Brandon West, Student Ambassador
History Department
Dear Brandon,
I am writing to express my own personal appreciation, as well as that of the entire
faculty, for the terrific work you are volunteering for the History department as a
Student Ambassador. As you are well aware, recruitment and marketing has
become an increasingly important component of what we do as academics. Faculty
are not trained in this area, so we find it a challenge, but we have happily discovered
that students are our best representatives anyway! Your contagious energy, honest
enthusiasm for what you are studying, and camaraderie as a group are not only
clearly very attractive to prospective majors and minors, but a shot in the arm for all
of us, the faculty.
At yesterday’s event for “undecided” freshmen and sophomores on campus, I
observed that our table, staffed by two faculty and no fewer than five student
ambassadors, was clearly the most attractive table in the room: we were drawing a
crowd, and the conversations between you ambassadors and circulating students
were lively and dynamic. Many of the students who dropped by told me they would
now seriously consider at least a History minor, if not a major outright.
I want you to know that the support you are bringing to our numerous campus open
house and outreach events is critical, and I could not appreciate it more. Thank-you
so much.
Sincerely,
Anita Shelton, Chair
