Recommendation in support of Bruce Cannady
Bruce tooktwo courses from me at the Belk College: Global Marketing Management (Spring
2013) and Marketing Strategy (Spring 2015). He quickly distinguished himself as a serious, committed
student, who was clearly there to learn and make the most of his educational opportunities.
The Global Marketing course is at a senior level, and we move rapidly through often-
challenging material. Students are required to employ a range of skills spanning writing, researching,
composing complex analyses, composing reports using particularly succinctformats, prepared
speaking and extemporaneous speaking, and of course preparing forcomprehensive examinations.
Like most students, Bruce initially found some skills easier than others. Tohis credit, he threw himself
into activities that did not come easiest to him, perhaps risking an initial poor performance in favorof
improving what he may have regarded as his weakerspots. The result is an enterprising, thoughtful,
well-rounded student, who gained a meaningful appreciation of Global Marketing, and who worked
diligently for his well-deserved final “A”.
Marketing Strategy is the capstone marketing course at the Belk College. Itis very rigorous.
The entire course comprises a real-life consulting project, where student teams compete against each
other via a marketing strategy consulting projectfor Bojangles’. Bruce's team experienced challenges
greater than most, but they prevailed and made a strong finish. There is no doubt that Bruce‘s energy,
determination, and extraordinary writing skills were key to his team’s ultimate success.
It is unusual to encounter gifted writers in business courses, so Bruce’s written assignments
were a breath of fresh air. His workwas always a pleasure to read. I appreciated his attention to detail
and carefulresearch. He patently enjoyed the process of crafting his responses as much as some
students enjoyed embracing new concepts. He is unquestionably one of the deftest and most elegant
writers I have ever encountered in class. I hope he willparlay this talent in his professional endeavors.
I have no hesitation offering my strong recommendation of Bruce Cannady as a well-qualified,
strong and competent candidate fora job in marketing or in copy-writingor editing. Bruce is certain to
apply his energy, integrity and enthusiasm to any undertaking.
