Social/Community
Benefits:
- This being a community team sport, I
have met many different people coming
from all over, which promotes ethnic and
cultural harmony
- In competition playing other towns
creates community pride by engaging
our communities to come out to support
- After each game the home team hosts
the opposing team to some drinks and
food which builds strong communities

4. Achieving ISI
My ISI Words
Respectful
Open Minded
Easy Going
Funny
Perseverance
Playing and coaching rugby has taught me a
lot about practicing how to be my best self.
Also by teaching youth about how to be their
best selves, ultimately makes me feel like I'm
reaching my ISI by doing so. In rugby respect
is taught at the very beginning as the main
tool to keep the game running. You must
respect everyone on the pitch pre- game,
during the game, and post game, if that is just
shaking hands at the end of the game or
preventing yourself from blowing up after
getting cranked or illegally hit, you must
always show respect. Perseverance is also
heavily taught as it is an 80-minute game with
little breaks and few subs most of the time.
Athletes are taught to push that extra mile
and break through their barriers while out of
gas.
Coaching youth has taught me a lot about
being open minded and easy going. If any
other coach or athlete comes to me about a
new drill or training exercise, I always
listen and see how it could benefit us as a
team. All though I am easy going, I know
when its time to focus and work to achieve
our team and person desired goals.

a lot with her stress management
- She says that being outside with the
fresh air and nature gives her a better

Community/Environment

especially for our nature

thing to build strong families
• The trails around us are very environmental/ecologically
friendly due to environmental protection and

health
(Lunn, 2020)
7. Achieving ISI
ISI Words:
Out Going
Caring
Listener
Adventurous
Driven
Daira has coaching gymnastics and cheerleading for
7 years and was also a daycare teacher for 2 years
before becoming a Douglas student. She states that
“Being a coach for so long has taught me so much
about how to be driven, no matter the circumstance
I always have learned to always tell myself to keep
pushing for our desired goal” (D. Succurro, Personal
communication, October 1st, 2020). Also from being
in a teaching/coaching role she has learnt to become
a great listener to her kids, showing the kids that
they can trust her and that she cares for them. This
also helps her to become the out going self she loves
to be. On her time off she loves to nature walk and
travel which she says helps her reach her
adventurous traits.
