2. She Will Be Loved
- Maroon 5
O "She Will Be Loved" is the third single on the American
band Maroon 5's 2002 debut album, Songs About Jane. Released
in 2004, the single peaked at #5 in the United States, and by
December 2012 had sold more than 2,722,000 digital downloads. It
peaked at #4 in the United Kingdom. In Australia, it reached #1, a
position it held for 5 non-consecutive weeks.
O It became my favourite song for a while back in 2005 when I was 7,
this was because I was learning to play the drums and I needed to
practice to a steady flowing beat. I can remember drumming to this
song in my room for several hours, whilst going through a stage of
playing the drums. Unfortunately, after the drums episode was over
I never really listened to Maroon 5 again and nowadays I can’t even
listen to their music as they’ve changed genre in order to still
compete in the modern day era of music. I guess I don’t really listen
to them now as their songs are not how I remember them and I
don’t really think they have much true meaning behind them now as
they are more commercialised.
3. Build Me Up Buttercup
- The Foundations
O "Build Me Up Buttercup" is a song written by Mike d'Abo and Tony
Macaulay, and released by The Foundations in 1968 with Colin
Young singing lead vocals. Young had replaced Clem Curtis during
1968 and this was the first Foundations hit on which he sang. It hit
#1 on the Cash Box singles chart and #3 on the US Billboard Hot
100 in early 1969. It was also a #2 hit in the United Kingdom. It was
quickly certified Gold by the RIAA for sales of over a million US
copies.
O I first heard this song when I was 7 due to a Nintendo Wii game
called SingStar. The song soon become my quality pleasure as I
would always sing along to it regardless if it was me or someone
else standing up in the front room singing it in front of the rest of the
family. To this present day I still like the song as it reminds me of a
happy/memorable time during my childhood. Whenever I hear this
song it immediately brings me back to when I was 7 and I can
visualise myself singing it. It was my favourite song purely because
it was uplifting and got everybody involved, even those who didn’t
particularly like singer.
4. Don't Be So Hard on Yourself
– Jess Glynne
O "Don't Be So Hard on Yourself" is a song by English
recording artist Jess Glynne. It was released as the fourth
single from her debut album I Cry When I Laugh on 14
August 2015. It was written by Jess Glynne. On 14 August
2015 the song entered the UK Singles Chart at number 78
based on streams alone, reaching number one the
following week. The song became Glynne's fifth UK
number-one single.
O This became my favourite song for a period in August 2015,
I like the meaning behind the song as she is trying to
encourage people who don’t necessarily get recognised for
the good things they do, as a result of this her song could
relate to a wide audience who have all experienced this
kind of pain. I find that the song is uplifting and that it is
encouraging people to look on the bright side rather that to
feel disheartened.
