5. The Business Council of Mongolia is focused on making
positive contributions to the legal and operating
environment for the business sector in Mongolia. We are
driven by a recognition that an enabled and motivated
business sector will make the largest contribution to
the growth of the Mongolian economy and enable the
government to provide an improving level of services to
all in Mongolia.
For ten years we have grown our membership, and
at the same time grown the services that we offer to
our members. Continually improving in a value adding
manner is critical to BCM’s success and the success of
our members.
More than 60% of BCM’s membership are organizations
that are majority Mongolian owned. At the same time
we are the only business chamber in Mongolia with a
highly diverse international membership. This covers
global companies to embassies, IFI’s, NGO’s and
international organizations. We are a non-exclusive
group of common interests.
For ten years we have built BCM from humble origins.
During that time we have seen the economy go through
peaks and troughs, and we have witnessed key points
where wrong paths have been taken on critical policy
matters. We have continued to grow during turbulent
times.
BCM has not been afraid to raise the difficult issues
with those in power - and through economic times
that have been good and poor. This is our raison d’etre.
We formulate positions on what is good for business
(existing and potential), and the enablers of a fully
functional economy - and we then advocate to influence
outcomes in a positive way.
BCM wants to be the best it can be for its membership
to add value in ways the other chambers cannot.
However we also realize the importance of collaboration,
especially when it comes to matters of national policy
and advocacy. We are now working closely with
other chambers on key matters, and this improves
our collective ability to get better outcomes on critical
matters of strategy, law and administration.
Our working groups and secretariat are a critical
component of keeping BCM focused, engaged,
informed and networked. Improving the support and
working conditions for these groups is critical to them
being able to focus on the key issues.
We realize that business is serious, and that making
profit is essential to long term prosperity. We also know
that business has a critical role in shaping society. The
opportunity for our members to network with all of
the organizations that contribute to our rich national
tapestry is important to build understanding and
tolerance.
We hope you enjoy reading this 10th anniversary Special
Edition brochure and look forward to your contributions
to making BCM the best it can be for its members.

What We Do:
INS seeks to fill Mongolia’s gap in public policy debate on strategic
development and economic management based on rigorous and
unbiased research and by working with leading edge Mongolian
and international thinkers.
Importantly, all business associations in Mongolia endorse the
need to collaborate and effectively challenge strategic thinking on
the business environment and Mongolia’s economy.
The INS article series will appear twice monthly, with pieces written
by international and Mongolian experts. These articles will highlight
a problem statement, the author’s response and an INS opinion.
Founding board members of INS are senior business and academic
leaders with strong relationships both inside Mongolia and abroad.
Specifically, the institute aims to
• Provide regular commentary via
an article series on critical issues
facing Mongolia
• Provide input into long term
strategic development planning
• Stimulate higher levels of public
debate on critical and current
policy matters

A volunteer speaking session delivered by BCM members at top
public and private Universities of Mongolia.
Due to its high impact factor, speaking sessions at certain
universities have been recognized as part of student’s credit,
making “BCM in the University Classroom“ series, the most
sought out speaking session.
Initiated in 2012 by the Education Working Group at BCM, this
volunteer project was launched with intent of transferring insight
and experience of prominent practitioners and experts directly
to the University classroom to increase the employability of the
graduates.
At the onset of the academic year, participating Universities
send BCM management a list of interested topics and times,
Universities request specific speaker with the topic. BCM then
seeks suitable speaker, and coordinates with the volunteering
speaker.
Under the “BCM in the University Classroom” series, speeches
and lectures are organized on a cohort basis.
Beginning of September through mid-May of the academic year
Due to the weight of the content delivered by our speakers, BCM
requests the attendance of students in their senior year. Mid-
career students are frequent attendees.
