based energy firms. Active in the Dallas-Fort Worth community,
Bruce Selkirk played a key role in raising funds to support a breast
cancer clinical trial at the Baylor University Medical Center.
Located in Dallas, Baylor University Medical Center (BUMC) is a
teaching hospital that provides comprehensive medical and surgical
care through more than 20 specialty facilities, including the Charles
A. Sammons Cancer Center. In July of 2019, the nonprofit health
care network to which the hospital belongs, Baylor & Scott White
Health (BSW), announced that BUMC has been recognized in the
2019-20 edition of US News & World Report’s Best Hospitals
rankings.

• US News compiles the rankings using a variety of criteria aimed at
determining the country’s leading medical centers. BUMC earned
distinction as the No. 2 hospital in Dallas-Fort Worth and the No. 4 hospital
in all of Texas. BUMC also garnered recognition as a “high-performing”
medical center in several categories, including lung- and colon-cancer
surgery. A prestigious honor, the “high-performing” designation is awarded
to hospitals that rank among the top 10 percent in the country in a
specialty or common treatment area.
Four of BSW’s other medical centers garnered the “high-performing”
designation in areas of specialty care, while an additional 16 of the
network’s hospitals secured the honor in areas of common care. In
receiving these accolades, BSW Health earned status as Texas’ most-
decorated nonprofit health care system for the second consecutive year.
