Task 1
Continuity
ā€¢ Continuity refers to the unbroken and consistent use of detail in films.
It is ensuring that all details match and line up from scene to scene
and that nothing moves out of place. Continuity is important for
ensuring that the objects in the film appear to stay where they are
and that everything fits in place without any noticeable or
unnecessary changes. Continuity errors can result in obvious on
screen mistakes that draw attention away from what the subject of
the fil is.
Lighting tests
ā€¢ Lighting tests are when people of a similar stature and skin tone stand
in place of actors in order to test what the lighting will look like before
filming on the scene starts. Lighting tests ensure that there are no
lighting errors when filming takes place and are also used to work out
what the bet look lighting for the scene would be, all without having
to wait the time of the actor in question.
Storyboarding/Narrative
ā€¢ Storyboarding is when a sequence of images are produced that
represent how each scene will be laid out, how the lighting of the
scene will be laid out and where the actors would be. Storyboarding is
beneficial as it allows creators and filmmakers to visually set out the
film and get an idea of what everything will look like before filming
and productions starts.
Shot testing
ā€¢ Shot testing refers to testing out shots that are wanted in the film
without actors but rather with place holders of a similar stature and
skin tone and normally not on set either, they would usually opt to
use simple place holders in order to see if the shot in question is
achievable and within reach. Shot testing is also used in order to
establish what settings would be best to use in a full scene.
Shot Composition
ā€¢ Shot composition is used to establish what exactly the final filmed
shot will look like. Shot composition also refers t the various elemtns
within the scene, such as lighting, make up and various other items
that would be seen on screen.

Exposure
Exposure can be defined as the amount of time that a cameras shutter is allowed to be open
in order to capture
The light and take the photo. A higher exposure such as 1/100, meaning the shutter is open
for 1 100th of a second,
lets less light in, where as a lower exposure such as 1/5, meaning that the shutter is open for 1
5th of a second, lets
More light in. This can be seen on the previous slide where a higher exposure resulted in a
darker photo of the car
and a lower exposure resulted in a much brighter photo of the car. A lower exposure can also
lead to blur if the camera
or subject moves while the shot is being taken.
Focal Length
18mm 50mm 105mm 155mm 300mm
Here we can see how focal length effects a shot. Using different focal lengths whilst moving the
camera around to keep the subject in the same position, we can see how the background and
foreground of the subject get blurrier as the focal length increases.

Task 4
Director
ā€¢ Directors need to be able to mediate the creative differences on set to make sure
what's being made is the best outcome.
ā€¢ The director works closely with the producer and scriptwriter. As the producer
needs to give notes on production and the screenwriter give notes on the script.
ā€¢ The film's director is responsible for visualising the script or screenplay, whilst
guiding the film crew and actors to fulfil the vision.
ā€¢ Some directors often write their own screenplays and direct them. This
is because they know what they are trying to visualize and therefore there is
no room for anything to be lost in translation from script to screen.
ā€¢ Christopher Nolan is a well-known director who now owns his own production
company. His movies are known for their large practical effects and often stories
that make you think.
ā€¢ I believe directors are possibly
Camera Operator
ā€¢ Camera operators need to know how to get the desired shot and
require a steady hand to do so. They also have to be knowledgeable
about different shooting styles and techniques and know how to use
and operate the camera.
ā€¢ Camera operators work on set and primarily work with directors and
assistants, who direct them on what shot to get, and
cinematographers who set everything up to get the shot.
ā€¢ The camera operators responsibility is to get the shot that director
wants.
ā€¢ Rodrigo Prieto was one of five camera operators on the set of The
Wolf of Wall Street. He was responsible for ensuring that they got the
right shots they needed for the film when in control of the camera.
ā€¢ I think camera operators play one of the most important roles on the
film set and it is a role that I take a liking towards.
1st Assistant Director/
2nd Assistant Director
ā€¢ Assistant directors are there to help the directors, they need to be able to
think fast and work fast. They cater to the creative needs of the director
who delegates to them to ensure everything runs smoothly.
ā€¢ Assistant directors work primarily with the director of the film.
ā€¢ The responsibility of assistant directors on set is to aid the director in
whatever way they need in order to ensure the director isnā€™t overloaded.
ā€¢ Chris Carreras was the first assistant director on the set of Dune and
worked closely with Dennis Villneuve, the director of the film.
ā€¢ I Think that assistant directors play a key a role in ensuring that the director
is able to do their work, however I donā€™t think it is a job I would like to do.
Key Grip
ā€¢ the key grip has to be knowledgeable about camera equipment and be able
to handle the logistics that come with being in charge of it. They have to be
able to make decision about what kind of gear to use for the filming.
ā€¢ The key grip works with the whole crew as the decide what equipment is
being used for the shot, they also work very closely with the director as
what the director want can influence was is selected by the key grip.
ā€¢ Ron Cardarelli was a key grip on the set of Jurassic park. He was in charge
of ensuring the right equipment was used I filming.
ā€¢ A key grip is a very important role as they have a lot of influence on what is
used to make the film, which can drastically change the outcome. It is a
role that would be interesting to be in
Task 5
Copyright
-I will be using paid-for royalty free audio in my film that is sourced from epidemic sound, therefore is should not run
into any issues with regards to copyright.
Procedural Codes
-If any medical issues were to arise while shooting a plan will be in place to be able to deal with it.
Privacy and Intrusion
-Iā€™m filming in a private location with permission and with a laid out set. All key details and information that may be
able to give away the actual location of filming will be hidden so there is nothing to worry about.
Product Placement
-I will have a bottle of Coca-Cola in my film for the purpose of having a drink which comes bottled in a glass bottle,
however this is for narrative purposes and there is no association with the company and the brand name doesnā€™t
appear in an obvious manner.
Acknowledgements/Credits
-I will acknowledge and credit everyone who is involved in the making of the film.
Diversity and Inclusion
-There will be no humans in the film with identifiable characteristics. We will not be able to see the characters
face and very few ethnic clues will be available to see.
Industry Codes of Practice
-Industry codes dictate that Iā€™d have to get district permission for the locations I choose to shoot at, however
because I will be shooting at the place that I inhabit, I will therefore not need a release form for the location
but rather only for the actor(s) involved.
Task 6
Concept
-Chest shot of person and the surrounding areas on the walk to main setting, 3 or 4 scenes, 5 seconds each.
the next scene is the person putting the doughnut, which is in a packet, on the counter. He then proceeds to
take a drink out of the fridge and put it on the opposite counter. We then see the doughnut climbing out of its
packet and standing up, it then looks down and realizes it has a hole in it, itā€™s just woken up. It decides to look
for a way to plug the hole, making binoculars with its hands to survey the surroundings, cut to a POV macro
shot that looks around at the area a bit and then spots the hand of the person on the other side of the kitchen,
zoom in, as the hand is opening the bottled drink and then moving away, leaving behind the cap as it falls, slow
motion of the cap landing on the counter. The shot zooms out and moves back through the hole of the
doughnut, emphasizing his purpose. The doughnut starts to make his way to the other side of the kitchen,
encountering obstacles along his way before he is stopped at the heated stove. The doughnut uses string or
something similar and a paper clip from a stack of documents nearby to make a grappling hook which he uses
to get across the room. ā€œParkour, parkourā€. He makes it to the other side as the hook slips, and he almost falls
to the floor. Slow motion speed ramp of the hook slipping and slow motion of the doughnut falling and
catching itself, 3 different shots. The doughnut gets up on the counter and picks up the bottle cap, he pops into
the hole and uses it has a plug, he is filled with joy. He lets off a sigh of relief, when a sudden hand swoops
down and grabs him, as the drink cap falls from its place, slow motion macro drink cap hitting the counter,
again. the next shot is the chest of the person with their arms in frame as they eat the doughnut, screaming in
horror. we watch as crumbs fall and the credits roll.

Secondary Research
Concept- Le lutte des beignets, a French themed comedy film about a doughnut going on an adventure across a kitchen in order to plug his
hole before meeting his untimely demise shortly after completing what he set out to do.
Food in general is a large part of modern life, and as such food also has its fair share of the spotlight in modern humor. It is often a subject in
memes, such as the viral ā€œHocus Pocus thereā€™s pizza on your Focusā€ meme or the ā€œdo you go biking memeā€. We have also seen several full-
length feature films which are largely based around food and comedy as a subject matter over the years, ones of notable success are Disneyā€™s
ā€œRatatouillieā€ released in 2007, Sony Picturesā€™ ā€œCloudy with a chance of meatballsā€ released in 2009, and Columbia Pictures ā€œSausage Partyā€
released in 2016. All these films and memes have food and comedy in common. For my film, I have chosen to use a doughnut as the subject. A
doughnut is traditionally a sweet pastry made from fried dough. This inspired the title of the film, ā€œLe lutte des beignetsā€, which translated
from French to English as, ā€œthe struggle of the pastryā€. Doughnuts are common in society and can be found with relative ease at most bakeries,
supermarkets and even specialty doughnut establishments such as Krispy Kreme. Doughnuts can have a variety of topping such as glazed or
chocolate and can also have a filling. For my production I have opted to use a doughnut with a strawberry topping with a jam filling, giving it a
vibrant and playful feel. Doughnuts can also come in various shapes, the most common one, which I will also be using, is a ring doughnut. My
film is inspired by ā€œLa Nouvelle Vagueā€, what we know as French New Wave. French New Wave is a film style that came to the scene in the late
1950ā€™s. French New Wave films breaks the rules of traditional film making with a different approach to the visual loo of the film, the editing
style and the narrative. My filmā€™s narrative will remain somewhat traditional as it consists of three main parts, a beginning setting the film up, a
middle presenting a challenge for our hero to overcome but an ending that goes against the norms with a twist of fate for our doughnut.
Task 9
Evaluation of Concept
Some of the strengths of the film include it having only one actor appearing for minimally compared to the
main character doughnut. Having the main character of the film being played by an inanimate object also gets
rid of any weakness brought on with an actor as it allows precise control over the movements and actions of
the character whilst filming takes place. The film will be predominately shot in a single area of a kitchen which
gets rid of any travel continuity issues that we might have, were we switching locations frequently. The film
should also be very practical to make, as it would mostly consist of stand-alone shots as our doughnut traverses
the landscape. There may be issues on set of the doughnut getting damaged whilst shooting some of the
practical stunts with the doughnut (e.g., parkour swing across the room) In order to avoid this, we will have
more than one doughnut to play the part of the main character. There will also be some postproduction effects
added in After Effects. There arenā€™t any potential areas for offense, so this is something not to worry about. In
total there is only 1 actor playing the unnamed chest, several doughnuts playing the main doughnut and 1
location in a private home that will be signed off on a release form.

Task 11
Financing - Private investment
Private Investment
Definition Private investment refers to when funding is provided by private investors and entities such as companies or people.
Advantage(s) A private investment does not require a payback as they are part of the project and will normally get either a cut of
the profits.
Disadvantage(s) You will have to split the profits among the investors as well as yourself. You also tend to give up some creative
freedom as investors may want to have input on the film in exchange for them putting money into the project.
Financing - Studio funding
Studio funding
Definition Studio funding refers to the film being funded by the studio developing the film.
Advantage(s) You donā€™t have to spend any of your own personal money on the film and get paid by the studio to develop it.
Disadvantage(s) All the proceedings from the film will go to the studio that funded it and they will have a large amount of influence
over how the film is made.
Financing - Pre-sales and co-productions
Pre-sales and co-productions
Definition Pre-sales and co productions refer to the rights for the films distribution being agreed upon sold before the actual film
is completed.
Advantage(s) Pre sales allow a large amount of funding to be earned before the production of the film even starts with no worry
about having to pay it back but rather about producing a high quality product.
Disadvantage(s) A bad agreement can mean you lose out on more potential money, however there arenā€™t many disadvantages and this
isnā€™t bery likely to happen.
Financing - Product placement
Product placement
Definition Product placement refers to companies paying to have their product placed in the film as a form of advertising for the
company.
Advantage(s) It allows you to earn funding for your film through a relatively simple means with no risk.
Disadvantage(s) Too much product placement or product placement done badly can have a negative impact on the film as viewers
may develop negative feelings towards the film.
Financing - National/regional/local film funds
National/regional/local film funds
Definition This refers to funding that comes from a particular country, region or locality.
Advantage(s) This is a somewhat easy way to get funding that doesnā€™t rely heavily on meeting certain requirements.
Disadvantage(s) Funding isnā€™t guaranteed and may not always be available.
Financing - Crowdfunding
Crowdfunding
Definition Crowdfunding refers to funding that is sourced through large groups of people, normally fans. Crowdfunding normally
goes through crowdfunding organisations such as GoFundMe.
Advantage(s) Crowdfunding is a relatively easy way to get funding compared to loans or private investors and means
Disadvantage(s) It could take a lot of time before the amount of money required is reached.
Financing
Best Source of Finance For Your Project Private Investment
Why
The best option for funding with regards to my project would be private investment as this allows me to work with people that maintain a
professional standard and also spreads the risk of the film over better. Private investment also means that I will have a guaranteed amount of
money to work with before I start production on the project, and although some creative freedom be lost, for the most part the film will still as
planned.

Task 15
MARKETING PLAN
Unit 07. & 34.
Distribution - ā€˜Straight-to-video/DVDā€™
ā€˜Straight-to-video/DVDā€™
Definition When a film goes straight to DVD as opposed to premiering in a cinema.
Advantage(s) No need to pay cinemas to screen your film.
Disadvantage(s) Films released straight to DVD are normally considered of a lesser quality. Films
donā€™t qualify for exceptional awards like Oscars.
How could I use this
concept?
I could release my film straight to DVD.
Distribution ā€“ Online Streaming/Streaming
Networks
Online Streaming/Streaming Networks
Definition The live transmission of video and audio directly to
peoples devices allowing them to watch what they want on
demand.
Advantage(s) Costs significantly less to distribute than other means,
sometimes free depending on the platform. Reaches larger
audiences depending on streaming platform.
Disadvantage(s) Lack of viewer ownership of films. Less profits off the film.
Less reach depending on the platform due to a paywall.
How could I use this
concept?
I could release my film on an online streaming platform.
Distribution ā€“ Cinema Distribution
Cinema Distribution
Definition Releasing a film in cinemas.
Advantage(s) Films will likely make a higher profit upon box office
release. Films qualify for awards such as the Oscars.
Disadvantage(s) Can be more costly to have films put in cinemas.
How could I use this concept? I could release my film in cinemas.
Distribution ā€“ Television Distribution
Television Distribution
Definition Films being distributed to be viewed on
television.
Advantage(s) Large audience to view the film.
Disadvantage(s) Films released directly to television are
usually considered of a lesser quality.
Television slots can be costly.
How could I use this concept? I could release my film on television.
Distribution - Evaluation
In order to distribute my film I will be using an online
streaming platform. I will upload my film to YouTube to
be distributed as my particular target audience
predominately uses streaming platforms and YouTube
allows for large audiences to view the film for free.
Online streaming would also be better as opposed to
the likes of TV or DVD as it is free to upload to,
meaning I cut out distribution costs by opting to
upload to YouTube rather than by having the film
shown on TV or put onto DVDā€™s to then be
distributed. Online streaming is also easier all around
for viewers to access in order to view the film.
Marketing - Key Art Design
Key Art Design (posters, trailers etc)
Definition Key art design refers to the entire visual identity of the
marketing of the film. This looks at the fonts, images and
colour palates among other details.
Advantage(s) Allows you to develop an identity for the film through art
design.
Disadvantage(s) Changes to the film made after releasing key art design can
lead to confusion and frustration among viewers.
How could I use this
concept?
I can keep a common theme throughout the art design of
the films marketing material, using matching fonts and colour
schemes to keep everything uniform.
Marketing ā€“ Press Packs
Press Packs
Definition A pre-packaged set of promotional material given out to the
press to be used in their media.
Advantage(s) Consistent images for the press to use in their media
creation.
Disadvantage(s) You become reliant on the reviews made by the press.
How could I use this
concept?
I can put together a press pack for the press to use when
writing about my film.
Marketing ā€“ Social Media Promotion
Social Media Promotion
Definition Using social media platforms such as Facebook and
Instagram to promote your film.
Advantage(s) Social media has extremely large reach.
Disadvantage(s) Users can spam and tarnish the image of your film out of
spite.
How could I use this concept? I could put together social media accounts to promote the
film on.
Marketing - Blogging
Blogging
Definition Regularly uploading new information to a website.
Advantage(s) Allows you to have a single place for all the information
people need about the film.
Disadvantage(s) Very few people read blogs in the modern day.
How could I use this concept? I can start a website and regularly blog about the film on
it.
Marketing - Websites
Websites
Definition A domain online where information can be uploaded and
seen.
Advantage(s) A single place where all the useful information for your film
can be uploaded.
Disadvantage(s) You could be creatively limited as to what you put on the
website depending on other entities involved.
How could I use this concept? I could create a website to upload all necessary information
about the website.
Marketing - Networking events with
award/academy members
Networking events with award/academy members
Definition An event where like minded individuals come together to
exchange information and contact details in order to meet
new people and create mutually beneficial relationships.
Advantage(s) You are able to meet like minded individuals and get
contacts that would be able to help you.
Disadvantage(s) You have to be diplomatic to networkers and people where
it may not be warranted.
How could I use this concept? I could attend a networking event.
Marketing - Evaluation
The best marketing option in my opinion would have
to be social media marketing, and this is what I would
be most likely to use when marketing my film. Social
media marketing can be extremely effective if done
correctly, allowing you to reach up to millions of
people that are already on the platform. Social media
marketing is also free as there is no real need to
spend money on sponsoring the promotional material if
itā€™s done properly.
Exhibition ā€“ Test Screenings
Test Screenings
Definition A screening of a movie that takes place before the full
release in order to get an idea of how an audience would
react to it.
Advantage(s) A test screening allows you to get an idea of how an
audience might react to your film before you release it.
Disadvantage(s) A bad audience reaction could mean that you have to
change parts of the film.
How could I use this concept? I could hold a test screening in order to get an idea of
how people might react to the film.
Exhibition ā€“ Press Screenings
Press Screenings
Definition A press screening is a pre-release screening of a film for
critics and press only, allowing them to write about the film
and review it before its release.
Advantage(s) Press screenings can get more attention as the press share
their reviews and opinions on the film before itā€™s release.
Disadvantage(s) Critics can write bad reviews which can lead to less public
interest.
How could I use this concept? I could hold a press screening to allow the press to review
my film and write about it before its release.
Exhibition ā€“ Film Festivals
Film Festivals
Definition An organised presentation which showcases various films.
Advantage(s) Film festivals can draw attention to your film if it is being
screened and it allows more people to see it.
Disadvantage(s) Bad reaction can lead to issues with the distribution of the
film.
How could I use this concept? I could arrange to have my film showcased at a film
festival.
Exhibition - Evaluation
The best option for exhibition, and the one that I
would use, would be test screenings. Test screenings
allow you to see how an audience would react to the
film without the worry about critics leaving bad reviews
if it isnā€™t up to scratch, something that can be an
issue when using press screenings. Test screening also
give you the opportunity to make any changes to the
film after the screening based on audience reaction.

  • 3. Continuity ā€¢ Continuity refers to the unbroken and consistent use of detail in films. It is ensuring that all details match and line up from scene to scene and that nothing moves out of place. Continuity is important for ensuring that the objects in the film appear to stay where they are and that everything fits in place without any noticeable or unnecessary changes. Continuity errors can result in obvious on screen mistakes that draw attention away from what the subject of the fil is.
  • 4.
  • 5. Lighting tests ā€¢ Lighting tests are when people of a similar stature and skin tone stand in place of actors in order to test what the lighting will look like before filming on the scene starts. Lighting tests ensure that there are no lighting errors when filming takes place and are also used to work out what the bet look lighting for the scene would be, all without having to wait the time of the actor in question.
  • 6.
  • 7. Storyboarding/Narrative ā€¢ Storyboarding is when a sequence of images are produced that represent how each scene will be laid out, how the lighting of the scene will be laid out and where the actors would be. Storyboarding is beneficial as it allows creators and filmmakers to visually set out the film and get an idea of what everything will look like before filming and productions starts.
  • 8.
  • 9. Shot testing ā€¢ Shot testing refers to testing out shots that are wanted in the film without actors but rather with place holders of a similar stature and skin tone and normally not on set either, they would usually opt to use simple place holders in order to see if the shot in question is achievable and within reach. Shot testing is also used in order to establish what settings would be best to use in a full scene.
  • 10.
  • 11. Shot Composition ā€¢ Shot composition is used to establish what exactly the final filmed shot will look like. Shot composition also refers t the various elemtns within the scene, such as lighting, make up and various other items that would be seen on screen.
  • 12.
  • 14. ISO ISO 100 ISO 200 ISO 400 ISO 800 ISO 1600 ISO 3200 Exposure and F-Stop Constant
  • 15. Exposure Exposure Time 1/5 sec ISO and F-Stop Constant Exposure Time 1/25 sec Exposure Time 1/50 sec Exposure Time 1/100 sec
  • 16. Exposure Exposure can be defined as the amount of time that a cameras shutter is allowed to be open in order to capture The light and take the photo. A higher exposure such as 1/100, meaning the shutter is open for 1 100th of a second, lets less light in, where as a lower exposure such as 1/5, meaning that the shutter is open for 1 5th of a second, lets More light in. This can be seen on the previous slide where a higher exposure resulted in a darker photo of the car and a lower exposure resulted in a much brighter photo of the car. A lower exposure can also lead to blur if the camera or subject moves while the shot is being taken.
  • 17. Focal Length 18mm 50mm 105mm 155mm 300mm Here we can see how focal length effects a shot. Using different focal lengths whilst moving the camera around to keep the subject in the same position, we can see how the background and foreground of the subject get blurrier as the focal length increases.
  • 18. ā€œDriveā€ movie poster recreation. Picture taken using a canon DSLR, aided with lights and a blank white background, then edited and put together in photoshop. The image for the poster was taken on a canon 600D using an 18-55mm lens. Lighting was done using 2x Soonwell MT1 RGBW LED Video Light Tube
  • 19. Lighting High Key Low Key VS White light was done using an Ianiro VISIO DMX Dimmer light. Coloured lighting was done using Soonwell MT1 RGBW LED Video Light Tube
  • 20. A wide-angle landscape shot with a deep focal depth showing the setting where everything takes place A low-light external shot introducing our main character as they make their way to the main setting. A daytime external shot of our main character coming up a staircase, showing the front of our main character for the first time. A long zoom image giving us a decent look at our main character as he reaches the top of the staircase. All of the shots were taken using a canon 600D fitted with an 18-55mm lens
  • 21. A high-key shot of our main character entering the building. A shot of a closed store, the place our character was headed to, putting a problem in his way. A shot of a vending machine, a solution to the troubles of our main character. A shot of our character reaching for the machine. All of the shots were taken using a canon 600D fitted with an 18-55mm lens
  • 22. A shot of our character grabbing the drink theyā€™ve ordered from the vending machine. A shot of our character reaching their final destination. A shallow depth of field shot of our character opening the drink theyā€™ve bought. A low key close-up shot of our character realizing that theyā€™ve bought the wrong drink. All of the shots were taken using a canon 600D fitted with an 18-55mm lens
  • 24. Director ā€¢ Directors need to be able to mediate the creative differences on set to make sure what's being made is the best outcome. ā€¢ The director works closely with the producer and scriptwriter. As the producer needs to give notes on production and the screenwriter give notes on the script. ā€¢ The film's director is responsible for visualising the script or screenplay, whilst guiding the film crew and actors to fulfil the vision. ā€¢ Some directors often write their own screenplays and direct them. This is because they know what they are trying to visualize and therefore there is no room for anything to be lost in translation from script to screen. ā€¢ Christopher Nolan is a well-known director who now owns his own production company. His movies are known for their large practical effects and often stories that make you think. ā€¢ I believe directors are possibly
  • 25. Camera Operator ā€¢ Camera operators need to know how to get the desired shot and require a steady hand to do so. They also have to be knowledgeable about different shooting styles and techniques and know how to use and operate the camera. ā€¢ Camera operators work on set and primarily work with directors and assistants, who direct them on what shot to get, and cinematographers who set everything up to get the shot. ā€¢ The camera operators responsibility is to get the shot that director wants. ā€¢ Rodrigo Prieto was one of five camera operators on the set of The Wolf of Wall Street. He was responsible for ensuring that they got the right shots they needed for the film when in control of the camera. ā€¢ I think camera operators play one of the most important roles on the film set and it is a role that I take a liking towards.
  • 26. 1st Assistant Director/ 2nd Assistant Director ā€¢ Assistant directors are there to help the directors, they need to be able to think fast and work fast. They cater to the creative needs of the director who delegates to them to ensure everything runs smoothly. ā€¢ Assistant directors work primarily with the director of the film. ā€¢ The responsibility of assistant directors on set is to aid the director in whatever way they need in order to ensure the director isnā€™t overloaded. ā€¢ Chris Carreras was the first assistant director on the set of Dune and worked closely with Dennis Villneuve, the director of the film. ā€¢ I Think that assistant directors play a key a role in ensuring that the director is able to do their work, however I donā€™t think it is a job I would like to do.
  • 27. Key Grip ā€¢ the key grip has to be knowledgeable about camera equipment and be able to handle the logistics that come with being in charge of it. They have to be able to make decision about what kind of gear to use for the filming. ā€¢ The key grip works with the whole crew as the decide what equipment is being used for the shot, they also work very closely with the director as what the director want can influence was is selected by the key grip. ā€¢ Ron Cardarelli was a key grip on the set of Jurassic park. He was in charge of ensuring the right equipment was used I filming. ā€¢ A key grip is a very important role as they have a lot of influence on what is used to make the film, which can drastically change the outcome. It is a role that would be interesting to be in
  • 29. Copyright -I will be using paid-for royalty free audio in my film that is sourced from epidemic sound, therefore is should not run into any issues with regards to copyright. Procedural Codes -If any medical issues were to arise while shooting a plan will be in place to be able to deal with it. Privacy and Intrusion -Iā€™m filming in a private location with permission and with a laid out set. All key details and information that may be able to give away the actual location of filming will be hidden so there is nothing to worry about. Product Placement -I will have a bottle of Coca-Cola in my film for the purpose of having a drink which comes bottled in a glass bottle, however this is for narrative purposes and there is no association with the company and the brand name doesnā€™t appear in an obvious manner.
  • 30. Acknowledgements/Credits -I will acknowledge and credit everyone who is involved in the making of the film. Diversity and Inclusion -There will be no humans in the film with identifiable characteristics. We will not be able to see the characters face and very few ethnic clues will be available to see. Industry Codes of Practice -Industry codes dictate that Iā€™d have to get district permission for the locations I choose to shoot at, however because I will be shooting at the place that I inhabit, I will therefore not need a release form for the location but rather only for the actor(s) involved.
  • 32. Concept -Chest shot of person and the surrounding areas on the walk to main setting, 3 or 4 scenes, 5 seconds each. the next scene is the person putting the doughnut, which is in a packet, on the counter. He then proceeds to take a drink out of the fridge and put it on the opposite counter. We then see the doughnut climbing out of its packet and standing up, it then looks down and realizes it has a hole in it, itā€™s just woken up. It decides to look for a way to plug the hole, making binoculars with its hands to survey the surroundings, cut to a POV macro shot that looks around at the area a bit and then spots the hand of the person on the other side of the kitchen, zoom in, as the hand is opening the bottled drink and then moving away, leaving behind the cap as it falls, slow motion of the cap landing on the counter. The shot zooms out and moves back through the hole of the doughnut, emphasizing his purpose. The doughnut starts to make his way to the other side of the kitchen, encountering obstacles along his way before he is stopped at the heated stove. The doughnut uses string or something similar and a paper clip from a stack of documents nearby to make a grappling hook which he uses to get across the room. ā€œParkour, parkourā€. He makes it to the other side as the hook slips, and he almost falls to the floor. Slow motion speed ramp of the hook slipping and slow motion of the doughnut falling and catching itself, 3 different shots. The doughnut gets up on the counter and picks up the bottle cap, he pops into the hole and uses it has a plug, he is filled with joy. He lets off a sigh of relief, when a sudden hand swoops down and grabs him, as the drink cap falls from its place, slow motion macro drink cap hitting the counter, again. the next shot is the chest of the person with their arms in frame as they eat the doughnut, screaming in horror. we watch as crumbs fall and the credits roll.

  • 39. Secondary Research Concept- Le lutte des beignets, a French themed comedy film about a doughnut going on an adventure across a kitchen in order to plug his hole before meeting his untimely demise shortly after completing what he set out to do. Food in general is a large part of modern life, and as such food also has its fair share of the spotlight in modern humor. It is often a subject in memes, such as the viral ā€œHocus Pocus thereā€™s pizza on your Focusā€ meme or the ā€œdo you go biking memeā€. We have also seen several full- length feature films which are largely based around food and comedy as a subject matter over the years, ones of notable success are Disneyā€™s ā€œRatatouillieā€ released in 2007, Sony Picturesā€™ ā€œCloudy with a chance of meatballsā€ released in 2009, and Columbia Pictures ā€œSausage Partyā€ released in 2016. All these films and memes have food and comedy in common. For my film, I have chosen to use a doughnut as the subject. A doughnut is traditionally a sweet pastry made from fried dough. This inspired the title of the film, ā€œLe lutte des beignetsā€, which translated from French to English as, ā€œthe struggle of the pastryā€. Doughnuts are common in society and can be found with relative ease at most bakeries, supermarkets and even specialty doughnut establishments such as Krispy Kreme. Doughnuts can have a variety of topping such as glazed or chocolate and can also have a filling. For my production I have opted to use a doughnut with a strawberry topping with a jam filling, giving it a vibrant and playful feel. Doughnuts can also come in various shapes, the most common one, which I will also be using, is a ring doughnut. My film is inspired by ā€œLa Nouvelle Vagueā€, what we know as French New Wave. French New Wave is a film style that came to the scene in the late 1950ā€™s. French New Wave films breaks the rules of traditional film making with a different approach to the visual loo of the film, the editing style and the narrative. My filmā€™s narrative will remain somewhat traditional as it consists of three main parts, a beginning setting the film up, a middle presenting a challenge for our hero to overcome but an ending that goes against the norms with a twist of fate for our doughnut.
  • 41. Evaluation of Concept Some of the strengths of the film include it having only one actor appearing for minimally compared to the main character doughnut. Having the main character of the film being played by an inanimate object also gets rid of any weakness brought on with an actor as it allows precise control over the movements and actions of the character whilst filming takes place. The film will be predominately shot in a single area of a kitchen which gets rid of any travel continuity issues that we might have, were we switching locations frequently. The film should also be very practical to make, as it would mostly consist of stand-alone shots as our doughnut traverses the landscape. There may be issues on set of the doughnut getting damaged whilst shooting some of the practical stunts with the doughnut (e.g., parkour swing across the room) In order to avoid this, we will have more than one doughnut to play the part of the main character. There will also be some postproduction effects added in After Effects. There arenā€™t any potential areas for offense, so this is something not to worry about. In total there is only 1 actor playing the unnamed chest, several doughnuts playing the main doughnut and 1 location in a private home that will be signed off on a release form.
  • 43. Date Workflow Activity To be completed by this date Production Logs 21/03/22 Filming Film all the scenes for the film as well as any extras to ensure a fair amount of choice in the editing process. All the filming should be completed, about 30 minutes of footage in total to allow for selection and options in the editing process. The filming is being reflected in the production log. 28/03/22 Editing Put together a rush cut of the film with all usable footage. A full length rush cut of about 10 minutes should be put together. • 54. Financing - Private investment Private Investment Definition Private investment refers to when funding is provided by private investors and entities such as companies or people. Advantage(s) A private investment does not require a payback as they are part of the project and will normally get either a cut of the profits. Disadvantage(s) You will have to split the profits among the investors as well as yourself. You also tend to give up some creative freedom as investors may want to have input on the film in exchange for them putting money into the project.
  • 55. Financing - Studio funding Studio funding Definition Studio funding refers to the film being funded by the studio developing the film. Advantage(s) You donā€™t have to spend any of your own personal money on the film and get paid by the studio to develop it. Disadvantage(s) All the proceedings from the film will go to the studio that funded it and they will have a large amount of influence over how the film is made.
  • 56. Financing - Pre-sales and co-productions Pre-sales and co-productions Definition Pre-sales and co productions refer to the rights for the films distribution being agreed upon sold before the actual film is completed. Advantage(s) Pre sales allow a large amount of funding to be earned before the production of the film even starts with no worry about having to pay it back but rather about producing a high quality product. Disadvantage(s) A bad agreement can mean you lose out on more potential money, however there arenā€™t many disadvantages and this isnā€™t bery likely to happen.
  • 57. Financing - Product placement Product placement Definition Product placement refers to companies paying to have their product placed in the film as a form of advertising for the company. Advantage(s) It allows you to earn funding for your film through a relatively simple means with no risk. Disadvantage(s) Too much product placement or product placement done badly can have a negative impact on the film as viewers may develop negative feelings towards the film.
  • 58. Financing - National/regional/local film funds National/regional/local film funds Definition This refers to funding that comes from a particular country, region or locality. Advantage(s) This is a somewhat easy way to get funding that doesnā€™t rely heavily on meeting certain requirements. Disadvantage(s) Funding isnā€™t guaranteed and may not always be available.
  • 59. Financing - Crowdfunding Crowdfunding Definition Crowdfunding refers to funding that is sourced through large groups of people, normally fans. Crowdfunding normally goes through crowdfunding organisations such as GoFundMe. Advantage(s) Crowdfunding is a relatively easy way to get funding compared to loans or private investors and means Disadvantage(s) It could take a lot of time before the amount of money required is reached.
  • 60. Financing Best Source of Finance For Your Project Private Investment Why The best option for funding with regards to my project would be private investment as this allows me to work with people that maintain a professional standard and also spreads the risk of the film over better. Private investment also means that I will have a guaranteed amount of money to work with before I start production on the project, and although some creative freedom be lost, for the most part the film will still as planned.
