Our next segment helps you build a strong business vocabulary.
Building a strong vocabulary is an effective way to pursue and obtain the
success you seek in life.
Join me every week on the podcast to strengthen your Business English
lexicon.
Our Business English Word of the Day is – current account deficit.
If you have studied economics or international trade, you may already be
aware of this term.
Current account deficit is a noun that means: measurement of a
country’s trade in which the value of goods and services it imports
exceeds the value of goods and services it exports.
In other words, the current account deficit is the trade deficit as
newspapers reports business and economic news.
Business English Ace Radio – Class Notes 4 ©2016 Wham Media
Example: The current account deficit of developing countries
continues to be a controversial topic at the conference.
Current account deficit is a noun that means: measurement of a
country’s trade in which the value of goods and services it imports
exceeds the value of goods and services it exports.
Remember every fifth word, you have a quiz. So make sure you study your
vocabulary words each week.

SEGMENT V
Business English Ace Twisted English
Twisted English is when you and I examine an actual business news
headline in English.
But these news headlines have a twist.
You do ready financial news in English, right?
The Twisted English series helps you read financial news.
Headline writers often use expressions in the title of their articles – what I
call Twisted English.
Today’s headline in our Twisted English series is: Rekindling Interest in
Coal
Have you heard of the expression “rekindle interest”?
Business English Ace Academy PROMO
Business English Ace Radio – Class Notes 6 ©2016 Wham Media
Rekindle is a verb that means to “relight a fire” or simply “to revive.”
Rekindle is used in an article about coal because coal is heated or fired up
to produce energy.
The headline could be translated so to speak to – Revived Interest in
Coal.
Make sure that you visit the notes for this episode. Access the Class Notes
at www.businessenglishace.com/bear37. You can download the Class
Notes.
And that’s your Twisted English lesson of the week – rekindled interest.
Stay tuned for more Twisted Business English right here every week on
Business English Ace Radio.
SEGMENT VII – Erroneous English Question Answer
Ok, it´s time to answer our Erroneous English Question.
Our Erroneous English question this week asks – Which is correct
English – people or persons?
A) Several people were arrested for crimes in the neighborhood.
or
B) Several persons were arrested for crimes in the neighborhood.
This is an easier Erroneous English Question of the Week I think.
Persons does not exist in good English.
Thus, the only possible answer is A – using “people.”
If you chose A, congratulations!
Several people were arrested for crimes in the neighborhood.

Rekindling Interest in Coal
The “Twist”:
1. Rekindle – coal is lit and burned to produce energy
2. However, the “revive” part of the definition of rekindle is
most relevant. So, the headline could be rewritten:
Reviving Interest in Coal.
