Analysing Progress from Preliminary Editing Task
1. Evaluation 7: Looking back at your
preliminary task (the continuity
editing task), what do you feel you
have learnt in the progression from
it to full product?
3. Analysis 1
• Negative 1:
• I only took into account about 5 different varied shots, I could have added
in a lot more and subsequently made my work a lot better.
• Negative 2:
• The fact that there was no stabilisation during the recording of my
preliminary task means that the camera shots are very shaky and not very
stable. A tripod in this situation would have been great to stabilise the
recording.
4.
5. Analysis 2
• Negative 3:
• This fade here was not needed. It was added to try and add an effect to
the film, but instead it hindered the quality of my task. It makes the movie
look very cheap and to just have cut to Cameron walking to the door
rather than a fade would have been a much better option.
• Negative 4:
• As you can see in these 2 shots, the lighting changes very quickly within 1
shot. This again hinders the quality of my film. No professional director
would let the light change that quickly. This again was a very stupid
mistake that could have easily been avoided.
6. In the end...
• After viewing my preliminary task again, I can see that I made
a whole bunch of very stupid mistakes that could have easily
been avoided if I took precautions. But, I kept the 180 degree
rule in check and that did not change throughout my task.
Also, shot reverse shot was a key point in my film which did
not change also, which worked well with the 180 degree rule
to keep my task looking at its best.
8. Analysis 1
• Positive 1:
• The fact I have now included lot more varied shots means that the
audience can now have a more wider range of shots to enjoy meaning a
better outcome for my film. This also means I can showcase my knowledge
of shots.
• Positive 2:
• Now that I have a tripod, the audience can now enjoy the film without
having to worry about the shaking. The fact that the tripod is also very
portable means that we can carry it around with us and use it for a lot of
shots. I have only purposely used camera shake when the killer is running
/ chasing.
10. Analysis 2
• Positive 3:
• Now that I had the chance to record somewhere other than a classroom,
the Mise en scene is fantastic. We see luscious, green trees flowing in the
wind and birds singing. These all add to the atmosphere of the film,
although it completely changes when we enter the dark, grotty and creepy
derelict house. I think that this has improved my film opening immensely
and is definitely a great choice in the long run.
11. In the end...
• After recording the final AS Film Opening, i think I have learnt
a lot of things from my original preliminary task. I have learnt
that camera shake and mise en scene are important factors
that can definitely effect the audiences final decision on the
quality of my film. The preliminary task gave me lots of
valuable knowledge on how to properly film, edit and create
my AS Film Opening.
