What is a question tag?
- A question tag is a short question at the end of a
statement
- Creates a question that expects a yes or no answer.
- A yes or no question. Generally used for confirmation or
an agreement

There are two types of question tags, a positive and a
negative
- A positive statement is followed by a negative question
tag
e.g. You said you are sick, didn’t you?
He was crying, wasn’t he?
It is raining outside, isn’t it?
An exception is made in the case of I Am ...to Aren’t I?

- A negative statement is followed by a positive question
tag
e.g. you are not mad, are you?
he is not/isn’t going to school, is he?
they did submit their task, didn’t they?

Intonation refers to the rising or falling of voice when
asking the question
e.g. you are coming to my party, aren’t you?
High voice – means you are not sure and want to know.
Low voice - means you are confirming, or might be a way
to start a conversation)
6. Question Tags
In the case of verbs that are not auxiliary or modal what do we do?
e.g. you study medicine, don’t you?
He sells Herbalife , doesn’t he?
If the verb is in past tense, the key question is didn’t
If the verb is in present tense, we use don’t
