easy, so they need to demonstrate self–control, concern, independency,
tolerance, and flexibility. A good teacher is known as a teacher who is willing to help others and learn how to cooperate. Before getting a teaching
degree, the individual will need to take regular high school classes, such as math, science, English, and psychology, have two years of a foreign
language and should consider participating in a teacher's aide program. Then one must continue onto a four year college to get a Bachelor's Degree in
Elementary Education. The placement for an elementary teacher is quite high and it shouldn't be that difficult to find a job. Also, to increase the
chances of getting a job and to increase your salary, a person should also get a Master's Degree. It is not required but it looks better and often helps
the employability of a future education. All the time people ask, "Oh, why do you want to be a teacher, they don't make that much money?" However,
teachers make decent pay. On average, a teacher will make $53,000 per year. In the state of Wisconsin and Minnesota, teachers make the average

My Most Memorable Teachers For some reason or another certain students are drawn to particular teachers while other students are more fond of
others. In my life I have studied under three memorable teachers. Teachers with which I was able to connect, to laugh, to share my misgivings. While
I may have been close with each of these teachers, it is very clear, in retrospect, that each was very unique, and represented an entirely different class of

Her class of teachers take their jobs very seriously, and do not tolerate students who skip or disrupt their classes. These teachers are fun, because once
you get them off on some irrelevant tangent, they will keep themselves going on it for entire class segments, trying to get out years of thought and
consideration in just a short period of time. This is how I got to know my psychology teacher, because I was the one who kept her talking, so that the
class could avoid taking the quiz that none of us had studied for. Teachers like her have the innate gift to educate and entertain, with their
comprehensive lessons and subtle quirks.
Finally, I come to my high school horticulture teacher, whom I studied under for so many years that by the time I was a senior, we talked to each
other on a first name basis. He belonged to a small class of teachers who are personally important to every young adult. This class of teacher is the
buddy, the friend. The teacher with whom you can talk about anything, be it the trouble you have been having with your girlfriend, the high–potency
marijuana that you smoked over the weekend, or just the dirty jokes you heard the day before. These are the teachers with whom you simply share
interests, and thus, get along really well. Having a teacher like this is almost like having a counselor, someone older and wiser than yourself

The Roles Of Teachers ' Teachers
The roles of teachers
I believe teachers play multiple roles that extend beyond the classroom. They take classes continuously, attend professional development sessions, and
research new approaches to learning on their own time. These are done with the purpose of expanding their knowledge in teaching and to ensure that
the school day runs smoothly for the entire class. For example, Mrs. Shuffield spend her breaks researching videos to enhance her writing and science
lessons. This week, she presented a rap video on photosynthesis to help students memorize facts about it. The children really enjoyed it and I could
hear them singing it as they left the classroom.
Teachers act as role models to their students in hopes of inspiring them to greatness. As a future educator, I may be the only person in my students'
lives who teaches them the importance of hard work and good character. This is why it's essential for me to build a positive rapport with every child.
I want to teach them to be caring and compassionate members of society. By being a moral teacher, I will positively impact the moral development of
my students. My goal is to help each student learn to be a better version of themselves by the time they leave my classroom.
I believe successful teachers develop a strong partnership with students' parents. Having clear communication with parents can play a significant role in
a child's education. It is also the best way to avoid misunderstandings from the beginning of

Standard 1: Development, learning, and motivation–
A teacher has his or her own style or way of motivating their students. Motivation plays an important part in a student's success of learning and
development. There are times when teachers spend more time with their students than most parents do, thus, a teacher is fundamental in shaping their
students success. If parents or teachers are poor leaders our children are the ones who are at a disadvantage. When they shine as leaders our children
blossom and the world is wide open to them. As a future teacher it is of utmost importance that I make sure to find the best style of teaching for the

Not every child learns the same way, nor are they interested in the same things. In my fieldwork I have noticed that it is becoming more difficult to
keep the attention of twenty to twenty–five children under the age of ten. Most of the students in the class were not really that interested in
researching or reading. When it came time to learn a new activity they would sigh and state that they did not want to do any of the work. However, if
a conversation was sparked about a new video game they were all excited to converse about it. A good teacher must learn to incorporate everyone's
beliefs into the daily curriculum. All students must be aware of the differences in the world and around them. Teachers have a lot of responsibility and
need to make sure that they make learning a positive experience for all. By being sensitive to the needs of everyone and presenting different ways of
doing things, it can be possible for everyone to have an equal opportunity to do their best.
Standard 3: Instruction– Differentiated instruction is very effective in the classroom. Teachers should be well aware of how greatly students may vary
in readiness, interest, and modes of learning. Teachers need to work to adjust the classroom to the needs of subgroups of students. Cooperative learning
or student– centered instruction is not a new concept. Like direct instruction it has been used as

Student–centered teaching are encouraged in which students participate in discovery learning and assessment is often based on group as well as
individual project portfolios.
With the impact of technology in the classrooms and the drastic change in the role of teachers, the learning environments also need major reform.
According to the recommendation of the National Educational Technology Standard provided by the International Society for Technology in Education
(ISTE), the student–centered teaching environments should be as followed:
Moving from Traditional to Student–centered Learning Environments
Traditional Classroom Student–Centered Classroom
Teacher–centered instruction Student–centered instruction
Single sense stimulation Multisensory stimulation
Single path Multipath progression
Single media Multimedia
Isolated work Collaborative work
Information delivered Information exchange
Passive learning Active/exploratory/inquiry–based learning
Factual, knowledge–based Critical thinking, informed decision–making
Reactive response Proactive/planned action
However, ISTE's recommendation of this model learning environment of the new classroom would not materialize without teachers' understanding and
appreciation of what technology can do to enhance their teaching; thus, promoting student learning.

Teacher Evaluation Essay

  • 1. Teacher Evaluation Essay In 2009, the Race to the Top education initiative used federal grants to incentivize states to enact rigorous teaching reforms in K–12 education. The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) of 2015 built off the progress of this reform by urging states to explicitly define and improve teacher quality assessments. Today, states are tasked with identifying the goals and components of an effective, evidenced–based teacher assessment system. Attracting high–quality novice teachers, retaining and rewarding effective veteran teachers, and improving developing teachers constitute the three main goals of a rigorous an effective teacher evaluation system. BACKGROUND_______________________________________________________________ A principal rating...show more content... However, standards–based observations create a rigorous, objective, and measurable rubric for educators to evaluate the quality of teacher performance: unsatisfactory, basic, proficient, and distinguished. These clear observation scales limit subjective bias given that it is clearly defined assessment rubric. However, accountability measures linked to a "limited sample of instruction can potentially effect reliability" and increase educational budget costs for administrative evaluation To that end, a teacher's instructional performance does not correlate with student achievement nor does it measure other qualities, such as "soft–skills". The value–added test provides an objective measure of assessment, emphasizing growth over proficiency. A teacher assessment system which uses value–added measurements captures a holistic evaluation of a teacher's performance. Meanwhile, a proficiency–based test demonstrates a student's ability to meet a benchmark on one test–an isolated measure. Value–added measures recognize the need for growth for all students, regardless of knowledge or skill. However, "a system based only on value–added measures would not be helpful for identifying the most effective teachers in a district." It is difficult to institute a common benchmark for value–added performance, given that student achievement across a district varies and scores are highly unpredictable from year to year. • 2. My Career as a Teacher Essay As I begin my rewarding career as I teacher, I sit and reflect on what my goals and priorities are in the classroom. I am excited to be engaged in a future career where I can implement my own beliefs and mold the future into something extremely positive. I believe the most important aspects that I want to bring to my students are threefold: I want to educate, motivate, and inspire. In order to have a productive learning environment where I will be able to educate my students, many different factors must take place. First and foremost, it is important to me that I master exceptional classroom management skills. Effective and efficient learning takes place when expectations in the classroom are consistent and clear. Also, discipline in...show more content... These learning styles include; auditory, visual, and kinesthetic. By mastering and using as many learning styles as I can, I will make sure each student is able to get the most out of their learning experience. I understand that every child learns differently and understanding how to use different approaches in each lesson plan will benefit every student. Not only is it important to use different learning styles but I will also use different teaching styles during the curriculum. The different methods I would like to use to teach my lessons include but are not limited to; scientific investigation which uses the scientific method. The scientific method includes first investigating the problem, coming up with a logical hypothesis, performing the experiment, reading the results, and finally completing an analysis of the results. The next method I would explore is decision making which is the thought process of selecting a logical choice from the available options. Next is problem solving. When I teach the students to problem solve accurately they be able to overcome obstacles and find a solution that best resolves the issue. Next, I will help my students think critically which includes identification and evaluation to problem solving. Finally, I will use the method of cooperative learning which is an approach to organizing classroom activities into academic and social learning experience. I believe that every one of these method can be valued Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. During my time on the PGDE Course both in University based learning, and more evidently during my Professional Practise placements, I have come to realise the significance of reflection within the teaching profession. Not only does reflecting on best practise benefit the children's learning but also increases the teacher's confidence and ability in making decisions and delivering lessons. 'Reflective teaching is a great deal to do with facing such features of ourselves in a constructive and objective manner which incorporates a continuous capacity to change and develop' (Moon, 2004). Since embarking on the course I now question my own actions and assess the best alternatives to develop my practise by taking constructive criticism from...show more content... 'Reflective teachers need to be able to relate their findings to those of others and to consider results in the context of the current debates about educational issues' (Pollard, 2008). Having a range of theorist's viewpoints, tried and tested ways of teaching, and working with more experienced professionals has furthered my knowledge and understanding. I do not believe teachers are required to know everything there is to know about all subjects but will have more expertise in some subjects than others. The subjects and topics which they have limited experience in will require a professional commitment in order to research. This research ultimately builds teacher's knowledge and understanding to plan more interesting and effective lessons. Curriculum for Excellence is allowing teachers more flexibility to organise and deliver the experiences and outcomes in a more effective way for learners. In delivering the various curricular areas I have become more confident in subjects which I felt less confident in at the start of the course. I have found that through additional reading I am better equipped to question and suggest methods tried by others in professional disscussions. I found that attending In–service day training and Continued Professional Development (CPD) sessions has increased my knowledge and understanding allowing me to develop lessons which are more rewarding for the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. My Teachers Marked Me Absent One day at school, two of my teachers marked me absent when I was not. The way I learned about it was because my Nana got a phone call from the office saying I was absent. She felt that the problem needed to be solved as quickly as possible. When she told me I was shocked! She then asked me where I had been so she could understand why they marked me absent. I told her I was in class and that I had gone to the bathroom so that is how they could have marked me absent. Then a little bit later my mom came home, she had asked me where I had been and I told her the same thing. Next my mom called the school, they were of no help. The principal tried to talk to me the next day but he was unable to because I was out sick. The day after that he came Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Elementary School Teaching Essay Elementary School Teaching Elementary School Teacher Elementary school teachers teach pupils at levels kindergarten through sixth grade or, in some cases, through eighth grade a wide range of academic, social, emotional, and motor skills. They plan and present programs of instruction using methods and materials to meet the needs of the students. In order for all this to happen though, Elementary School Teachers must have a passion for educating as well as love children. Education requires dedication, organization, and thought out lesson plans on a daily basis. To ensure that the students get top–notch education, teachers attend staff meetings, serve on committees, and attend workshops or in–service training activities....show more content... Although many teachers usually work alone in a class with a group of students, an increasing number of schools are now providing teacher aides who are supervised by the teacher, assist with clerical tasks, lunch and playground activities. About one public Elementary School Teacher in six is a member of a teaching team in which two or more teachers work closely teacher. An example of is would be when I was in fifth grade. My teacher, who graded, inspired, and taught me was Mr. Dekire. But Mrs. Biro team taught with Mr. Dekire and it would be like Mrs. Biro would do lectures and Mr. Dekire would do group work. This cuts down on the amount of work one person must have accomplished for the student. As a future teacher, I would hope to have an aide. Therefore, I would have more time for lesson planning and organizing the class. Not to mention, I would have more time socially to relax. Public Elementary Teachers in Michigan spend an average of 36 hours per week in the classroom and an additional 9 or so hours grading papers, attending meetings, keeping records, making reports, and supervising after–school activities. With an aide, I feel those 9 hours would cut down dramatically for the teacher. The nature of work for Elementary School Teachers is that they play a vital role in the development of children. What children learn and experience during their early years can shape their views of humanity, and affect future success or failure in school, work, and their Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Should Teachers Be Graded Too Essay It has come to my attention that teachers need some work on the way they teach, just how students need to work on their struggles. In order to find out where the teachers need some work we will need to grade to them. We can do this by having students answer a series of questions, like a survey, questions like do you feel comfortable around teacher, does your classroom feel like a family ect. . So I think teachers should be graded too. To begin, one reason I think teachers should be graded too is because it will improve their teaching skills. Eric S. Taylor and John H. Tyler state " We find that teachers are more effective at raising student achievement during the school year when they are being evaluated than they were previously, and even...show more content... Mrs. Campbell states " I was not scoring where I wanted to with questions like " I feel comfortable with asking my teacher for help", or "My teacher really cares about me" I was below average, I don't want to be below average". This shows how it can change the connection between students and teachers , like Ms. Campbell stated she was below average and didn't want to be, that gives her a chance to change. Although, teachers might get their feelings hurt when they get a bad grade. However, they could benefit from it as well because it can help them see where they need to improve in their teaching. According to Eric S. Taylor and John H. Tyler schools who have completed the evaluation are seeing results, "A student instructed by a teacher after that teacher has been through the Cincinnati evaluation will score about 11 percent of a standard deviation higher in math than a similar student taught by the same teacher before the teacher was evaluated". For instance if more schools around the world were to complete these evaluations we would see rapid improvement everywhere. Finally, I believe that we should grade/evaluate teachers too. If we do start grading teachers around the the world some changes we would see are improvement it the teachers skills, when a teacher can not help a struggling student, and the connection between teachers and students. This is a very important topic Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Becoming a teacher can be an exciting and challenging experience for anyone. It can be quite difficult to put four years of knowledge into their teaching and into a classroom environment. And while it may seem challenging at first it does become easier over time. A teacher is not only someone who teaches, but they are a symbol of learning. A teacher is a person who plays the most important role in the development of any student. The future of those students depends on the qualities and the dedication of that teacher. It is the teacher who creates an interest in students to develop and to progress. It is the teacher who helps the students achieve whatever aims they set for themselves. Teachers have a lot to do with motivating...show more content... The curriculum then becomes more relevant, therefore the motivation for the students to accomplish the tasks increases. The subject matter not only has to be relevant but it also has to be stimulating to the students' curiosity. If a student is bored with the content, they are not going to want to learn it. This could be things such as stickers or stamps on their homework and tests. Or it could be receiving verbal or written praise. It could be just the thing that motivates certain students. But not all students need to be extrinsically motivated. Teachers need to find out which type of motivation works best for which student to help them succeed. Classroom teaching is more likely to be effective when it is informed by an understanding of how students learn. Constructivism is the current approach to learning in Australian schools today. Constructivism is how each student goes about constructing his or her own knowledge. This type of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. My Teaching Experience Essay When I first come to Saint Cloud High School, I was uncertain of how I would fit into the world of education as a teacher, in fact, this was my first teaching practice. After completing a few observations, I changed my view and recognized my teaching abilities. I was able to learn many different things that will be helpful to me when I become a certified teacher someday. Although I could face many possible challenges in the classroom, I have many of the strengths it takes to be a good teacher. There were many times during this field training that gave me a broad idea of how the ordinary life of a teacher would go. Similarly, I got a profound sense of how the classroom environment is for most instructors. In general, I believe this was a pleasant experience for me, and I learned a lot in such a brief period. The educational unit I executed has an element of my instruction beliefs that students should connect and relate theme content to real life situations inside and outside the teaching space. Therefore, during my teaching experience, I feel compromise and responsible for meeting my students' needs and that is why I included many visuals aids and plenty of flexible activities. Hence, this unit involved a mixture of student and teacher–centered strategies such as direct instruction, drill and practice of the unit vocabulary, lectures, dialogues, question and answer sessions, discussions with exchanges of opinions and perspectives, discovery learning events and presentations Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. What Do Teachers Expect From Their Students? What do teacher expect from their students? Possibly to devote at least 3 hours studying out of classroom meeting time. Could it be to earn all A's? Could their expectation be irrational? To be clear on what teacher expectations are, teacher expectations are prophecies to principles about current levels of capability and performance, to views about students ' normative behavior (fundamentally, cooperativeness, rule–following, etc.). From experience, as an early childhood educator who is teaching 2.5 – 3.5–year–old children, I expect them to follow directions, and to be mindful of safety and classroom rules at all times. These expectations of mine come from not only the knowledge of the developmental stages of a child, but along with how I think a 2.5– 3.5 child should behave. Because of creating these expectations for my young toddler students, a self–fulfilling prophecy is formed. A self– fulfilling prophecy is a prediction that directly or indirectly causes itself to become true, by the very terms of the prophecy itself, due to positive feedback between belief and behavior. These self– fulfilling prophecies created by teachers can have a tremendous impact on student lives. The accuracy of teacher expectations and how powerful teacher expectation effects students are strongly contrariwise associated: As accuracy increases, the likelihood for self–fulfilling prophecies declines; as accuracy decreases, the likelihood for self–fulfilling prophecies increases (Jussim & Harber, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Autobiography Of A Teacher As children, we absorb information and learn from experiences that mold us into who we are. Many individuals impact a child's life, but the most powerful and influential role lies in a devoted teacher, a teacher provides growth to students as a gardener would to a garden of flowers. Each child can bloom into a thriving flower so long as you water their garden with optimism, love, patience, and guidance. Throughout my educational experiences I was lucky enough to have educators who poured their knowledge and optimism into me, and now I would like to reciprocate that back to students who are in the position I was once in. Balancing life and school is hard enough for a student, but a powerful and caring teacher can steer you in the right direction. In this autobiography you will read about my educational background, experiences that influenced my decision to become a teacher, and what I believe the role of a teacher should be in a student's life. As a student I went to multiple schools, I went to three different elementary schools, two middle schools, and two high schools in Brownsville, and through it all I had great experiences. Brownsville is a humble community with low socioeconomic status, but rich in culture, history, and unity. In retrospect, the socioeconomic status was changing as I attended different schools, depending on the area of the school, of course. I was able to see peers of mine with different statuses than the person next to them, some more affluent than Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Essay On Why Teachers Should Be Armed T he first main idea, that has been argued much more then needed, is that teachers will be trained to not shoot kids that are acting up. The teachers would be attending a gun safety class. Many (as in people against this argument) say that the teachers wouldn't attend this class, but a recent survey, conducted by the NRA, shows us that 40 million teachers would like to be armed and would take the Gun Safety Test. The course, that which is mandatory, would likely e sponsored by the NRA. The course that the teachers would be attending, is a 40–60 hours a week course (in the summer time), and the course doesn't stop until the teacher can pass the exam. The exam is simply being able to hold a gun, reaction time, and being able to know when and when not to shoot. Just recently, 04/10/2017, a school shooting killed two teachers, and injured two students, both kids being injured severely. If those teachers in San Bernardio where armed, they could have saved their lives and those children's futures. Also in 2013 teacher aids, the principal, the school psychologist, teachers, and 20 children ranging from 6–7 were killed in Sandy Hook, making a death total of 26 people, plus one. That plus one should not be accounted for, that plus one was the...show more content... But as in every argument there are very few reason to not be armed, but as in this situation the why's weight out the why not's. The way teachers, right now, are acting when a shooter comes in, is cowardly. The students are more willing to risk their lives to save their friends, that is true courage. But the student is unarmed, literally bringing a fist to a gun fight, if the teacher was armed that could change the game of how the shooting could play out. Either the teacher wins fighting hard, or the teacher dies cowardly. Teachers should be armed for the sake of themselves, piers, and students. Would you rather die fighting hard, or die coward Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Essay about Teachers and Students Teachers and Students The education habits of students are rooted in them from the earliest days of their educational careers. The different influences on students, whether it be inside educational institutions, or outside is huge. The teacher of a classroom is the first and most pertinent influence in a student's educational career. Teachers provide students with the basic skills they would need to survive not only in the academic world, but also the world beyond. The relationship between teachers and their students is the key element in creating an educational atmosphere that is both pleasant and effective. The experience of a student at school, especially at a younger age, in most cases sets the main base of the skills of that...show more content... Unconsciously or not, they consistently reinforce and reward more 'feminine' behavior. Although it may be true that boys are more active than girls, but to say that they are treated differently is to be overly generalizing the situation. A teacher is supposed to be able to handle different types of children in the classroom, and cater to their activeness or passiveness in a class. For example, a teacher would try to involve a quiet and shy student as often as possible. The same goes for an active child; the teacher should be able to find activities for that child which would not only educate them, but also keep them busy. Thomas provides various arguments as to how boys and girls are different; therefore they are treated differently in a classroom. It cannot be argued that boys and girls are different, especially at such a young age, but to say that teachers specifically do treat boys in a rougher manner would be going too far. Thomas introduces the idea that society instills ideas of prejudice towards women in young boys, so that when they do go into a classroom governed by a female teacher, they are predisposed to be defiant and unruly. In my opinion, it is unfair to judge teachers based on the performance of their students on various tests. Thomas's article introduces the idea that as the number of female teachers is increasing, the performance of boys in school is declining. One much question whether it is in fact the teachers who cause this Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Teachers can be the people to inspire the next person to change the world. It is their job to bring out a different side of students and help them become successful adults. A teacher can change the outlook of a student and change the eventual outcome of the country. This career is important to society because the country is dependent on the next generation, and without correct education the world could become very corrupt. All states require teachers to have a bachelor's degree("Secondary School Teacher" 491). Teachers can work in different types of environments which include: hazards, travel, and location. Teachers can work in classrooms, science labs, computer labs, or machine shops. These environments usually lack necessities for educating students. Some schools fund field trips once or twice a year and the teacher gets to go along to supervise the students on this trip("High School Teacher"). One hazards of this job is the stress the teacher must endure to complete their job("High School Teachers"). A teacher must also spend a lot of their own time completing schooling activities to make a class as prepared as possible. Teachers may have to deal with unruly students depending on the location of the job, and this could cause harm to the teacher physically and mentally("High School Teacher"). The job of a teacher is very vital to the control of the country in future years. The job is growing and will add six percent by 2024. There are expected to be 55,000 more teaching jobs opening up by 2024("High School Teachers"). Overall, the field of education will be growing in the coming years. The job of teaching can require a huge amount of work and time to be done successfully. Teachers usually work school hours which can vary for different schools("High School Teachers"). • 14. My Most Memorable Teacher Many of us who have had the luxury of getting an education have had many memorable teachers during our time in school. Some of them are memorable for being terrible teachers but others are remembered as being very impactful to our maturing minds as we grew up. One of my most memorable teachers in my middle school years of seventh and eighth grade are of old and grumpy Ms. Smith. Even though she was not the greatest or most fun, she taught me and many others in my class valuable things and the power of being literate in America. Ms. Smith was a relatively old lady of African American descent. There were a few things that I noticed about her as soon as I met her. She had a very pungent and elder–like smell exuding from her. Her smell was so strong that eventually the room would gain this odor and no amount of Febreze wall plugins would relieve our noses. She also had a weird pinky finger on her right hand that always seemed to be bending in a different direction every day. She dressed in a very old–fashioned way with flat bottomed shoes and skirts which were very minimal in design and color which may have been a testament to her old age. On the first day of having her as a teacher in the seventh grade, nobody in my class knew what to expect in all actuality. Her classroom was rather small and office sized, not really fit to be a classroom with sufficient workspace. All of the desks would squeak when someone took a seat no matter the size of the person. • 15. Career Research Paper While growing up and observing my teachers at school, I have learned that it isn't always an easy job. Teachers do everything they can to teach their students' academic, social and other formative skills. Plenty of my teachers have to deal with complications, most of them being minor, but it isn't always an easy job helping children, teens and young adults. As a student myself, I know they can be stubborn, unwilling to learn, aggressive, and irresponsible. Sometimes, they simply don't care. However, that is a teacher's purpose: to help and shape their students to become better learners, so that they have a clearer understanding regarding a variety of subject matters. Someday, I actually want to become an elementary art teacher, which is ...show more content... An elementary educator also needs to have a wide personality. By "wide" I mean they should be prepared to multitask, learn not to get distracted easily and really know how to connect with children. Teaching a child is not easy, so they need to demonstrate self–control, concern, independency, tolerance, and flexibility. A good teacher is known as a teacher who is willing to help others and learn how to cooperate. Before getting a teaching degree, the individual will need to take regular high school classes, such as math, science, English, and psychology, have two years of a foreign language and should consider participating in a teacher's aide program. Then one must continue onto a four year college to get a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. The placement for an elementary teacher is quite high and it shouldn't be that difficult to find a job. Also, to increase the chances of getting a job and to increase your salary, a person should also get a Master's Degree. It is not required but it looks better and often helps the employability of a future education. All the time people ask, "Oh, why do you want to be a teacher, they don't make that much money?" However, teachers make decent pay. On average, a teacher will make $53,000 per year. In the state of Wisconsin and Minnesota, teachers make the average salary and have the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. My Most Memorable Teachers Essay My Most Memorable Teachers For some reason or another certain students are drawn to particular teachers while other students are more fond of others. In my life I have studied under three memorable teachers. Teachers with which I was able to connect, to laugh, to share my misgivings. While I may have been close with each of these teachers, it is very clear, in retrospect, that each was very unique, and represented an entirely different class of teacher. The teacher that stands out most in my head is my eleventh grade English teacher. She had a liberal arts background, and enjoyed the classic American writers; Hemingway, Steinbeck, what have you. She was in the class of teachers who was more impressed by actions and honesty...show more content... Her class of teachers take their jobs very seriously, and do not tolerate students who skip or disrupt their classes. These teachers are fun, because once you get them off on some irrelevant tangent, they will keep themselves going on it for entire class segments, trying to get out years of thought and consideration in just a short period of time. This is how I got to know my psychology teacher, because I was the one who kept her talking, so that the class could avoid taking the quiz that none of us had studied for. Teachers like her have the innate gift to educate and entertain, with their comprehensive lessons and subtle quirks. Finally, I come to my high school horticulture teacher, whom I studied under for so many years that by the time I was a senior, we talked to each other on a first name basis. He belonged to a small class of teachers who are personally important to every young adult. This class of teacher is the buddy, the friend. The teacher with whom you can talk about anything, be it the trouble you have been having with your girlfriend, the high–potency marijuana that you smoked over the weekend, or just the dirty jokes you heard the day before. These are the teachers with whom you simply share interests, and thus, get along really well. Having a teacher like this is almost like having a counselor, someone older and wiser than yourself Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. The Roles Of Teachers ' Teachers The roles of teachers I believe teachers play multiple roles that extend beyond the classroom. They take classes continuously, attend professional development sessions, and research new approaches to learning on their own time. These are done with the purpose of expanding their knowledge in teaching and to ensure that the school day runs smoothly for the entire class. For example, Mrs. Shuffield spend her breaks researching videos to enhance her writing and science lessons. This week, she presented a rap video on photosynthesis to help students memorize facts about it. The children really enjoyed it and I could hear them singing it as they left the classroom. Teachers act as role models to their students in hopes of inspiring them to greatness. As a future educator, I may be the only person in my students' lives who teaches them the importance of hard work and good character. This is why it's essential for me to build a positive rapport with every child. I want to teach them to be caring and compassionate members of society. By being a moral teacher, I will positively impact the moral development of my students. My goal is to help each student learn to be a better version of themselves by the time they leave my classroom. I believe successful teachers develop a strong partnership with students' parents. Having clear communication with parents can play a significant role in a child's education. It is also the best way to avoid misunderstandings from the beginning of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Reflective Essay on a Good Teacher... Reflective Essay: A Good Teacher... Standard 1: Development, learning, and motivation– A teacher has his or her own style or way of motivating their students. Motivation plays an important part in a student's success of learning and development. There are times when teachers spend more time with their students than most parents do, thus, a teacher is fundamental in shaping their students success. If parents or teachers are poor leaders our children are the ones who are at a disadvantage. When they shine as leaders our children blossom and the world is wide open to them. As a future teacher it is of utmost importance that I make sure to find the best style of teaching for the students I will be teaching in order for them to receive the...show more content... Not every child learns the same way, nor are they interested in the same things. In my fieldwork I have noticed that it is becoming more difficult to keep the attention of twenty to twenty–five children under the age of ten. Most of the students in the class were not really that interested in researching or reading. When it came time to learn a new activity they would sigh and state that they did not want to do any of the work. However, if a conversation was sparked about a new video game they were all excited to converse about it. A good teacher must learn to incorporate everyone's beliefs into the daily curriculum. All students must be aware of the differences in the world and around them. Teachers have a lot of responsibility and need to make sure that they make learning a positive experience for all. By being sensitive to the needs of everyone and presenting different ways of doing things, it can be possible for everyone to have an equal opportunity to do their best. Standard 3: Instruction– Differentiated instruction is very effective in the classroom. Teachers should be well aware of how greatly students may vary in readiness, interest, and modes of learning. Teachers need to work to adjust the classroom to the needs of subgroups of students. Cooperative learning or student– centered instruction is not a new concept. Like direct instruction it has been used as Get more content on HelpWriting.net
