Dr. Sam Sandowski for Service to Community
Oceanside, NY — In recognition of his dedication and service to improving the health of
communities in Nassau County, the UJA - Federation of New York’s division of South Shore
Healthcare Professionals honored Samuel Sandowski, MD, at its annual dinner reception held
recently at the Sephardic Temple in Cedarhurst, NY.

people in Israel and 60 other countries around the world. The funds raised by the UJA -
Federation sustain the activities of more than 100 health, human-service, educational and
community agencies.
“This is a well-deserved honor,” said Adhi Sharma, MD, chief medical officer at South
Nassau Communities Hospital. “Dr. Sandowski’s selflessness and good works in the community
are equal to the excellence he has achieved as a clinician and medical education leader.”
Director of medical education at South Nassau, Dr. Sandowski is a recognized leader in
faculty development and academic medicine. He has published numerous articles and chapters,
and co-edited medical textbooks, including "Primary Care.” Dr. Sandowski graduated Cum Laude
from the Technion Faculty of Medicine in Israel. He completed his residency in Family Practice at
South Nassau, and subsequently completed a faculty development fellowship at the SUNY Health
Science Center at Brooklyn, where he was appointed the Medical Director of the Family Practice
Center. He also serves on the executive committee of the Downstate Family Medical Education
Consortium, as well as the education committee of the New York State Academy of Family
Physicians.
Dr. Sandowski has oversight of all teaching activities at South Nassau, including those of
physician assistant students, medical students, and residents. He also chairs South Nassau’s
committee on continuing medical education for its medical staff and attending physicians.
Additionally, he is responsible for overall communication with medical school leadership and

2. other teaching institutions, serving as a liaison with the medical community; particularly with
facilities and agencies providing instruction for students and residents.
